Crafting : smithing/alchemy
What do you think will be in for sure, how customizable will it be, what potions other then magicka/stam/health do you think will return, what do you want to try out first, do you think bows will be able to be made in smithing? etc etc lets discuss this one one of the things i am most excited about, although the loss of durability and degredation from use kinda bums me, no more disentegrate weaps/armor

Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
There was a couple threads, but they were quite a while back I believe. Also, there is an Edit button on your posts, so you can avoid double posting. It makes threads harder to read.
Now, On-Topic.
I don't really have too many thoughts about smithing. I honestly don't think I will use it much, if at all.
I prefer the feeling of elation when you find an awesome new weapon in a dungeon, or after a hard fight. Buying/Smithing them has always felt like kind of a let down for me.
Although I may use it for armour....

Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
Smithing is cool, but I was hoping it would also be to repair armor and weapons. But now that degradation is out, only using it to slightly improve weapons seems kind of gimmicky. I was personally hoping that they were trying to make the process more in depth or something.
Alchemy, i'm not too sure about it. I don't really like that I have to go to a station for it, but I can deal with it. Hopefully it's still as freeform as before.

I'm looking forward to it. I already have a blacksmith-type character in mind that doesn't dungeon-delve, but instead lives off what they can make.

I'll definitely be using Alchemy. My character is going to be a Nord ranger character. So no magical heals for me! That and I always tend to use Alchemy in any game that offers it.

You can both improve and create armor and weapons, I think the news was.Axeforhire66 wrote:Smithing is cool, but I was hoping it would also be to repair armor and weapons. Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
about alchemy:) i loved it in oblivion! when ever i reached lvl 20 i would go to a dungeon or ruin which i knew would possibly contain masterlvl alchemy apparatus and just plunder it, reload, and wait untill the game restocked the dungeon, untill i finaly had the complete set. Potions i did not care about much... poisons however were allways a big asset to my stealth characters and i have spent countless hours finding and stocking up on the ingredients need to make the most leathal of poisons. I hope the include some awsome poisons in skyrim. it does not bother me that you have to go to a station to do alchemy and you will probaly be able to set up a station in your house:)

I hope potions and poisons come in different vials and colors basically.

Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
Does this mean that if I smithed an iron shortsword, it would have slightly better 'stats' than and iron shortsword I would buy at a store? Or does it mean you would just repair one to a better condition?using it to slightly improve weapons seems kind of gimmicky.

Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
I'll definitely be using alchemy, I'm a compulsive ingredient gatherer, combined with me playing as a pure mage I'm sure I'll need countless health potions. I'm actually happy you have to be at a station now, I always hated carrying around all my alchemy equipment.
I don't know how much I'll use the smithing, unless I decide to create a warrior type character.

Re: Crafting : smithing/alchemy
I think Smithing will be a lot of fun just because of the possibility to create high tier weapons at a lower lvl. Not to mention you can turn around and Enchant the weapon for additional effects. This is definitely the most exciting addition for me because I love skilling and the creation system in games.
