Bored Nord

Post by TheBiggestNord »

I beat the KotN and beat the Main Quest today so other than waiting for my new armour, what should I do? I dont want to lose my KotN armour so I dont know if I can do thieves guild. I kill "Big" characters like Umaril, and Mankor with one or two swipes so its would take like minutes to do the arena. By the way I have PS3. Im only lv. 11 and would like to be challenged some other way maybe the mages guild?

I cant remember the exact stats but Im your basic grunting, hacking and slashing Nord.

Hmm. I'd say go to Tidewater Cave and take on the trolls in a fist-fight.

(Go here and search for Tidewater Cave to find it's location: http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml)
it is a mystery

If you only do the game defined quests, then the game will be over quickly, and you will be bored quickly too. The key is to make up your own quests.

If you have completed the Fighters Guild, then you can go on a quest to eliminate all of the Bandits and Marauders.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Bandit_Dungeons

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Marauder_Dungeons

If you chose to complete the Mages Guild Questline, which you can as a Warrior Class, then you can make quests to eliminate all of the Necromancers and Undead.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Necromancer_Dungeons

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Undead_Dungeons

The game world is very open, so there are a lot of Quest that you can make up for yourself, which can help you to have things to do.

- - - - - - - - - - -

There is also the option to Roleplay. This helps to break the tedium of just dungeon diving. Have breakfast, lunch, dinner. Have a few drinks at the bar before retiring for the night. Always give a coin to the beggars when you are in town. Go to the Chapels every sunday, or visit the Daedric Shrines. Take off your Armor, and wear clothing when you enter the towns. Simple things that you would do in everyday life.

As Archmage, and the Fighters Guild Commander, check on your Guilds when you are in town. If you are on a Crusade to Eliminate Necromancers, then check in with the citizens, and your guild halls for information on nearby hideouts/dungeons. Sure, they do not actually tell you anything, but get into the habit of making conversation with the locals before you go on a Dungeon Raid.

- - - - - - - - - - -

You have to be careful with increasing the difficulty slider. It does not really make the game harder, it only makes the fights take longer. It only affects the amount of damage you give, to the amount of damage the enemies give. It can help to make the fights last longer than one or two hits, but that is about all that it does.

However, it can also make the fights last a long, long time. You can just as easily get bored when it takes 30 minutes of hacking and slashing to kill an Ogre, or Goblin Warlord. Play with it a bit, to find the right spot to make the fights more challenging, but also to not make the fights to long, and boring.

Get some levels (up to 20-25), so that you can find better armors, weapons and enchanted items, and maybe new enemies. At the same time, the game gets a little bit tougher. Unfortunately you have already made the main quest, so that you don't have access to Transcendent Sigil Stones any more; I usually stay out from Kvatch until I reach level 17 to obtain those stones. I also find the most satisfying fights against three or four high-level dremora.

Between H8Balls Inflatable rubber adventurer and titles like Bored Nord, sometimes just reading the side comments and titles is funny on this forum :)

I wish there was a + rep feature here I could use when I see those things :)

I was gonna change the "rump sticker" in my sig but, since it's SO entertaining, I'll leave it for the laughs. It's my imagined ace evasion + shock + terror + death tactic. Any enemy who sticks ME with a sword is in for a wild ride! I disappear upwards like a punctured balloon (evasion/shock) making a humorous farting noise that frightens them into running around like headless chickens (shock/terror), then I come back in for the kill, crash-diving on them from 1000 feet at 400mph with sword extended, like an air-powered screaming banshee ramjet with a needle nose (terror/death). :Twisted Evil:

OK, before anyone else gets the idea, here are ALL 10 funny nicknames for failing race characters...
Spoiler:
Battered Breton
Moanin' Argonian
Bored Nord (or Gored, Floored)
Borked Orc
Botched Bosmer
Scrapyard Redguard (or Backyard)
Done-in Dunmer
Faltered Altmer
Immaterial Imperial (or Serial, or Venereal)
Squeaked Khajiit (or Squeaky Khajiiti)

The usual suspects for self-imposed quests have been covered already. However, I have a few suggestions of my own...
Spoiler:
1. Loot Museum: Dungeon delve Indiana Jones style to collect at least one of every item. Keep the rare/unique ones, and sell the excess of common ones. Should really be started at Level 1 so you can spend some time at each Level collecting every possible item (e.g. Dremora Maces, Bows, Arrows, etc). But never mind. You can still collect quite a lot.

2. Soul Safari: Related to 1 above. Collecting common weapon/armour items can be coupled with collecting Souls. Buy or create a Soul Trap spell/enchantment, stock up with empty Soul Gems and go on big-game safaris to collect Souls as trophies. Don't worry about running out of empty Soul Gems. The Merchants restock after 3 days without visiting them, so you can always buy more. And the amount of Gold you make from selling excess loot easily covers the cost. What to do with all the filled Soul Gems? See 3.

3. Enchanted Armory: Related to 1 and 2 above. With plenty of common weapon/armour items and filled Soul Gems, you can experiment with enchanting some of them with neat effects. Sell the useless failures and keep the good results to USE as references so you know HOW to to enchant more expensive or unique weapons/armour. That way, you make your enchanting mistakes on cheap common items you won't miss, not expensive/unique ones which are a HUGE loss.

