Playstyle for you first character?

Post by Frost Mage »

Will you be a Mage, Thief/Assassin, or a warrior? I think I'll most likely be either an assassin or a mage, or a mix of both.

There's nothing lightning out of your hands can't fix.

And I look forward to the teleportation/invisibility spells. Oh and flamethrowers.

Why only those three options? On the first playthrough, I think everyone will be going Combat/Magic/Stealth... Just to try everything out. Second playthrough, I'll make a focussed stealth character.

I think I initially concentrate to improve close combat skills, so it is some sort of a warrior. I am also very interested about those crafting things, so I have a feeling I have to think very carefully what to do :)

Indeed, if that is possible. But what I have understood, Skyrim can be much more restrictive for building Jack-of-all-trades than Oblivion. You may get your skills high, but without sacrificing precious perks for skills they are not necessarily that usable. For example, if there is five-stage "grades" (from Novice to Master) for magical skills with same sort of magicka limitations as in Oblivion, you need to put perks you gain when leveling to those skills, and then you cannot put them to other skills (like Sneak, One-Handed, Smithing, Enchanting, ...).

probably start off getting the basic survival skills down, so i will have some combat and healing, probably security and sneaking cos they are also vital to exploring, which is the first order of the day in a new land. I am torn between playing a dunmer (all time TES favourite first character) and Matt the Destroyer (Conan)

either way probably 3/5 combat, 1/4 stealth and 3/20 magic

this is until i know some stuff about Skyrim and then the stealth and magic will fill out more

A mage. Actually, all of my chars in the past games are mages, only some have the privilege of using a weapon now and then. So yeah, maybe a mage mixed with some one-handed weapons.

In my first playthrough i will try everything, you don't really have to pick at the start of the game in Skyrim which is cool, so if you get bored of being a mage, you can switch to being a warrior without having to make a whole new character

I will probably start three characters (warrior: sword and shield, thief: dual wield daggers and some marksman skill, and a mage) and get each to lvl 5 or something and then choose the one that feels more fun at the time.

I'm going for a Nightblade-ish character wearing light armor with a shortsword in one hand and a spell in the other. I'll strike like a viper from the shadows..

Sniper. Long range-take downs are the way to go for me. I've tried playing other styles, but...honestly, I suck at them.

I'll probably play as a warrior first, then mess around with mage or a custom hunter/archer class. that whole lone wolf, silent killer concept (assassins and thieves) in games is so overrated imo

I made my mind up a long time ago to play a Nord warrior first due to the setting. I'm feelin some dual axes. And I really want to try smithing.

Dual wielder swashbuckler with some magic added (alteration for locks, destruction to kill, restoration, alchemy for poison, a strong emphasis on illusion... whatever). So basically a bard styled character. If I can find one, mod or otherwise, I'm gonna abuse a feathered pirate hat type thing.

Nord with a nice shiny sword and shield, with some heavy armor. I really want to get into the whole, Nord Dragonborn thing.

-A Gandalf-like character, wielding a staff in one hand and an enchanted sword in the other, with regular switching of either to spells.
-A combination of what Dracomagne & Qwackie have mentioned. Dual-axe wielding barbarian Nord wearing heavy armour making frequent use of protective & healing spells.
-An archer who enjoys keeping well out of harms way with clever use of stealth, poisons, summoned creatures and these new-fangled trap spells.

I really think I'll have to start a character with the intention of playing him for roughly 10 hours, just to try out various things.

I always take Warriors on my first playthrough. I plan on duel wielding swords with heavy armor to compensate for the loss of block.

In Morrowind, I found playing a pure mage very rewarding.
In Oblivion, I found playing a pure mage entirely frustrating.

So I think it's going to be a wait-and-see as to how the game actually plays. But more than likely my top three skills will be Blade, Sneak, and Restoration, because that's how I tend to roll.

After playing melee-centric characters with magic supplementing it, I think this time around I'll be playing as a Battlemage (Mage with Heavy Armor) and carry around a battleaxe
