Pre-Order Skyrim or Halo CEA?

Post by Pandamatak »

EDIT: I think a lot of people are mistaking this for a "which one should I get" thread. This is not the case - I am going to get both I'm merely discussing which pre-order bonuses are better; the in-game campaign effect (that actually changes gameplay for once), or the physical Skyrim map.

If I preorder Skyrim, I get the canvas map which I must admit is pretty cool.

But if I pre-order Halo CEA, then I get a special campaign effect that makes grunts explode!

I can only choose one - I'm going to buy both a week within release, but I can only preorder one of them!

You're asking this on a ES forum?

And why can you only choose one?
I thought when you pre-order, at least at where I shop, you only have to put down 5 bucks to secure the copy.

Not to be rude, but you are asking on an elder scrolls forum, obviously people are going to choose skyrim.

First of all, like everyone else has said, you're asking this on an ES forum, so the opinions are going to be narrow-minded.

Second, you're choosing between a PHYSICAL MAP OF SKYRIM and a pointless campaign special effect?

Third, Skyrim....

Hmm, comparing a game that you had to shoot someone 45 times with a futuristic gun before they died, compared to a game which is a sequel to a game where you sometimes had to shoot someone 45 times with a bow before they died....

Anyways, go with skyrim

To be perfectly honest, I now possess three maps of Cyrodiil for my use in Oblivion and Shivering Isles. And I've needed those physical maps for the first three days of playing the game at most. The third map— heck, I never even bothered to unfold it out of the DVD case.

Given enough time, you'll come to know the layout of Skyrim by heart. No fancy canvas map will take the sting out of that cold fact.

To be honest once again, I've never played Halo. And I still say that the Skyrim map isn't worth the extra trouble.

If you asked this on the Bungie forum, the majority of people would probably still vote Skyrim. Halo Anniversary is a remake. Remakes should never get priority unless they're up against MW3 or AC:R.

I prefer in-game bonuses to physical gimmicks, but I'd still choose Skyrim.

As good a series as halo is we have played it before but not something so unique as skyrim.

Hell, considering the fact I've never played Halo, I might was well get the Collector's Edition of the Anniversary remake.

In the great scheme of things, if you've convinced Pandamatak to buy the Skyrim gimmick over the Halo one, I'll fill in for the Halo camp.

Ehh, I dunno... I have the same problem to be honest. I'm probably going with halo though, because then I get the xbox to myself with halo for a month until I can get Skyrim for christmas and have to share :)

I would go with Skyrim for this reason: Even though im getting both, this Halo is just a remake. Skyrim is a completely new game. Plus its Skyrim. So.... yeah

Yeah, Anniversary doesn't even make the list of games I want coming out within the next few months. Skyrim, of course, I want Dark Souls, Battlefield 3, my friends insist I should get Gears III, Kingdoms of Amalur looks fantastic, and Assassins of Kings for the Xbox is a must-have.

The poll ties it pretty darn close. Looks like this is a decision you're going to have to make on your own.

Well, you could say that if I asked which game I should get, but I am getting both.

Besides, since it's a remake it's only $40 - pretty good if you ask me considering Halo multiplayer can usually endure a good 1-2 years for me before I start waiting for the next one to come out.

Skyrim, sure the map isnt the greatest but imo its better than your enemys blowing up in a remake... Plus if you get the game for pc im sure you could find a mod enabling that small detail, also correct me if im wrong but couldnt halo 3 do this without the pre order. Over all skyrim is the bigger deal, you cant really get the map anywhere else for free on the quality paper they give you, but you can always find a way to get exploding grunts. (if your on console you could borrow a friends pre order version, and see the 6-10mins of what im sure will be a barrel of fun x.x)

That's what I use thinking about, and this was the same argument one of my friends made when he was getting the legendary edition for Halo Reach (hand-painted statue). Now it's colecting dust in the basement. I'm afraid this is what will happen too with my Skyrim map because the ingame 3D map looks spectacular ;-)

As for getting the Halo one, they usually release the Halo games on PC ~4 years after they come out on consoles, so that's a long way down. I thought about using a friend's copy but you know how Microsoft is about this kind of stuff - the code is something you redeem and it is linked to your account specifically. Which would mean by playing the campaign and completing levels, my own progress wouldn't be going up.

Nevertheless, I will probably be going with Skyrim since Halo has a notorious reputation of selling copies with the pre-order bonus months after it's released. There's like an 85% chance a copy you get off the shelf will be a pre-order copy.
