Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... -Two-Hours'
2:16:10 was the time it took Bethesda's QA tester, Sam Bernstein, to beat the game. Which raises the question, are you going for ''completing'' the game, or for enjoying it as much as possible on your first playthrough?

Re: Skyrim 'beaten in 2 hours
I play games to enjoy them, not beat them. Completing the game is last on my to do list tbh

You say that as if you can't enjoy a game after 'beating' it. There are pluses to both styles of play, imo.

Definitely enjoy it. No fun in rushing towards the end.
Oh btw, just to avoid stupid worries, Oblivion was beaten in 75 minutes by these guys, so the two hours are not reflective of the actual time it will take to normal gamers.

I'll be dicking around in an RP fashion for ages in the game.

True that, this was a serious speedrun competition. For me, I'll probably focus on questing my first playthrough, and later I'll go out and explore on new playthroughs. Honestly I want to see the main quest and main faction quests more than I want to see the scenery.Bonfy wrote:Definitely enjoy it. No fun in rushing towards the end.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
You do not "beat" an Elder Scrolls game. You can complete the main quest, but as far as I'm concerned, since you can keep going no matter how many quests you do, there is no defined goal.

Obviously, but in this context, the mainquest is what we're talking about. The poll makes things much more clear for you.

Morrowind was beaten in a little over 7 minutes. It took me a LONG time to finish the main quest. Like the article said, this guy didn't do anything but ran through the quests like there's no tomorrow. Also..
I must finish Skyrim in under 2 hours now....as well as a pie of his choice, baked by director Todd Howard.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
I wonder what kind of pie Todd baked. I bet it was an apple pie.
So, 75 minutes for Fallout and two hours and 16 minutes for Skyrim? That bodes well, right? How long did it take them to beat Oblivion?

I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
Alright, well no need to worry then...At least not about the length, hehe. Who knows, maybe the main quest will be the biggest disappointment in the history of gaming.
Not that I believe that, Bethesda are awesome. Annoying name for a company though, can't say "bethesda" quickly without sounding like a tool.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
Did they do that with a new character from scratch? This is just a guess, but if they wanted to test for software glitches playing the main quest, wouldn't it make sense to use a powerful character from the start so time isn't wasted on dying or improving the characters abilities?

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
That's not the point, the main quest has already been extensively play-tested, this is more of a Bethesda internal event.
Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
Yes but do they start with a character from scratch?

As a QA tester, Sam's played the game through a hundred times already.ArgonianDunmer wrote:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113646-Skyrim-Beaten-In-Just-Over-Two-Hours'

There's a reason why my most cynical and imperturbable characters are named 'Cassandra'— omnipotence may very well be nothing more than the indirect consequence of omniscience.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
I'd be curious to know what all the parameters are. What difficulty level did they use? It's doubtful they got that time in Oblivion at max difficulty. And if these testers are so darn good, why aren't they playing at max difficulty? They probably use fast travel, which is time-cheating in a sense since it saves time that normally passes in the game. In Oblivion it takes a while just to get out of the sewers at the beginning, and did that record commence before or after the sewer?

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
Did he do this in the PC or a console? So when they say "cheats were not allowed," does that mean console commands, or are cheats in fact in the game?
Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
For a person who has played through the oblivion main quest for the first time, it would take about 30 minutes the second time... So I think it is a big jump.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
I will be going for other things. In Oblvion simply going through and beating the main quest is going to take out quite a bit of gameplay. You lose out on Oblivion gates and everybody has a higher disposition towards you which will make it harder to improve speechcraft. I'm sure Skyrim will have similar things that you will miss out by going for the frosting right away.

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
Bethesda has claimed it will take players around 30 hours to beat the game's central quest, not including the time it takes them to father (or mother) a dynasty of lizard children

Me I don't really think about completing the game when I play ES. I just do whatever I feel like doing

Re: Skyrim 'beaten' in 2 hours
What constitutes, 'enjoy it'? I sort of agree with ArgonianDunmer actually, Bethesda puts a lot of work into building narrative and engaging storylines, so I'll probably focus on completing the major questlines in my first playthrough, exploring as I do so, but paying particular attention to quests and characters. I know I'm going to enjoy that style of play.
