Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
I might. I have a very old xbox version of the game that I am still playing. Often it crashes and tells me to clean the disc. I think it may be getting too scratched. So I am in the market. I know they have a xbox 360 version but that is about all. I have a pc version with a construction set but I am not good enough to have fun with it. About all the keeps me from buying mods is I hate the controller. Just can't get over it. I am spoiled by the xbox. I have a logitech controller for my pc but it is not quite the same. So yes. Better graphics some new quests may some popular mods thrown in. BTW hate to show my ignorance but what is TES III? Temriel elder scrolls? I think I have heard of it but like I say if it is for the pc I don't know about it.
Edit: thanks Duruza. I am such a dummy. Must not be the Nevarine after all.

TES simply stands for The Elder Scrolls, III is the Roman numeral for 3.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, was a little too long for the title

I wouldn't buy a remake, the original feels too awesome to be remade. If they remade it, it wouldn't feel like Morrowind, unless they just fixed some small bugs and made the number of cliffracers 4/5 of the original number.

I'd pick up a remake, just because I love the stroyline of Morrowind. If they spruced up the graphics and fixed the bugs, which I'm sure they can easily do now, it would make for a fantastic xbox360 or ps3 game. I wonder if they could set it up like a DLC addon or something. That might work.

I'd buy a remake if it were released. It's a good game and I like it so much that I couldn't not. If it added the mainland and more quests and guilds, and the other Great Houses, that would be even better, but even only having the game with Oblivion or Skyrim's combat, graphics, fast travel, and other good stuff, would make it worthwhile.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
I would not buy a remake of Morrowind. They'd just just f@ck it up. I have felt the need for a better version of Morrowind, so I use that Sound and Graphics Overhaul mod along with a slew of other mods that improve atmosphere without breaking that vanilla feel. Fortunately, I have a system powerful enough to handle all the additions and still run at 30+ fps.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
I wouldn't at the moment. I've always played this game on a PC and never had much of a gripe about graphics. Until I overclocked my 2600 Mhz processor, the original played just fine and I could plug-in some of the mods that made the game even better. But recently I managed to get my CPU up to 3125 Mhz and I was able to install the Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul and make it run well.
I can't say enough about the awesome changes it makes to the game. It looks as good as Oblivion, perhaps better. Almost as good as some of the Skyrim previews I've seen.
However, the bulldozers will arrive in Zambezi soon (I'm an AMD man through and through, I build my own PC's) and after my next build, if Bethesda were to remake the classic with Skyrim type graphics, I suppose I would buy it.
But I seriously doubt they will. Skyrim is the thing now and I expect with the new Construction Set it will have, the modding community will be hard at work (or is it really play?) adding plug-in's galore for it. From what the rep's at Bethesda have said about how pleased they are with what the modding community has done with our favorite game, I think they will be quite content to let us tweak away on Skyrim. Giving us a remake of Morrowind would only be a distraction, and purely an offering for the sake of nostalgia.

Which is kind of the point.ladamyre wrote:an offering for the sake of nostalgia.
But regardless, by no means should a remake ever come before a new game, but actually, there's much more that could be done to the game than simply revamping the graphics.
I just wish Bethesda had waited a little before making Morrowind. They had such grand plans that never saw fruition, and in reality, while TR will be amazing, I'd love to set foot on a true Bethesda mainland Morrowind, and become a part of a true Bethesda Great House Indoril.
We can always dream I guess.

Would I buy it?
Probably.
Should they make it?
No, as much as I love Morrowind it doesn't need to be remade I would rather new games in the series. A prequel could be interesting.

I would like a side-story game based on the battle of Red Mountain or Nerevar's story(the disappearance of dwarves and [&@%!]). The game would probably more action-oriented since it was a war after all.Knight Captain Kerr wrote:Would I buy it?

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
Although I love the game the graphics are very dated. I would love a remake, just that keep everything from the original in, and only update the graphics and fix all the bugs. And increase normal walking/running speed so that I don't get addicted to the Boots of Blinding Speed again. And fix item ownership!
A few features from Oblivion would be nice too, such as NPC schedules of sleeping/eating/closing shop, skill perks. Combat similar to Oblivion, rather than the stale chop/slash/thrust.
Now, I realise there is Morrowoblivion, but from what I know it isn't fully stable/playable.....
I'd pay for the code writers to come back and fix the old game so that it doesn't crash every 30 mins. The morrowind.exe fix reduces the frequency of crashes, but they do still occur.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
I'd be up for a side game looking into Nerevar and that time period of the Dunmer. Even if it were in the style of Redguard, I think it'd be great for Lore and something I could really enjoy. I still think that a remake of Morrowind, including the mainland and new questlines for it, including Factions, Great Houses and a 'Mainquest', would be almost a new game combine with the Morrowind we know and adore, and also a Great opportunity for Bethesda to expand its Elder Scrolls team, as a sort of side project. Still, a new game set in modern or future Morrowind/Black Marsh would also be great.

