The map itself is weird, it has cities and towns I've never seen before. Maybe it's just a fan product..

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
This is a very old fan-made picture. It was made around early 2008 [well that's when I first saw it]. You can see how dated it is from the locations of place such as Whiterun, being in the mountains and the lack of a tundra and after parts we know are in Skyrim.
First time I saw it though, it was a hoax for a Skyrim announcement. Turns out it was quite accurate...
EDIT: With regards to the town names, I have no idea where he got them from. May have even been a Bethesda 1st draft possibly? Who knows!

If that map does have any legitimacy about it, I hope Dunbarrow actually is going to appear in Skyrim. It's only ever been mentioned in Cap'n Dugal's journal from Oblivion's Thieves Den plug-in (thus its namesake, "Dunbarrow Cove" cavern).

Town names such as? If you refer to the main cities, they can be seen in the map of Tamriel, wich is avaiable since Oblivion if not before. And I really remember seeing that map back in 2008 when i started looking for info about the next Elder Scroll. It is fanmadelegoless wrote:Bonfy wrote:It IS a fanmade map. Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
It may be fanmade but it is definitely not from 2008. We are talking about the villages, not the city.

Just compare the two maps. It's very clear that it's fan made. All smaller settlements from the russian game map is non-existing on this FANMADE map.

It's still an accurate map disregarding the fake towns. The Everest point was well made too. Never thought of it like that, and it always seemed weird to me except now

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
Actually, most of those village names are taken from Arena, as are the two dungeons - Labyrinthian and the Fortress of Ice.
It obviously was made after Oblivion came out, but there are glaring differences from the "official" Skyrim map (like High Hrothgar/the Throat of the World is in a different place, and Markarth Side and Karthwasten have swapped locations.)
As for the "official" map, I've noticed that they have Pale Pass too far to the west. At the location it's shown, it would wind up north of Sancre Tor instead of north of Bruma.

Keep in mind its been 200 years since oblivion. Plenty of time for the ruins to move a bitenyamerT wrote: As for the "official" map, I've noticed that they have Pale Pass too far to the west. At the location it's shown, it would wind up north of Sancre Tor instead of north of Bruma.

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
Not that it matters that much but IMO the coat of arms for Winterhold is a crown. But it does also look like a castle/tower structure and the diamond shape brings to it a nice magical touch (since it's the home for the College of Winterhold)
My best guess for the crosses would be Daedric shrines, the one in the lake could be another of Boethia's shrines
I can imagine him now: "What's with these mortals and their inability to safeguard my shrines...?"

I'm almost positive the sigil for Winterhold is a castle... the castle being the College of Winterhold.

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
Well, the sigil does look like a castle, but it also looks like a crown. Both are plausible, since Winterhold was the old capital of Skyrim, and it's also a coastal fortress, as stated by the UESP.
As for Boethiah's shrine..
That was my first thought too, but I think there's too many of them.Overwatch wrote:My best guess for the crosses would be Daedric shrines, the one in the lake could be another of Boethia's shrines I can imagine him now: "What's with these mortals and their inability to safeguard my shrines...?"

Why is Winterhold a city without a wall then? I would have thought it would most certainly have been, being a fortress...

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
That was exactly my first concern all those months ago when I learned Winter Hold was no longer the Capital, or even a Major City. It feels very wrong from a previous Lore point of view, but hopefully there will be some kind of explanation as to why one of Skyrim's most prosperous cities is as it is today.

Isn't Winterhold the city that's supposed to have heavy Dunmer influence?

Apparently, at least it was when it was still the Capital.

I don't think the X's represent Guardian Stones.A few possibilities that come to mind are:Rat Kiosk wrote:I don't think there is one in that lake, its not a cross like the others. Looks kinda chest shaped.Knight wrote:

Some of the red crosses are really close to each other, and in the Falkreatheim region, one cross can be seen in a lake! If you use the map to find out where Todd was playing in the Skyrim demo, though, it looks like the crosses could be the Guardian Stones after all.
A)they mark both Daedra/Aedra shrines B)they mark possible skirmishes between rebels and the imperial legion C)treasures D)Special Dungeons E)Dwemer ruins
Regarding the lake X I remember reading something about someone who saw a spectacular ruin/statue thing half submerged in water in the middle of a lake.He even mentioned the name of the ruin but for the life of me I can't remember where I read it

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
Some of the crosses are vague and hard to see (and it's late and I'm out of patience) so I lost count at 13, but if there are at least 20 on the map they could mark the locations of Words of Power the player character learns his Shouts from. You know, the scratched markings in large stone slabs and such we saw in the demo video.Mefris Elmek wrote:I don't think the X's represent Guardian Stones.A few possibilities that come to mind are:Rat Kiosk wrote:I don't think there is one in that lake, its not a cross like the others. Doubtful. What would be the point of treasure maps if the treasure locations were revealed on the paper map?River wrote:Pets recently confirmed treasure maps are in, so maybe the map these maps are based on wasna treasure map.

Re: Let's Analyze the Map of Skyrim!
I counted 18 red crosses. There is a high chance of that being incorrect as the number of red crosses, though, because the crosses are hard to see and I don't have very good eyesight.

could someone please post a map with big red circles around all the x's, and maybe some grid lines?
