What can I do for you stranger?

Post by Rhcpftw »

Greetings to you

Here I am again with some more poll craziness! The question of the poll is: Which race do you consider the most unfitting Dovakhiin/Skyrim...ian?

Note that Nords are not a part of the poll for obvious reasons

Now vote and discuss!
I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Why wouldn't an elf be Dragonborn? I don't see that ("just because") as a true justification ... :|

Anyhow, I am inclined to think that the Argonians wouldn't handle the cold climate of Skyrim well, and the same goes for the Khajiits and even Redguards. I wouldn't expect there to be a lot of them in Skyrim.

As for which seems less likely to be Dragonborn, well I don't think there really is one that stands out, but the men races seem to fit the build well, so I certainly wouldn't say it were any of them.

I think that will be focused on the Dunmer and possibly Altmer, but as far as being Dragonborne, I wouldn't call any of them more or less fitting, aside from perhaps the Nords and Imperials, as far as the Lore behind the Dragonborne. As for being Skyrimians , that seems easier to answer, and it has me leaning Argonian actually, they seem more suited for swamps, marshes and the tropics in general.

I think it is the orc beacuse a cursed elf who now looks and almost behaves as a goblin and that was branded a wild beast in the past doesn`t fit my idea of dragonborn. As for Skyrim-somethings i say that it is the altmer who is less prepared and that more stands out.
If there is one thing that needs to be said countless times is that:
Argonians Ruuuuuuuuuuuule \m/!!!!!!!!!!

I just have a hard time picturing the dragonborn with a tail...And scales and fur. And green hide...and pointy ears.

Human superiority in games for the win.

Altmer and Argonian (One the more 'elven' of the mer and the other generally not used to cold conditions despite looking like a humanoid dragon) I can understand people thinking they're unfit, but Khajiit and Orcs? Orcs live in similar conditions (One of the most bestial of the races without being 'cold-blooded') and Khajiit have fur (Along with the whole "A dragon is just a big cat")

I chose Altmer, mostly because of hatred of mer in Nordic history and Altmer being the most closely related to the original Aldmer

Depends on the dragon, I believe. Besides, do dragonborn..ians...really need tails and scales? I'm a firm believer of human superiority in video games.

Azeroth, Thedas, Nirn, Albion, The Milky Way galaxy, the galaxy far far away etc etc should be ruled by humans. I'm just sayin'.

Azeroth? Really?

Humans superiority is boring in fantasy, Human perseverance in horrible conditions is much more interesting.

Hehey, it's better to see humans kicking other species' backsides than our owns, like we do in real life.

And it's not that there shouldn't be competition - Nirn's got quite a nice balance of races, and with the humans in the middle. Perfect, wouldn't you agree?

And call me a Nirn-racist, but Argonians as Dovakhiins?

Religiously, Argonians are the odd ones out. As far as we know, they don't worship the Aedra (If my memory is correct, the Dovakiin is granted his powers by the gods). With possibly the Dunmer close by since they don't worship the Aedra at all, instead either turning to the Daedra or Tribunal (We're talking as a group, not on an individual basis)

I'd say Khajit, Argonian, Orsmier, and Dunmer would be odd for peoples whom worship the Nine (which Skyrim does as of now).

Since Khajit's religious leanings are only known through an Imperial Scholar document, and there is little trust to be placed in the Imperial Scholars.

Argonian for obvious reasons of Hist, Orsmier are known for worshipping Malacath more so (as the Elven tale goes; Trimiac got eaten and the Orcs were born.), Dunmer are Tribunal and Daedra.

Even if they are close geographically; the cultures are indeed different.

But really? the Dovahkiin can be anything, as the individual Dovahkiin can be anything.

S/he is also (by default) a dragon speaker/slayer.

S/he may also be against the Nine, or against all gods.

Well... Nords kinda worship the Nine, in that they have the same dieties, but different aspects: Akatosh and Kynereth are Alduin and Kyne, for example, and the resemblence is mostly superficial (Kynereth is nature, Kyne is wind, Akatosh is benevolent leader dragon, Alduin is a world eater who likes to make Nords age 6  )

Anyways, I'd say the Bosmer are as bad off as the Altmer... One is mostly pure Aldmeris, the other is adapted for the same climate as Argonians.

The question is, how did the Dovakhiin bloodlines began? We know that they were blessed by the gods to have the soul of a dragon, but when and how did this happen? It might have started with one individual of each race being blessed, thereby making religion irrelevant. The player is just the remaining bloodline.

But if I have to name names, I'd go with any of the beast races, maybe even mer as well. Historically the Septims are the only known dragonborne, right? So that would make any other race highly unlikely to have been blessed, unless you go by my theory at least.

I think mostly Imperials, because they're just an unimpressive race to me over all. An Argonian dragon-born might be slightly redundant but my feelings point toward Imperial.

One thing directed at nobody in particular, just because something looks like a Dragon, doesn't mean that it fits well as a Dragonborn, or a Skyrimian, for that matter.

Agreed, Duruza.

Oh and it looks like my made-up word is catching on! 'Skyrimian'. Bethesda should hire me.

As far as we know, there is no bloodline, the Dovakiin is just the latest person to be blessed. Think of it like Morrowind's Nerevar Incarnations, none of them were related, but they still managed to fit the prophesy.

Otherwise, fighting the Draugr who were Dragonborn in life would be extremely awkward...*Dovakiin charges at Draugr* "PAPA?!" <insert Skywalker NOOOO>
