Re: When Skyrim comes out...
I won't play it for sometime after Skyrim comes out. I will still play it at some point in the future..
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
I highly doubt I will continue playing Oblivion after I achieve a few things...
1: Save $ for a new PC that can play Skyrim on max settings along with the other amazing PC games coming out.
2: Wait for a Skyrim GOTY edition with included DLC and read various reviews on the game.
3: Let the modding community fix the bugs Bethesda couldn't be bothered to look at no matter how obvious they were.
4: Someone mods a good GUN into the game!
I only bought Oblivion because I was so impressed with Skyrim and I wanted to test out a TES game.
And the fact that I was able to get the GOTY edition for my PS3 for a mere $12.
Despite its many flaws and shortcomings it has been an overall enjoyable experience.
I just hope Skyrim lives up to the hype its generating.

Of course I`ll go back to it, it`s without doubt the best game I`ve played imo, and I think people have been slightly harsh. Yes it`s buggy, and sometimes annoying, but it`s also a brilliant experience. If Skyrim is at least as good, i won`t revisit Oblivion for a couple of years.

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
The harshness is directed at Bethesda (not Oblivion) for releasing such a profoundly flawed game, which they could have easily fixed by locking a pair of programmers in a room for a weekend and supplying them with Red Bull, potato chips, and cigarettes. They haven't earned my money for Skyrim. Yet.JJKG wrote:Of course I`ll go back to it, it`s without doubt the best game I`ve played imo, and I think people have been slightly harsh. As buggy as the game is, I really enjoy it. If Bethesda had actually given a damn of professionalism, Oblivion could have been so much more.

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
Just imagine, if Bethesda spent years perfecting Oblivion we might still be waiting for Skyrim 5 years from now.
I have the feeling that these games could just keep growing and growing given unlimited time and money. That's the nature of the Elder Scrolls. In the same way, your journey with the games never really ends, even when newer, flashier ones come out.
Heck, Morrowind is still a great game today, and with MGSO it is better than a lot of new ones. Mods will mean the same for Oblivion too, although I don't see it rivalling Skyrim's new engines.
17. Oblivion had a long development time, but as George Lucas said in regards to movies, “Movies are never finished, they are just abandoned”. What are some things you wish you could have put in Oblivion? What are some things that you are very glad to be able to put in?
On the PC, a small font option would top my list. And the Elder Council stuff I mentioned before. I think the differences in Colovia West vs the Nibenay East are far too subtle. A thousand other things as well, but at some point you have to step back and say “ok, the game does enough stuff” and finish it.

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
Evil-i, not that the number of bugs and issues in the game are really any excuse, but there are patches to correct most of them, and it IS rather difficult anticipating some of the silly things that can crop up in an open world game where the player can approach things from so many different angles. I suppose they did a slightly better job in that vein with Fallout, but there's still an astonishing number of little issues with Fallout as well. Most of them stem from "if you do this during the quest" or "if you have so-and-so with you during the quest" or "if you do this before that..." Sloppy programming? Quite possibly, but that's why the designers aren't programmers.

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
The sort of thing I'm talking about is the ABomb bug, or conflicting quests that can permanently hamstring a gamer's character. Stuff like that should never make it to market, and if it does, the company should fix it, instead of making excuses.
And you can't tell me that a software producer hires designers only, and operates without programmers.

