Geography?

Post by Rynkar »

In oblivion the northern part of Cyrodil is completely iced over, but from what I have seen of skyrim it has snow only further north and on mountains. Was this just an oversight or is skyrim in a zone where even being further north its still not as frozen as northern cyrodil?

there are some warmer valley regions, but the mountains and cold do dominate the landscape, from what I understand.
Fear nothing. Love absolutely.

Gameplay tho is always in the same places... I'm pretty confident the majority of Skyrim will be covered of snow.
Also, consider that in Oblivion the northern part of Cyrrodil is covered by snow because it is all composed of mountains, i.e. getting to the north means getting higher too. I guess if there was plains instad of mountains you wouldn't have seen snow in Cyrrodil.

That's what I was thinking. Although, the Northern coast has been confirmed to be icy, even at relatively low locations.

the Todd has described the geography many times, it is glacial and mountainous in the north, developing valleys and rivers (what i have seen reminds me of rivendell in the LOTR movies) with greenery to the south

the seasons are fixed so it seems to me you will get regions which are like spring, or winter, etc..

it is also harsh, so dangerous and spectacular

i can't wait

yes, it seems the East and West borders are mountainous (to stop us wandering into other lands) and the north is actually coast, so i'd guess the high parts are cold and there's a nice ice floe type area to the North

the variety is there tho

Also consider this map,and think back to Solstheim. The southern region of Solstheim wasn't completely blanketed in snow and its farther north than Skyrim. I think the Bruma region in Cyrodil was just snowy because it was right against the mountains, not because it was so far north that there was always snow.

That and they didn't have nifty dynamic snow back when Oblivion was made. Heehee, dynamic weather <3
To see the world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

Rynkar, 20+ minutes in a 300+ hour game doesn't give an accurate impression.

Todd said that there were six to seven different "regions" all with their own look and feel (much like morrowind with it's ashlands, grazelands, etc).

Todd also said that the weather gets worse in higher elevations (and on the northern coast). Although snow should be bountiful in obvious areas.

We've seen two of the seven regions in gameplay, and they both look completely different, so chill with your impressions.
Not changing this until Skyrim comes out, and even then, I'll probably be too busy... playing Skyrim...
