Skyrim Rating

Post by OblivionDuruza »

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... ting-in-UK

So Skyrim has gotten a 15 Rating in the UK, supposedly containing "strong violence" as opposed to Oblivion's "Moderate fantasy violence".

As far as I can guess it though, the rating's pretty much the same as Oblivion.

We know the developers don't particularly care about the rating, and I really don't either since I've been playing M rated games for some time now. Ever since the Suffering was let out :P

But this also means there are more opportunities for role-play, such as playing the drunkard nord who got imprisoned and became Dovahkiin. His first activity? Get another bottle of mead!

Or the assassin Dunmer who still kills for coin and honor, individually or with the Dark Brotherhood.

So on and so on.

Oblivion was really even bloody, so it wouldn't take much to be a step up from it.

A 15 rating in the UK(BBFC) is usually a PEGI 18 elsewhere. Call of Duty World at War got a 15 rating in the UK and it's violent enough.

Hmm I wonder if it will be PEGI 16 or 18.

I just seen an add somewhere where it listed skyrim as an m rating (u.s.).

But this game will be a step up from oblivion, because if i'm not mistaken, oblivion was aiming for a t rating, but didn't get it. This time, they are fully embracing the maturity of the franchise, and just going for the m rating at the start.

I'm loving the "intense violence" on the rating.
Not changing this until Skyrim comes out, and even then, I'll probably be too busy... playing Skyrim...

IMO oblivion wasn't even close to being worth an M.

and honestly, its not a bad thing to not have more violence than is needed. I don't want God of War level violence with explosions of blood everywhere.

Awesome, World at War was MA in Australia so chances are Skyrim will be too, and I'll be able to play it completely and totally unburdened by guilt. Image

Hmm funny the link says 15 BBFC for the UK but on all the pre-order sites it says 18?

Odd....

Wait what, where does it say that? All the pre-order sites I've seen say that it hasn't received a rating, granted I've only been looking at Australian ones. Link please ...

Edit: I did find this ESRB Rating, which makes it out to be much gorier and mature:
MATURE with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, and Use of Alcohol.

That's what I thought too. I live in the U.S. so they've kind of unofficially confirmed that the game will most likely be rated M. I have to go to bed guys. HTML coding is tiring

Ah, that first link says PEGI 18 from what I can see, which is what the trailers have been rated. The BBFC is different isn't it?

I just checked online and the symbol on the second link matches the BBFC one, so one of these sites is clearly mistaken, unless we're missing something :|.

I completely agree with the 2nd part of this post.

Oblivion was originally given a T rating but due to the amount of adult themed mods for the computer they rerated it to M

Actually, Bethesda submitted parts of the game that weren't as gory as the final game. The topless mod played a part but wasn't the sole reason. Bethesda shares half the blame.

Mars, you don't really believe that do you? The mangled bodies and all seem much more like an excuse to upgrade the rating than anything. The fact Bethesda included nude models is the reason.

I thought that was a mod. Or was it an unused file?

An unused file I believe, because the maker didn't actually add the nude female meshes.

Check out some of the details behind the rating, here.

Decapitation! Heads will roll!

And the decapitation is fully confirmed by Pete tweet:

I hope that you can turn down the blood splatter... I'm just the kind of guy that can't take it, and in a practical sense it would lessen the minimum requirements like in Oblivion.
Decapitations... I don't think that I could turn that off...

I don't think anyone here has parents, well ...misinformed enough to not buy them the GoTY just because of some silly M rating.