4. Alchemy Lab: Go on "nature rambles" all over the land to collect Alchemy ingredients. Designate a room in one of your houses with plenty of storage containers as an "Alchemy Lab" (basement of Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad is ideal). Spend time in the "lab" experimenting with combining ingredients to create powerful potions and poisons. For each new recipe, create ONE potion whose custom name IS the recipe for creating it. Example: ">21 +R H (Aloe, Lady's M)" where the > groups them in your inventory 21 means 2 ingredients 1 effect, + for positive effect, R H means Restore Health, and in brackets, the list of ingredients required (Aloe = Aloe Vera Leaves, Lady's M = Lady's Mantle Leaves). Keep your "recipe" potions as "records" in a "database" (i.e. a container) and that way, if tou want to know a recipe, just consult the database! You can even take favourite recipes with you so you KNOW which ingredients to collect and HOW to make that potion on-the-fly!

5. War Office: Appoint yourself Cyrodiil's "War Office" manager. Every time you clear a dungeon, make a note of the number of zones and types of enemies, then create a Restore Fatigue potion which acts as a "database record" detailing those facts. Designate a room in one of your houses as the "War Office" and keep the "record" potions in "database" files (i.e. containers). I use the bedroom of Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad as my "War Office", 6 containers. 5 of them databases, Caves, Mines, Forts, Ruins, and Trainers. I use a standard record format... Example: ":F Dasek Moor (3, M-U)" which means Fort, name Dasek Moor, 3 zones, contains M=Marauders and U=Undead. The full format? ":t name (zones, enemytypelist)". The colon prefix sorts them in my inventory, t is the dungeon type (C=Cave, F=Fort, M=Mine, R=Ayleid Ruin), name is the dungeon name with Cave, Cavern, Mine or Fort omitted then, in brackets, number of zones and abbreviated list of enemy types separated by hyphens (B=Bandits, Bb=Black Bow Bandits, C=Conjurers, D=Daedra, G=Goblins, Gws=Goblins [White Skin tribe], M=Marauders, N=Necromancers, U=Undead, V=Vampires, etc).

I have an inventive technical mind, so thinking up ways to STORE records IN-game is just as much fun as dungeon delving. Gives me plenty of "Eureka!" moments. It also means I don't have to exit the game to consult UESP Wiki, which is hell on my old PC because Windows stutters/pauses like crazy after exiting Oblivion (due to loads of Page File access). If I fancy some dungeon delving, I just consult my IN-game records to target a few dungeons with specific enemy types, and take those records with me so I don't forget if I get sidetracked.
Hope this helps you overcome the Bored Nord feeling.

Venereal Imperial cracked me UP! As if you're "itching" because you made a serious mistake (with the levelling plans, that is).

And I was howling (or should that be meowing?) with laughter with Squeaky Khajiiti... Daedroth: "Ooh. Plush toy!" <c.h.e.w.SQUEAK!> "Oh, AND it's got a squeaker too! I'm in LOVE!" <squeakSQUEAKsqueakSQUEAK>

I suggest mixing up your goals. Becoming too goal oriented can lead to boredom. For example if you have a goal to close all the Oblivion gates and that's all you do, you will be bored of Oblivion gates. Change up your routine and think of different things you would like to accomplish.

There are LOADS of fun things you can do between quests, from roleplaying ideas to just having fun with the game mechanics. Just takes a bit of inventive imagination. Try doing a Search of the forums for [mini-game]. I've posted a few times on the subject of inventing new ways to enjoy yourself in Oblivion's "virtual world", but I don't want to keep repeating myself as the list is SO long.

Haven't checked out the Shivering Isles have you? That's a whole new questline for you to sink your teeth into, guessing that you like the structured quest style of gameplay.

A question, so far in your Oblivion experience, what have you enjoyed? Simulating these things again in new ways might bring back some of the fun of the game. Another tried and tested option is to start a new character's journey. You could completely reinvent the game with a different character.

I did 'finish' the game with a warrior and after that I went playing on a mage/thief hybrid. You will experience the game from a different point of view. You can make different decisions as well  .

If you are on a PC, choose any city except IC.

Use the console to turn any essential NPC on the castle into a non-essential NPC. Kill them all. Don't forget, the count/countess should be the last for a bigger suspense. Sit on the throne and proclame yourself king of the Republic of Bananas.

You can also do similar things in other institutions. I always enjoy a nice cup of tea after murdering everyone in Anvil Mages Guild.

You can also use the console to multiplicate the Arcane University's mages and the a guard who is pursuing you. Only works if you're Arch Mage. It's a nice civil war.

And then you can go as loony as Sheogorath and say things like, "I'm the absolute ruler of this unpopulated wilderness, I am. All grass blades in Cyrodiil are hereby commanded to bow to me. See? They did! Even the tumbleweeds are parading past! AhahahahaHAAAA! Ooh! I think I wet myself. Never mind, who's to know? Hee hee! ... Oh no! The GRASSES are nodding knowingly, and condescendingly! Aargh! Leave me alone, nasty green things, or I'll execute the lot of you! Right! That's it! Where's my lawnmower?" :P  :?
