Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
Sometimes when I enter certain places (eg mages guild in leyawiin or fighters guild somewhere else) my controls become erratic - significant mouse delay, jerking, stop-start movements etc. It disappears when I leave the place - but reappears when I re-enter it again. This has only happened today and Ive been playing for a few days now. But its happened a few times already, despite me rebooting my system. It seems that certain areas are being inadequately loaded.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

New batteries in keyboard/controller? Keyboard/mouse not plugged in all the way?

I gotta agree with above, it is most likely a mod if it isnt something to do with a change in keyboard/mouse/controller. If you have a wireless keyboard try moving the little "wireless receiver" thing closer to the keyboard, ik if mine gets too far away from the keyboard itll spaz out : /

What type of Video/Graphics Card do you have?
I have this problem, and it is usually the Indoor Area's, specifically in Leyawiin, the multi story buildings, like the Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Blackwood Company. It is fine in the other Leyawinn buildings, and doesn't have issues in other cities.
It is due to the fact that I have an Integrated Graphics Card on my Company Laptop. Since it sounds like a similar problem to what I have, I would think it is most likely something with your card.
Something about those specific Buildings in Leyawiin, causes huge frame rate drops. I have not figured out what it is though. I deal with it, since I travel so much, and I do not feel like taking 2 laptops thru airport security. I used to do that, but it can be a pain.

Re: Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
I have a question: if this problem happens in a certain place, when you reboot will it happen again in the same place? (For trying, I'd suggest to exit the area, save, reboot, re-enter the area)
If you have a joypad, slightly moving the lever may cause problems similar to what you described.

Re: Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
When quests or scripts update, it produces that side effect, its perfectly normally but it should end after a few seconds.
UNLESS....
You followed the advice of the idiots that tell people to clean mods, patch it or mess with a mod that they lack the skill to understand let alone make, in which case anything might happen. It may be eating away at your saved game right now and corrupting it for good and at some point in the future your suddenly going to get CTDs when you try and load it.
Anyway, the point is, if its a mod, it should end after while, if you cleaned the mod or somebody else did or modified it either using bash patches, other patches or what ever, delete it right away, revert to an older save from before you installed that mod and delete all saves made with it.
Then you should be fine.
Hope it all works out for you mate... good luck

For rakesh73's Problem, it could indeed be Mod related.
For myself, I would tend to not believe that it is mod related. I have the same mods on my home laptop (2 actually), and I do not have this "slowing/Lag" issue in thsoe specific Leyawiin Houses.
- I do have the "Mazoga the Orc Mod - KotWS", which adds a Layawiin Blackwood Company House, as a replacement for the KotWS shack. I get "Lag" in there as well.
- I also have the "Imperial City House" Mod, which uses an IC House, which works fine, but has the Blackwood Company basement as a training hall, with associated creatures for doing training on. I have no "Lag" in the IC part of the house, I do have "Lag" in the basement.
1) I have removed these mods, from a clean delete, and reinstall of just Oblivion, and still have the same issue. Without any Mods.
2) I have the same mods installed on 3 computers, and I only have this issue on the one that has an Integrated Graphics Card. It is my Company Work Computer, and Is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-52, as we work for the Military, and do a lot of work outside, and in/around combat vehicles.

The only additional "lag" I have, is with 3 or more deer, or 4 or more enemy (during a fight) in the same cell. As I kill deer, or enemy, the lag goes away.
I do not get "Lag" when I go to a Tavern, and there are 5 NPC in there.
This has also lead me to believe that it is also Audio Related (due to the hove sounds, and combat sounds), as well as the Graphics issue. If you have Integrated Video, then you most likely have Integrated Audio too.

In that case I would look towards corrupt install files, mostly faulty bsa files or a fragged hard drive causing delays in loading times for specific data.
PS Just a quick reminder this is the mod forum mate, if you post here everybody is going to believe your using mods.

Sorry I had put it in the general oblivion forum but it was moved to this one! Is there a separate forum for technical advice - as opposed to gameplay advice?

I might have a soultion, but I need you to tell me if you're on a laptop or not, and if so, if you're using an attached mouse.
Re: Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
laptop, with an attached mouse (ie plugged into laptop). remember, it is only certain areas - the mages guild in lleyawiin, fighters guild in leyawiin and bruma so far.

Re: Erratic controls in certain indoor areas
Okay. I usually play on a laptop as well, and I've found that mouse controls depend on how close the mouse is to the laptop. I don't know why.
Try moving the mouse further from the computer and adjusting the mouse sensitivity controls in the options menu.
