How many Hours?

Post by MattFlan »

Just interested to see how many hours this great game has kept you interested for.

For me, its 496 hours. I can see me getting to 525 before Skyrim, I'm right into it at the moment :D

How about you?

I never counted them, but probably well over 1000. That includes lots of time doing nothing or messing around with the construction set.
As a fan of both the medieval era and Lord of the Rings, I actually like the generic fantasy setting of Oblivion, even though Morrowind is more varied.
1000 hours sounds like a lot but Oblivion is one of the few games I played between 2006 and 2009.

Oh and I'm sure that you can get more than 29 hours before Skyrim is released :P

I've never really counted either, partially because a lot of my early Oblivion time was with friends, and because I've never really been one to use time as a checkpoint, more so accomplishments. I'd be interested in actually going to check though .

I also spend a fair amount more time surfing the web or simply reading up on, or thinking about the games, as odd as that might sound. In fact I've probably spent more time on the UESP and on other TES related sites, than I have on my primary Oblivion file, although I have many, many different characters (I've been spending more time on the forums than playing of late actually).

A few hundred I think. I often delete accounts I get bored of, so I have countless hours that I have whiled away that I have completely forgotten. A rough estimate would be 400 hours, possibly.

Over 300, probably nearer 400. I've had a few saves that I deleted so I don't know for sure

My longest game was something like 155 before I accidentally saved over it >.<

Since then, I've had at least one more game that long, half dozen or so that lasted into the 90's, and as many or more that spanned between 20 and 50 hours. All told, there's no way it's been fewer than 400... Damn.

That's a good question. I'll have to look. I play a good 4-5 hours everyday on my main so I'm sure I've played for more than 200.

Edit: I checked and I've played 106 hours so far on that character.

My last playthrough was approaching 600 hours (over nearly 2.5 years on and off) when I decided it was getting too boring being a Level 42 "superman" who could drill enemies clean through by farting in their general direction. I was hankering for the old days when I used to be a 7-stone weakling, so I restarted with a new character designed to be as wimpy as possible, with OOO installed to get rid of the "nursemaiding" effect where the game never throws enemies at you too difficult to handle.

I've just achieved Level 8 again and, believe me, it's been a wild ride getting there! OOO makes Oblivion much more Morrowind-like with some dungeons being LETHAL until you level up sufficiently, and throws occasional HARD enemies at you, even at Level 1. For example, I saw my first Land Dreugh at Level 2, first Minotaur at Level 5, and the Gargoyles (a type of super-Imp) are TOUGH! Up to Level 4, I had to stick to the roads tagging along behind mounted Legion Soldiers for protection. Yep. That's the reason Bethesda had them patrolling the roads, and now they're actually NEEDED!

Since I bought the game 5 years ago, this is my third character and I've only finished the Main Quest once. Total gameplay time is probably around 850 hours. I mean, 600 hours and maybe about 50% completion? Now THAT's replayability! Most action games deliver about 30 hours gameplay but you're "on rails" along for the ride and then the game gets shelved until you "forget" how the journey goes. Unfortunately, I have a good memory, so subsequent "journeys" never live up to the excitement of that first-time train-ride when the "scenery" was NEW to me. Morrowind and Oblivion deliver 100's of hours because you're NOT "on rails". You have the freedom to explore, do what you want, when you want and for as long as you want. You can roleplay your character, hunt Deer, go dungeon delving, collect weapons/armour, go on Alchemy ingredient collecting expeditions, etc. YOU create your own variety of experiences, so the game never gets boring. For me, that's the appeal of the Elder Scrolls series of RPG's that keeps me coming back for more.

Apologies for being off-line for a week, folks. My ADSL Router died on me and I've just had a new one delivered today. Yay! Back on broadband again!

I'm not even capable of answering that. I've played this game for so long that I can't even give you an estimate. I simply don't know.
