I agree i want to have genuinely dangerous slums I mean in Bravil and the waterfront yeah they where slums but you didn't have that feel I want to feel like the place is a real slum I want to see like skooma dealers, skooma junkies, thugs, rats, murderers, people passed out on the ground or dead on the ground and I want it to look like a slum delapitaded buildings falling off shingles alleys with trash in it I want to see people dumping their garbadge from their windows, Kids gambling in alleys just little stuff that makes it feel real so if you are a good character you feel like you don't belong and hurry through that part of town but if your a pickpocket, thief, thug, or assassin you feel right at home and might even buy a house their.slack90 wrote:good question, i would like to see more economic diversity besides just the waterfront district and to go into much greater detail.

I would love slums up to nobles sections in the cities. I want to walk through the slums and see starved and sick people, and possibly get mugged. Drug dealers on the streets, random sword fights and very few guards. When I enter the high class area I want many guards and even bodyguards among the srteets. Well-fed men and women in the finest silks and the rare time when a poor man trys to pickpocket a wealthy young man and also, see him dragged to the jail.

I imagine the slums will be a "step down" [step up] from Oblivion, so to say. But as to being on par with Bangkok factory ghettos, I dunno, but I hope so.

Re: Slums in Skyrim
Yeah I'd also like to see criminal guilds in these slums that are joinable like maybe names like the red fist guild or something and have two warring criminal guilds maybe one is native to skyrim and the other one is the commona tong and like the native skyrim one is trying to defend it's turf against outsiders also there would bea few types of people in the slums the working class who usually have a small house or none and are struggling to keep food on the table then the criminals who are doing bad but not as bad then you would have the leaders of the criminal guilds who would live in the nice part of town but spend alot of time in the slums to check on things then you would have the homeless beggars, but back to the criminal guilds you should be able to join one and start of as just a pickpocket then maybe extortioner then skooma dealer then murderer then become 2nd in command and people should in the slums should react to you diffrently and treat you with respect if you are a criminal guild leader, also I would like to see it full of disease like it's very likely to catch a disease while your there,oh and brothel's that would make since, and for the architecture I would want it to be like bravil shacks stacked upon eachother but I would like little things like hearing alot of cursing from npcs in this area and hear screams and breaking glass also I want to see dead bodies in alleys and alot of fights between npc's and drunk people stumbling around and the roads should be just dirt not paved I also want to see people in the slums looking dirty like with grime and dirt on them and scars and I want to see people gambling in alleys people getting beat in alleys even killed. Now for races I'd want to see mojority khajit and argonian then 2nd have dark elf's Nord's and orc's then throw in all the other races

Re: Slums in Skyrim
I think Skyrim needs slums. At least one city should have a slum, and I mean a real slum, so not like the waterfront, but just a really hopeless, rundown, poor area. I can only quote the others that have replied to this topic, because I want to see the same.
And I would like to see the Skyrim slums as a dirty, poor place, with houses that can collapse any time now, made out of bad quality wood and other cheap materials. I think the houses of Bravil and Imperial City Waterfront are good for this, but must jsut look a tad more dirty, rundown, etc. If it's like that I'm happy.

Me: "So, how did you get this rich?"
Random Jarl: "I'm the Jarl and so were my father, grandfather, and his father. How about you?"
Me: "I've just spent some days chopping wood."

Re: Slums in Skyrim
I hope to see more dynamic factors relating to the economy system they have brought in (although they have not disclosed how much the economy can be manipulated). Yes I think there should be slums already, but doing other things such as sabotaging the farms or wood-mill in a city should see those slums get progressively worse (or better) depending on how you act or others do.
I think that would add another dimension to the immersion factor, but yet again, they have not disclosed how expansive the econommy really is beyond affecting what merchants are able to sell.

Re: Slums in Skyrim
What I am really interested in is the economy as well. They said if you trash a lumber mill prices for things would go up. I know tamriel has slums since its talked about in the lore. In the port city, it would be natural to have slums since its a port city, not a fishing village. so castles, houses, shops, and economic buildings. They should through in some gang warfare as well. But I am also interested in how exactly you would "trash" an economic building like a lumber mill. Like could you set it on fire? kill the owner and take over? Do they rebuild it over time or is destruction permanent? what happens if you kill a whole town is it essentially dead for that file? and sooooooo many more questions...

This talks about how solitude is an extremely wealthy city, meaning its going to be big, and diverse seeing as they get ships of all kinds. Plus on the Dev's wall pic floating around its showing to be the center for the empire during the civil war taking place meaning that it *should* be bustling to the point of almost overcrowding.

Like the Hood? In Skyrim?
Full of crazed bloodthirsty uneducated orcs?
Sharing the same skooma bottles?
Under-priviledged communities?
Higher Crime Rates in those Areas?
A few wealthy successful crime figures?
Corrupt Imperial Legion?
An Orc Named Scarface?

So your saying most likely there will be a slum there since it's the largest city?slack90 wrote:http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solitude

That'd be cool if there was an argonian named Scar-Face because the name would actually be realistic lolHatofMadness wrote:Like the Hood? In Skyrim?

Re: Slums in Skyrim
It allows for more economic importance, and its not necessarily that its beside the sea per se, but the sum of being an economic powerhouse(meaning it needs a large worker base) but also the imperial center, with solders, royalty, merchants, dock workers, sailors on leave, etc. Stands to reason that a slum in a city of this size would be fairly large and unruly.Assassin540 wrote:Thanks why would being by the sea make it more slummy?POMC S117 wrote:A beside the sea.

Its talked about in the lore as being old and very wealthy, and I was talking about how it could be a prime place to put a slum and to integrate it into the game.

Because of immigration, exploitation, bad pay, long working hours, storms and rich people that tax too much.Assassin540 wrote:Thanks why would being by the sea make it more slummy?POMC S117 wrote:A beside the sea.

Re: Slums in Skyrim
Yea since the Imperial city tried that exactly, but since skyrim is going to be more epic it stands to reason that the waterfront/slum will be also. I just hope I can buy a house in the city that's NOT in the slum this time if my character is a snobbish noble or something.
