Re: The food thread
I have a four slot toaster. For some reason beyond me the right side won't work or do anything unless the left side is already taken up.

Re: The food thread
That's common. It's the way its designed, so you have to use one side first. If you only have one piece of bread to toast, you have to put it on the left, otherwise the toaster doesn't think there is anything in there and won't toast. I think its a safety precaution so that if you accidentally press the button down, its not just on.

I should also mention that I also managed to mess up some tinned Macaroni & Cheese this evening. Not that I care though, I hate the stuff.

You better hope that you either make a lot of money and just eat out all the time, or marry a chef, otherwise you're screwed.

Re: The food thread
I'll just eat uncooked food all the time, or get a roomie that can be bothered to cook. Simples!
Re: The food thread
I find it easy to cook. Especially when I don't have to follow a recipe!

I take the scientific approach to cooking. As in, I follow the directions to the letter.

Re: The food thread
I find it harder to cook if I follow a book for easier recipes. I mean if I was cooking Baked Alaska (I don't know why though
) I woudl follow th instruction. I just like adding my own touch.

Re: The food thread
I've been eating like this for several years now - since I started high school, so that would be about 10 years now. I actually grew up not eating sugars and having organic food and drinks delivered, but when the family hit tough economic times we had lots of cheap crap, and I have to say, I don't know how I ever ate it. I eat a potato chip now and I feel sick. It's pretty awful.leroybrown wrote:How long have you been eating like this? You definitely upped me and some look at me like I'm crazy. ...Avron the S'wit wrote:Truth be told, though, nowadays I don't eat anything processed, fast, greasy, or frozen...which cuts back on quite a lot. Anyone else here eat healthy?
How do you get meat? Did you go vegetarian?
But it's really not so bad, when you think about it. My main goal is to avoid anything that has either too much sodium and preservatives or has a list of ingredients that takes up half a box, and half of the lines you cannot read. I like a diet that's fresh and delicious!
Also, I do eat meat, just not a considerable amount of it. I happen to be quite a fan of meat, and things like chicken are great for runners (excellent source of proteins!). When you become vegetarian your body suffers unless you make up the things you miss from meat, but you shouldn't eat just meat, and certainly not oodles of red meat. The healthiest diet is a varied one!
Besides, I love food. There isn't anything I won't eat. Except for green beans. I hate those things.

What food do you need to be healthy?
Easy. Chicken Curry.
There your problems are solved in a mix of Pepper, Tomatoes, Chicken, Rice and various spices.

I'm baking today. Strawberry and sour cream cupcakes with a whipped cream frosting (I felt like playing around with strawberries and cream, my favourite fruit-containing dessert), as well as two sourdough baguettes, to be served with avocado for lunch.
Agreed, if you go to the trouble of mixing the spices yourself. I had to buy curry paste a few times, because South African shops tend to not understand the concept of spices, and I don't care to repeat the experience.Velothi wrote:What food do you need to be healthy?

Re: The food thread
I'm not generally big on eating breakfast. It may be because I'm not usually awake early enough to eat it, or more likely, I'm not a big fan of typical breakfast foods. Cereal, bagels, toast is all a bit too light. I'm not a huge fan of eggs. I think part of the thing is that I like very filling, heavy meals, and breakfast just never seems to do that for me.
But today Wawa has once again proved itself to be potentially the greatest thing ever. A sausage, egg and cheese breakfast hoagie, with ketchup, peppers, bacon and pepperoni (love me some pepperoni) was what I just enjoyed. Holy Hoagies Batman it was good. If you have never experienced the awesomeness that is Wawa, I feel bad for you.

I've started to think I'm the only person who feels this way. I can get a breakfast without bacon, without sausages, without toast, even. But without eggs? Nowhere. Which is a pity, as I quite like having a big breakfast somewhere other than at home.scribbane wrote: I'm not a huge fan of eggs.

Re: The food thread
I've started to like them more as I have gotten older, but when I was younger, I hated eggs with a passion. Now a good cheesy omelette with bacon is good. But I still don't like fried eggs or hard boiled eggs. Scrambled eggs or omlettes.Leilah wrote:I've started to think I'm the only person who feels this way. Also, SCRAPPLE. OMG its amazing, and I have no idea why it is only usually considered a breakfast food, because I would eat it with everything. One day I made myself a scrapple, sausage, bacon, and cheese sandwich. Heaven. Just awesome.

The stuff I grew up eating:
Black pudding, and lots of it.
Pancakes, and lots of it.
Venison stew, and lots of it.
And look at how tall I am!

This is all I had to read to know this post was good and full of delicious things. (I am headed south this weekend to snag myself some long awaited Wawa goodness. Excited, I am!)scribbane wrote:But today Wawa...
Edit: My lunch today: a cup of delicious New England clam chowder with some oyster crackers. Nothing is better than warm soup on a cloudy, rainy, grey day, in my opinion!

Re: The food thread
Sir, one day we will have a Wawa adventure, and we shall chronicle every detail of the deliciousness to share with UESP the wonders of the divine Wawa hoagie and/or coffee drink. Let it be known, it shall be done.scribbane wrote:Protip2: Drive farther south. See me. Enjoy Wawa also.
Seriously. How did I live before Wawa? I have no idea.

Re: The food thread
I'm not sure the goodness that is Wawa can be effectively put into words, but we will try.. It's more of life changing experience than it is a meal. I eat it many times a week and it still does not get old.

Hoagie? Some places here call them Hoggies. Hoggys. Hogie. But never hoagie. Is that basically something in a tortilla wrap?

Re: The food thread
No, sir. This is a hoagie. Here in the US it is also known as a sub, grinder, or a hero, depending on where you are from. (It is dialectal.) It is a delicious sandwich on a long loaf of bread. And Wawa has the best ones.