I'd love a game about Nerevar. Culminating in a final battle at Red Mountain. Maybe the player could be a forgotten side hero. Someone working from the shadows to aid Nerevar? We could also get to see the Dunmer when they were still Chimer.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
The prequel idea sound cool actually, but with regards to the suggested remake of the original Morrowind I’d settle for a proper port to the newer systems the backward compatibility on my Xbox 360 seems rather shoddy to me.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
If another studio could handle a remake or port, it might be better than Bethesda actually handling it themselves, unless this was accompanied by a large expansion, adn was a side project of sorts.
Actually, I guess I have a couple of ideas for Morrowind themed games, and I might as well run them by you here.
I actually really like the idea of a side game based on The War of the First Council. This could begin with a cinematic portraying the actually Council which discussed the secular practices of the Dwemer, and could end with the Dwemer leaving in rage, declaring war upon the other Houses.
The player could follow (but not partake in) the initial defeats of the Orthodox Houses, and the actual game could begin with the appointment of Nerevar as Hortator, and the player might act as a soldier under him, earning a degree of fame and promotion through various battles and quests building up to the Battle of Red Mountain, and including negotiation the alliance with the Ashlanders, involving performing quests for them in order to gain their favour; and the siege and storming of the Dwemer Stronghold at Red Mountian.
The game could conclude with the ascension of the Tribunal, and provided evidence to support both theories on Nerevar's death.
An additional idea I had, was a game encompassing either, the tension between Morrowind and Black Marsh, or the potential invasion of Tamriel via Morrowind and/or Black Marsh from Akavir. Black Marsh and Morrowind have a common sense of mystery and are both lands that are both alien and intriguing. As such, they would be the perfect complement for each other, IMHO.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
It would also be nice if they start a side-story about what happened in Mainland Morrowind during or after the Oblivion crisis. Vvardenfell would be locked up earlier in the game as to make the players more familiar with the mainland and be later be opened for you to explore again. I think that setting would be more likely since making a prequel to Morrowind means only having the Chimmer, Dwemer, Khajiit, Argonian and Nords as races. And about another company making the game, I think Obsidian Entertainment would be a solid choice. Star Wars KOTOR II:TSL, Neverwinter Nights 2 & Fallout: New Vegas we're pretty solid follow up games from them.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
Yeah, that or a completely new studio, as a first project, sort of 'learning the ropes', so to speak.
The War of the First Council also involved Orcs, iirc, however if you were looking at a Redguard style game, you'd probably focus less on the roleplaying element, and might just have a pre-defined Chimer character or something (which I would be happy with). I'm not entirely sure if that's what the fan base wants, but if Bethesda ever did revisit side-games to the series, I think that would be a winner.

A few days ago I discovered something interesting, Bethesda did a limited edition re-release of Arena in 2005...
Not a remake, mind, but still.

I looked into that, and it turns out that this release was to allow PC gamers to play the game without having to worry about compatibility with DOS. I guess it's plausible that something like this to allow people to play Morrowind on new consoles/OSs might be possible.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
I was just thinking about it, and even without a remake, a re-release of Morrowind, with a selection of Mod packs could be just as good. Think about if Bethesda took a small parcel of time to get some mods together, talk to the modders responsible, polish the mods up a little and eliminate any of the little bugs people have when trying to run said mods, than package them all together for simple installation (no more fiddling with mod installation and orders) and than wrap them in a pretty bow, and ship them, ready for the PCs and Consoles of this day and age?
The MGSO would be one inclusion that could surly revitalise the game, while Tamriel Rebuilt could add the mainland. Bethesda could 'bring those mods up to their own standard' (seeing as they are a professional organisation, with the power/resources to do things modders would struggle to). They might include a couple of other overhauls, etc. that might make improvements to the game that make it more marketable, or do things they couldn't do with the technology of the time, etc.
I'm fairly certain most modders would give their work gladly to Bethesda, for only recognition, and possibly the chance to work with the developers, as none of them gain financially for their work anyway. This process in itself could help Bethesda check out potential employees of the future, and reforge Morrowind without the dedication to the project, that doing a 'remake' would require.

I'd buy that, although the fact people can get the mods for free and mod it themsleves might hurt sales.

I had thought of that point, although that's not really a problem for consoles. I guess it would not be pitched to Morrowind fans as much as people who haven't played it, so the hope would be that new players would buy it working off the Skyrim hype. Those players might not have so much patience with Morrowind, particularly the vanilla.

Re: Would you buy a remake of TESIII: Morrowind?
To follow up, I'd buy a remake for sure. Because the two big problems i had with it are simply the GAMEPLAY and GRAPHICS. Magic is a pain to use, and there's nothing more annoying than swinging your weapon or fists at something watching it go through but not hitting because that's not how it works... lol. But you get used to it and things like that don't matter once you're a higher level. LOVE ammount of items in morrowind compared to oblivion.
I would not however buy a new version of Morrowind. And if they did make one i would hope to see all of morrowind, not just a third of it. The only reason why i would not want a new game that's NOT a remake is simply because (SPOILER ALERT), I just finished reading Lord of Souls and had read The Infernal City months ago which takes place only 40 years after Oblivion and the ministry of truth plummeted into the city of Vivec, destroying it. It cause red mountain to errupt and now half of Vvardenfell (which half was already covered in ashland lol) to become virtually inhabitable. And judging from one of the characters in the books who was the cause of this, it happened only a decade or two after Oblivion. Just doesnt sound like much would go on there anymore, with the waters around the flatened Vivec boiling hahaha.
(Not to change the subject, but i think it would be awesome if you were able to travel to different planes of oblivion of more than just a couple of the princes in Oblivion. Or a DLC in Akavir or what not)

Yeah, I would have liked to have seen more of the other Anticipations and maybe not so much of Azura in Morrowind. Don't Boethiah and Mephala matter?
On your point about the events of the Red Day, who knows, perhaps the climate would have readjusted, and the Dunmer been revitalised in the centuries after the event. Eventually, although it might be a bit optimistic of me, Morrowind might be returned to a state of relative normality. Even if it wasn't a game following the struggles of the Dunmer to regain Morrowind might be fun to get into.