Agreed. Really the reason I play Oblivion over Morrowind is for the gaphics and smotther gameplay so Skyrim will be replacing Oblivion for me in a way. I will prabably still play Morrowind from time to time.beny15 wrote:I don't think i'll be playing Oblivion all that much. Re: When Skyrim comes out...
Well, I finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago and now have a 64-bit PC capable (hopefully) of playing Skyrim at maxed out details...
Make: HP Pavilion P6769UK
Power Supply Unit (PSU): 300W
Motherboard: Pegatron 2AB6 (never heard of it, but it's a nice base to start from until I upgrade)
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz (quad-core Hyperthreaded, i.e. 4 cores running 2 threads each, meaning it's 8 virtual cores)
RAM: 4Gb PC10600 DDR @ 1333MHz
Video: Intel HD 2000 Graphics
Sound: Integrated IDT HD Audio (7.1 surround)
Hard Disk: 1Tb SATA 3.0 (plus the two SATA 1.0 drives from my old system, 120Gb and 500Gb)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with SP1
I don't normally go for manufacturer's pre-built PC's, but it was a nice base to start upgrading from, and a steal at only £460 (recently discontinued so knocked down from £650). I've already done a few key upgrades. 4Gb extra RAM bringing the total to 8Gb, a 1Gb Gainward Geforce GTX 560 video card (DirectX 11, 336 Cuda cores, PhysX), and a 700W OCZ StealthXStream 2 PSU (four +12V rails @ 18A each, well capable of supporting the GTX 560 on a separate rail with power to spare).
I just bought the GTX 560 yesterday. What a beast! It runs the Crysis Demo maxed out in DirectX 10 mode at 40fps+, and Far Cry 2 maxed out in DirectX 10 mode at a SOLID 60fps (Vsync-locked to my 32" LCD TV's refresh rate of 60fps). I've been running the DirectX 11 tesselation demos, and they're amazing! I had a LOT of laughs today at nVidia's Supersonic Sled demo... Poor Barney!
Btw, I'm now running Oblivion maxed out with Qarl's Texture Pack 3, ALL of the Unique Landscape mods and Really Almost Everything Visible When Distant (RAEVWD) and it's still managing a good 30~40fps outdoors. Considering I used to run without these framerate killing mods at about 10~20fps average, it's a massive improvement! Oblivion only uses a single core but, due to Hyperthreading enabling 2 threads running simultaneously per core, it's effectively running at near dual-core performance. Stuttering is now almost non-existent. I can run all over Cyrodiil with barely even a split-second hitch in the framerate as new areas load. Background loading is obviously benefitting greatly from Hyperthreading.
The integrated sound doesn't slow things down because sound processing is done via one of the 6 virtual cores going spare. Windows 7 utilising unused virtual cores in the background is a major performance improvement in ALL games. This is why I chose Intel i7.
Tip: If you have Hyperthreading on at least dual-core, try the following settings in Oblivion.ini, which seem to enable near seamless streaming on my new PC...Anyway, I'm now ready for Skyrim, although I'll probably hold off after its release until the dust settles and I hear GOOD reports about its stability. Bethesda have taken enough years off my life spent trying to get Oblivion working stably. If it hadn't been for my shelving it for over 2 years until I upgraded to an SM3.0 video card (which incidentally allowed time for the modding community to develop ways to patch it), I'd have binned it.
I'm very wary about newly released games, as developers seem to think we users are their Gamma testers. Alpha = in-house testing by developers only. Beta = pre-release playtesting and bug-reporting by selected users. Gamma = get it out the door to make big profits and leave post-release playtesting and bug reporting to users who aren't happy spending their money on a bug-infested game. They MIGHT patch it if you scream loud enough, but scream early because they'll cease support within a year or so anyway.

I don't think I ever will play it again, it just won't feel the same, its not that I don't like Oblivion but its like a choc bar if I have a choise of a small one or a big one with nuts, it doesn't mean the small one is bad its just not as good as the big one with nuts lol!
Also to be honest Oblivion sometimes really anoys me with its leval scaling problem...But I'm still playing now through, when Skyrim comes I shall shelf Oblivion.

Yes! I have yet to finish the main quest, the fighters guild and thieves guild quests, and the Knights of Nine expansion, even thought I've owned the game for 2 years (all I do is replay the DB, Mages Guild and Shivering Isles questlines... too much fun
)
Although I'll be immersed in Skyrim for a while, I'll still go back to Oblivion and Morrowind, definitely.

Probably not. I've done pretty much everything there is to do in both Morrowind and Oblivion (some of them years ago, like both Fighter's Guild questlines, but I digress) and now all I want to do is fully immerse myself into the world of Skyrim.

Re: When Skyrim comes out...
First of all, Eminem FTW. And second, I dont even play that much now, just on special occasions. I have played that game wayyyy too much. I have like 5 characters with everything beaten, with all skills at 100.Thegreatkirlee wrote:...will you still be playing on oblivion?
I'm just wondering if there's anybody else who'll still be (religiously) playing Oblivion when Skyrim comes out. I'm pretty sure that I'll still have unfinished business on Oblivion, and I figure that I may as well keep playing Oblivion instead of Skyrim (while waiting for the price to come down) seeing as I'm sure that I'll find it very difficult to pick up Oblivion again after playing Skyrim.
Anyone else?
P.S. I'm sorry if this is meant for the Skyrim Forums, I wasn't sure, and feel free to move it if you think it's in the wrong forum.

I'll definitely still play oblivion, just like i still play daggerfall and morrowind. I will be first in line to get skyrim, and if you're gonna complain about oblivion's glitches and bugs you've obviously never tried playing daggerfall. Yeah, at first it was pretty glitchy but just imagine how bad it must've been before they passed it through the QA department. The only game I've ever actually put down (momentarily) because of bugs was Fallout New Vegas, and that's thanks to Obsidian.

Me and a mate of mine like to refer to Oblivion as 'A game that you always come back to', and how true that is, so yes sometime during my playthrough of Skyrim I probably will play Oblivion, even if it's only for Ma'iq.
