Re: Price and DLC discussion
People aren't annoyed about waiting a month, that's nothing in the lifetime of a game like Skyrim, it's more that Microsoft has this relationship with Bethesda, that really limits other companies. Morrowind being the key example, whereby an agreement that it only be released on Microsoft consoles/OS' was basically reached, and with Oblivion whereby the PS3 was only included later because Beth wanted to make use of its release.

Yes I agree totally with you there, unfortunately in the world of capitalism, making sure you get the money and nobody else is the golden rule.OblivionDuruza wrote:People aren't annoyed about waiting a month, that's nothing in the lifetime of a game like Skyrim, it's more that Microsoft has this relationship with Bethesda, that really limits other companies. The very idea of a free market in capitalist country is often a bad joke, there are always rules, agreements, laws that make it anything but a free market and it is always the end user that suffers.
Its the old "power corrupts completely" issue.
I have always believed its better to release to all platforms at the same time and let the customer choose which platform he or she wants to own. Mind you, if microsoft did that from the start, Windows would not have been the dominant OS because there where better OS's out there that would have risen to the surface instead.

Being a Ps3 owner i am annoyed at this Microsoft-Bethesda agreement as i am paying the same price for the game as xbox owners and getting less back. But i dont believe for a second that Sony wouldn't make a deal like this if they had the chance. (they did it with LA Noire)

Re: Price and DLC discussion
Most definitely, all companies are at each others' throats. That's greta for competition when it means they try to give consumers better deals in order to win sales, it's a pain when they do things that restrict other consumers. Still, 30 days isn't a lot, as I mentioned earlier, and besides, it means that we'll know a little more about the DLC before we rush out and buy it.
Re: Price and DLC discussion
Can we stop talking about Console vs PC, Xbox vs PC and PS3, capitalism and other companies and get back to discussing DLC's?

Yes, but I'll be buying it regardless, so the only effect the exclusivity will have will be to allow spoilers to leak onto the Internet and to make me irritated.OblivionDuruza wrote:Still, 30 days isn't a lot, as I mentioned earlier, and besides, it means that we'll know a little more about the DLC before we rush out and buy it.

Re: Price and DLC discussion
Until they say something about the DLCS all we do know is the first 2 are being released on the Xbox 30 days before any other platform. So it is hard to avoid talking about that since its all we know about them.

Re: Price and DLC discussion
The good news is that those saying it would be on the disk will most likely be wrong.
If they dont know what to do yet I find it hard to see them getting it done in less then 3 months

Size. It's the difference between a new area or a new questline (Fighter's Stronghold, KotN, etc.) and a region large enough to fit numerous cities and villages, each with their own quests, in addition to a main quest line (Shivering Isles).Wolfie wrote:Dlc and exspasions are the same thing in theroy....

Re: Price and DLC discussion
DLC = Plug-ins and expansions. Plug-ins are small additions to the game (Spell Tomes, Wizard's Tower) while expansions are larger additions like new areas, long questlines, new factions etc.

Re: Price and DLC discussion
I'm hoping that Bethesda sticks to their promise of having fewer, bigger DLC add-ons, as the 30-day release window will be pretty cheap if the first two DLC are just crummy items or such.
The DLC should really be things at least the same kind of size as the Knights of the Nine (but with truly all-new dungeons). Any new items they want to include should come as part of one of these expansions.
With a bit of luck, houses will be better handled in Skyrim, so there want be as much need for add-on homes. But they could do it as a bigger pack containing a variety of houses, accessible via optional, but hopefully more interesting, side-quests that you actually have to find after being approached by an NPC or such to point you in the right direction. I didn't like being bombarded with quests due to having lots of DLC installed; more of it should require discovery, or have proper NPC lead-ins rather than you somehow getting a letter while escaping through the Imperial City sewers…

Personally, I'd prefer it if they made full expansion packs rather than large plug-ins.Haravikk wrote:I'm hoping that Bethesda sticks to their promise of having fewer, bigger DLC add-ons, as the 30-day release window will be pretty cheap if the first two DLC are just crummy items or such.

Re: Price and DLC discussion
Huh? Any distinction is academic given that a big plug-in these days essentially is an "expansion pack" as they're one and the same thing when it comes down to it. If what you mean is you'd rather see quests added within a new environment rather than large adventures still set within Skyrim then sure, I'm hoping for at least one such DLC, but I'd be happy with both that and a Knights of the Nine size plugin, but with properly crafted dungeons and added location (i.e - not just more of the same), so it'd be in Skyrim, but visiting some unique and interesting new areas within it that were previously inaccessible, or hidden within some kind of dungeon network.legoless wrote:Personally, I'd prefer it if they made full expansion packs rather than large plug-ins.

Re: Price and DLC discussion
Fully fleshed-out expansions similar to Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles would be much more preferable to a smaller plug-in like Point Lookout. I can appreciate the plug-ins, but I'd rather more work put into a single DLC than into a couple smaller ones.

Yeah, I'd like a full-fledged expansion, like The Conquerors for AOEII.
