beast races and meat / raw meat which should be better

Re: beast races and meat / raw meat which should be better
You do know that the ability to eat raw meat has nothing to do with species-wide intelligence or feral-ism, it's to do with anatomy; what your teeth are like, your stomach and - possibly - your appendix. Also, if you feed something cooked meat and then it has babies and then you feed them cooked meat and then they have babies and so on and so forth, then they will eventually evolve so that when you give them raw meat, they'll get sick. The same kind of goes for vegetarians. If they eat no meat for a long time, when they eat meat again they throw up. Basically, just because Khajiit look like cats - I'm sure I read somewhere that they are related to Mer (or was it Men) - doesn't mean they have the same organic structure and composition as cats. Further proof against the benefits of raw meat is that humans used to eat raw meat until they learned to cook and found that cooked meat was nicer and then began to eat cooked meat more often until they couldn't eat raw meat without side-effects. If the Khajiit and Argonians learned to cook - which they have - long ago, they won't eat raw meat.

Where does it tell you about their anatomy?

You can't get sick from fresh meat. It's infection and our delicate palettes which discourage people from eating meat raw.Rynkar wrote:And only humans and a few other species of animals actually get sick from raw meat.

When meat is raw it has all that bacteria on it from the animal. When you cook it, the bacteria dies. So I suppose having a good immune system helps.

Depends on the meat. People in the real world have no problems eating undercooked or even raw beef, but they'd have loads of trouble doing the same thing to chicken.

Clearly a lot of you have never heard of this new thing they're serving in restaurants these days. It's called "sushi". Marvelous stuff, really.
Seriously, though, raw "meet" is completely consumable by humans. Try carpaccio sometime. It's awesome. And in actuality, if you want to get the most nutrition from ANY of your food, its good to cook it as little as possible. The closer to raw, the better. Cooking kills bacteria but it also kills nutrients. So I guess in that sense, that's why I like the idea from the second or third post in this thread. Where raw grants a better bonus over time and cooked only grants an instant and smaller bonus.

Depends on the human I would say. If you spent 20 years eating perfectly cooked meat you'd be fat sick if you had raw meat because you'd never had had it before.

Re: beast races and meat / raw meat which should be better
Guys, cooking meat really has nothing to do with your species. It's a societal trait learned by increased intelligence and group awareness. We began cooking meat for many reasons, but at one point we ate raw meat too. Therefore, seeing as how far society has evolved in TES (and argonians for that matter.) I am highly doubtful that this would make sense at all.
Again, in the beginning it had nothing to do with taste. As a matter of fact the taste is only better to us because we have learned it that way. So seeing as the Argonians and Khajiit have reached a high intelligence level it only makes since that they would begin adopting certain skills for the greater good of the pack so to say. So cooking.

Case in point: my taste for a medium-rare cut of sirloin didn't manifest until I was an adult. When I was a child, my mother cooked those things down to the point you could consider them a slab of extra-thick jerky rather than a steak.
Thai food is wonderful. As long as it's not "homestyle". Trust me.
Have you ever seen crushed beetle guts used as a condiment? I didn't think so.

Re: beast races and meat / raw meat which should be better
This is just SO not true! Natural selection does not work that way.POMC S117 wrote:Also, if you feed something cooked meat and then it has babies and then you feed them cooked meat and then they have babies and so on and so forth, then they will eventually evolve so that when you give them raw meat, they'll get sick.
The only thing about raw meat that makes you sick is the bacteria on the meat. You cook it to kill the bacteria, so you can safely consume it. These bacteria are not gonna grow on live meat (due to the animal's natural defenses) so as long as the time it takes the food to get from the animal to the table is low enough the bacteria cannot grow to harmful numbers it is safe to consume.
People regularly eat raw meat all the time! I make it a point to just sear the outsides of my fish so the inside is raw and I never get sick. The reason you should not eat raw chicken is because the salmonella is on the inside of the bird. And I'm told ( but have no sources) that this is because larger farming places soak the chickens in a bath so they absorb water which plumps them up. Places that aren't very reputable use very dirty water, water that happens to be full of salmonella.
To get back on topic: I don't think Khajits or Argonians should get bonuses for eating raw meat. If anything Argonians should have a natural resistance to spoiled meat, but nothing else. Being able to cook meat should give a bonus to all races because cooking meat makes it easier to digest.
Another thing: Do we even see spoiled meat in TES? Because if we don't then it can be assumed all meat is safe to eat unless it is labeled as spoiled.
