I think Skyrim is hard
From the videos I have seen, and the articles I have read, I've started to notice more and more that the people playing the demo are dying a lot.
It sounds like the wolves are really easy to kill, but I saw a necromancer light someone up, and one guy was writing about the giants killing him in one shot.
There has definitely been a contrast with regular people playing the game as it is, and todd playing it on god mode

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I see what you mean. I hope that it's just one of those things that fixes itself over time, that is, that those enemies are intentionally hard for a level 1, and designed for higher levels.
Re: I think Skyrim is hard
i hope that my friend, oblivion was way to easy and becomes boring after some point,
and i dont want them that just rise the hit points of my targets that is just more boring, i want them to be killable in one or two hits but i want that to myself too, kind of realistic instead of hard

Yeah, I saw a leaked video of an Argonian getting completely wrecked by an Apprentice Necromancer. He hit him with his sword but it didn't do a lot of damage.

Nanza how could you
. No I saw that vid too, that guy was completely destroyed. Maybe it was just him though. Even if it is hard now, there's still time for it to be scaled back testing and these hands-ons will give any of that sort of info to Beth.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I thought on the demos that game journalists were playing, they were stuck at level 1?
A hero can be anyone, even a man doing some as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended.

Where are you guys getting all of these videos? I had only seen the one long one... which I no longer have due to ...PC issues XD
I'm glad magic sounds like it's putting people down. But hopefully swords for the unskilled don't amount to sticks.

I don't see this as a problem, in fact I'm just pleased that Skyrim will be hard. Don't go where you are not supposed to go! And concerning the giants... just leave them alone

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
The areas are probably scaled the further away from the starting area and the higher up you go. They would probably level 2 or 3 once the beginning is over, and the difficulty slider will help a bit. And I don't see it as a problem either. In stead of mindless hack and slash I need some strategy. Almost like the witcher needing potions and traps before a fight.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I just noticed that the player fighting the Necromancer was killed by a Skeleton from the back and not by the Necro. Still, Necro had a lot more health than the player.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
How can you complain about enemies being hard? Did you like the excessively-levelled land of Cyrodiil? Just don't take on a necromancer until you get a big ebony hammer and you'll be fine.

So? Everyone sucks when they first play a game. I was killed by a stunted scamp when I first played Oblivion...

To be fair I don't think Soda is necessarily saying it being hard is bad thing, just that some current evidence suggests the game could be hard.

Theres a difference at sucking at a game and being killed in one hit though.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
Exactly, I think it's more reflective of the new aspect of levelling world in Skyrim, with difficult areas and not so difficult ones. The PC should not be able to beat every enemy from the get go.River wrote:To be fair I don't think Soda is necessarily saying it being hard is bad thing, just that some current evidence suggests the game could be hard.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
So glad the entire world is not going to be scaled like oblivion. I am on an oblivion playthrough with an effeciently leveled argonian warrior mage hybrid and it is honestly boring because the enemies are so easy

Are they playing with the slider at the bottom, top, somewhere in-between?

The game needs to start easy, gradually get harder and then about 3/4 through start getting easier again.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I think skyrim should be hard. I think maybe even a common person should be difficult at first, but gradually get easier. Giants and dragons should be extremely difficult in the beginning, and slowly get easier, but even when you hit the mathematical level cap, they should still be pretty hard to fight. Dragons are one of the things I don't want to get to be easy when you are a high level.

It'll be great to actually think about how to approach certain scenarios differently, seeing three Dwemer Centurions and planning out your attack, trying to immobilize two of them so you don't get killed outright or simply using different elemental spells for different enemies beyond just weaknesses (Shock for casters, or using frost first to slow down a pack of wolves, then unload on them with the full power of fire)

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I hope that it's hard in a satisfying way- so, when you do well you feel accomplished, and you can't just bumble into things. I like having to plan attacks.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
I like being able to obliterate things as a high level that might have been challenging at low levels. Hopefully Skyrim will do this, but without making the game too easy at a high level, if you understand what I`m saying.

Re: I think Skyrim is hard
Two words... Demon's Souls. That game was frustratingly impossible until you learned how combat worked and how the different enemies behaved and I absolutely LOVED it. Most enemies being able to down you in a few hits makes for much more visceral and emotional combat experience, the fact that if you did die you reset the entire level from the beginning and lost ALL your currency unless you could make it back to your blood stain to retrieve the souls you had collected made the reward and feeling of accomplishment in defeating an entire zone and the boss at the end all the sweeter. I wish more games took this approach, I miss spending my money on a game I intended to play for years to come instead of mindlessly drudging through the story in a mere 10-15 hours of game play that I just spent $60 on only to return my game to gamestop for half the price and wait until the next mind numbing adventure hit the shelves. The more challenging the better I say.
