Have you introduced someone to TES?
My boyfriend came to my place last night and it lead to me introducing him to TES IV: Oblivion. He made a grey-skinned Bosmer with pink hair and lips like a prostitute, but when he started playing he was actually really good!
I was just amazed at the fact that on his first time playing he did so well. He took the whole main quest very seriously and avenged the daedra (which he pronounced "dad-raah") when they killed his companion (Ilend Vonius) in Oblivion. Later he told me he felt it was truly his duty to help Martin save Tamriel from Mehrunes Dagon. Needless to say that earned him a big kiss
Anyhoo my question is have you ever introduced someone to TES and what did they think about it?

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I was introduced by a friend (who I still play Oblivion with). He actually gave me Oblivion for PC because he's more of a PS3 gamer. Since then my love of the series has only grown, surpassing his. I spend a lot of time reading up things on the web, mainly on the UESP, and I put a lot of thought into it. He actually plays more, but we have very different styles.
I myself introduced the series to my brother, who's still playing it alongside me. We have a lot of fun together, but I can get a little bossy if I think he's doing something wrong
. Stuff like, "you know you really should get around to repairing that armour, it's no use to you broken
". Even so, I find it fascinating just to watch someone else play the game their own way, doing things completely different to me. That's the thing I love about the Elder Scrolls, it really is your game.

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I spent a year trying to get my boyfriend to play oblivion on xbox 360, every time I knew he was coming over I would put it on and play it in front of him and telling him how AMAZING it is. I thought he would listen to me because we love the same games and such. But he never seem interested...So about a year and a half later for xmas he gets a ps3 because his xbox broke from RROD and we are in blockbusters looking at cheap games. I saw Obilivon GOTY for £20 and thought "here's my chance..." and begged him to get it because it would be worth his money. We get to his house he puts it on and continued playing it solidly for two years. My job was complete
He regretted not getting it the year previous and I asked him a few weeks ago why he never listened to me the first time with me showing him the game and he said " it looked like all you did was standing around" So i guess showing the sneaking part and following NPCs wasn't the best bit to go on.
EDIT: i just remembered my sister basically introduced me to Oblivion since she bought it for herself when we got our first xbox. I saw her playing it and I fell in love with it. I then just took over the game and the xbox then continued to play it whenever I could.

A hero can be anyone, even a man doing some as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended.

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I first saw Oblivion when I was over at my friend's house, and he was wandering around Dunbarrow Cove, before showing me around the wild and wonderful world of Cyrodiil. Of course, though, I was massively confused when I rushed out, bought the game, and tried to get into Smuggler's Cove. Despairing over the Very Hard locked door. After hours of trial and error, I finally got in... And the damn tunnel wasn't there! Whereupon good 'ol UESP told me it was a plugin...
Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I told my girlfriend about it. Still need to give her a copy of oblivion.

I was introduced by my mate, just after Oblivion was released, and ever since then I have loved the elder scrolls franchise! Me and my friend kinda drifted apart and now I have different mates, and I got them into it! sold two more copies of Oblivion for you, Bethesda!

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I was first introduced by my cousin I watched him play a few times and it was okay then I saw a 20$ Oblivion in some drug store ( ahaha) and then I gave it a shot; my brother willing to play everything I play became as much as me into the game and then my drummer whom I thought played ''stupid'' games bought the game under my influence and now we're doing marathons of it !
now remains my guitarist who just finds the game ''long'' and something like ''the combat system is just too simple'' of course Oblivion is more of a game that you need to play and experience to get because just watching someone is simply not what the game is meant to be.. though Skyrim seemed to have innovated in that aspect
oh yes I'm gonna force my girlfriend to watch me play for hours now !

I've introduced around 4 friends to it, but they're not as keen as I am, and don't really visit these forums, although they visit the wiki of they need to look something up

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I was talking (probably rambling) on about TES to my friends... I don't remember what I was telling them about but one of them interrupted me and asked, "WHO COMES UP WITH THIS?"
Out of instinct I instantly responded: Todd Howard...
TO THIS DAY, They still make fun of me for being some stupid video game geek........ lol they were laughing so hard...

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I was introduced to TES when my brother got Morrowind. I was a little too young to be any good at it, but it was a fun experience. With Oblivion, I've also tried showing it to my friends. One of them caught on immediately and eventually got a copy for himself. It was very painful for me to watch him play, however, because he played the game at a slow pace, and did some things I found quite pointless (like actually shooting arrows at the targets in Chorrol, even though I told him it's pointless). Another tried it, but he'd never played an rpg before, and wasn't very good at it. The problem is, most of my friends are Gears of War and Modern Warfare gamers. They admit that the Skyrim trailer is pretty sweet, but to them, its only, at best, going to be the second best game of the fall, behind GoW3. I'm hoping that just a few of them give it a shot...

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
Let's see, my sister, who got killed by a pirate and never played again, and my friend, who killed random travelers and got killed by the guard. He's more interested in Fallout.

Ring-a-ding, baby.

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
I once played it at a friend, I think not long after it was released for the PC, and I loved it. I made an Argonian, I think, and since that day I liked the game, not playing it anymore 'till 2009 or 2010, I think, when I got the game myself.
I think I've kinda introduced a friend of mine to TES, and he plays Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and asked me whether I knew any games like that, and then Oblivion came to my mind.

Me: "So, how did you get this rich?"
Random Jarl: "I'm the Jarl and so were my father, grandfather, and his father. How about you?"
Me: "I've just spent some days chopping wood."

Re: Have you introduced someone to TES?
My dad turned my brother and I into TES geeks, until my brother spouted out it was blasphemous and sinful (wtf?). I know one TES geek in real life, and his dad turned him.
I've tried to get my IRL friends to play it, but their systems suck too much. So I'm about to send them a link to the Daggerfall and Arena downloads on the TES site. That'll probably work, no?
