What a paradox we've got to deal with, then. I'm just so tired of fighting giant dragons, riding on their backs during the encounter in an attempt to make it feel epic. Hell, let Alduin be really small, shorter than our characters, that way people will underestimate him and get taken by complete surprise.
I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Re: Alduin
well for starters, dragons are already flying houses, so we need the end game boss to be larger. I am personally hoping for a height range of anywhere from fort size (the one we saw in the demo) to half of a mountain. I want to hear some earth-shaking roar, then a huge shadow casts by his wings alone as he dives bomb me.
And for emotions, really? He's a God, I think we're trying to give him too much of a personality. If you're a god, lets think it out, who are you responsible for? Your worshipers, they "worship" you, you don't owe them jack if you don't feel like it. So in the end anything goes for him, so which is why I want the haunting, demonic, Mean SOB-attitude.
Means hes not a mindless killing machine, just he finds it fun and also toys/manipulates your character as the story goes along. Like Gravemind in Halo.

Re: Alduin
That's just it though. If he's just a vehicle for the 'end of the world' narrative piece it'll just feel pointless. *Runs around doing things to prepare to defeat this dude* "Wait a second... Why am I doing this again? And why is HE trying to wreck shiz for us?" I would rather there's multiple layers to why and how this all goes down. Like he understands why you are who you are, the one that can try to stop him, and he understands why you would want to save this land, he just 'has' to do it because it's all he knows, or he's instructed to. Maybe he hates it because he's actually a really nice guy who would rather be at home watching DFL (Draconic Football League) rather than burning innocents to a crisp. He may be flying around killing people, weeping to himself because of how sad he is about it.
But seriously, I'd rather there were reasons for it all, and they go into those reasons in some detail, so we feel connected to the story, rather than just killing him because he's the enemy, and he's the enemy because he wants to kill us. If there's a dragon language, and we understand it, then perhaps we actually have a sit down with him and discuss our differences?
Al: "Yeah, look, look. I can see where you're coming from, but it's just that this is how it's always been, you know? It's what I do."
Dova: "Yeah, yeah I understand that and all, but I've really gotten to like this place. And even still, you have to see this isn't really nice."
Al: "You know, I have always felt guilty. I mean, just cause it's happened before doesn't mean it can't change... I don't even remember the reason we first started fighting..."
Dova: "It's okay. I don't blame you."
I'd actually like a diplomatic option where you can end it all peacefully and he leaves to go back wherever and the 'cycle' ends. I'm sure Beth can do it interestingly no matter what they've decided.

He doesn't look all that friendly, even when represented in an innocent PVC form. And "eating the world" seems like a pretty evil pastime to me.BillDAWG wrote:Alduin is the nordic version of akatosh, so i dont think he will be an enemy.

Re: Alduin
Oh I agree. Just like the Ragnarök, the end of the world isn't a 'bad' thing, just a thing. Aludin isn't evil, just the ender of worlds and the creator of new ones.
But as far as the game, he's the 'bad guy'.

I don't know about you but killing everyone DOES seem pretty evil to me. But then again I'm very sensitive about those kinds of things.OblivionDuruza wrote:Oh I agree. Yeah, but what I mean is, that the end of the world for the Norse, also brought new life (literally in a way).

Re: Alduin
Heh, too bad for the other ones who died, then. One has to wonder just HOW he'll go on about destroying the world.
I bet he sets the moon on fire. It's the perfect plan.

What's the purpose of foretelling the dovakiin if he doesn't do a damn thing?

Not changing this until Skyrim comes out, and even then, I'll probably be too busy... playing Skyrim...

Did you not hear the wise narrator of the trailer?
"But there is one they fear. In their tongue he is Dovakhiin. Dragonborn!"
Dovakhiin: "U, MAD, BRO?!"

Howabout this: You and your little army of people you've rallied together to fight Alduin get swallowed alive by him as he begins to Om-nom the world. you then have to rampage through his body cutting him up from the inside...
As for Alduin as a villain, I'm acutally would be okay with a mindless evil villain. I want the story to be mainly about intruige between the holds, Imperial/rebel friction, and trying to unite skyrim in order to stand a chance against alduin.
Kind of like Morrowind, now that I read that.

Re: Alduin
I'm hoping that Alduin is a mysterious villain, if a villain at all. Just because Alduin is believed to be the World Eater doesn't necessarily make it true, does it? That's just the way the people know him/her/it. If a dragon known as the World Eater returned after being absent for what I'm assuming are centuries, I would imagine that people would panic, civilization would start to collapse, and rumors would spread, even if the World Eater just spent its time sleeping on a pile of gold in some mountain cave somewhere. I'm hoping that the main quest involves learning about what Alduin is, whether a god or just an ancient dragon, what his/her relationship is with the other dragons we have seen that are hostile, where Alduin came from, what he/she wants, and most importantly, why he/she is doing whatever it is that he/she will be doing.
I'm curious, have we learned anything about Alduin's presence in this game other than the dragon language translation passage? Has there been any other information on the game's use of Alduin other than "Alduin, bane of kings / Ancient shadow unbound / With a hunger to swallow the world"?
