That was poorly worded on my part I meant to use to french sounding name part to back up my point of them being based of real life Bretons many of which have french names. In retrospect it was a poor point but I still believe that Bretons are based of Bretons.legoless wrote:Sorry? Celtic names sound more like a mix of English, Irish and Latin. Bretons are from Brittany, one of the six Celtic nations.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: Skyrim Bretons and Nords
The fact is, that in each game, the culture of both races has shifted. Morrowind's Nords had strong 'Viking' AND Pict (Celt) influences. In Daggerfall, the Bretons were very Anglo-Saxon, however in Oblivion they became very French. It's not correct to say any TES race IS based on one real world one.
Re: Skyrim Bretons and Nords
In Morrowind the Nord's face paint looks very Scottish. Scotland had both the Picts and the Scots as well as the Celts. There is a famous football team here called Celtic.

I think you are right. Bretons and Nords both have Celtic influence (Picts are scottish Celts inspire Nords and Bretons are French celts inspire Bretons) and no race in TES is one real life group of people anyway. So I want to change my answer to both but different types of Celts.OblivionDuruza wrote:The fact is, that in each game, the culture of both races has shifted. (I wonder if them being celts is somehow responsible for them both being in my top 3 races.)

Glad we could be of help Assassin. The Elder Scrolls races are all of great interest to many. I guess it's because they are familiar, yet individually defined and unique, holding intrigue and some really well established cultures too.
