Mages Guild expelled glitch?

Post by AddictedtoMorrowind »

Alright, so I was sleeping in the Mages guild in Balmora, when suddenly An Ash Zombie attacked me. I fired a big area spell at it and didn't notice Estirdalin standing close to where the Ash Zombie was standing. It killed the Zombie but also killed Estirdalin, and so I was expelled. Now, I went to Trebonius and wanted to make amends, but I already activated the "Meet me in the arena" dialogue. So now I kill him in the arena, and so I used the console cheat "PcClearExpelled"Mages Guild" to clear my expelled status. Although I have Mages guild services again, I can't complete quests. For example, I tried to complete the quest where you find a rare book by Galur Rithari about vampirism cause and cure, and Skink-in-Tree said that I was expelled and had to make amends, even though my character menu says I'm not. And Trebonius is already dead, so what do I do?

I was thinking that too, but right after I killed Estirdalin, I pressed Esc and thought I was going to load that saved game before I slept. But actually, I pressed the "Save" button instead of the "Load" button, so that sucks.

You could go to Trebonius' body and use the console to execute a 'Resurrect' command.

But before you do that, have you waited 30 days since your expulsion?

But addicted said that he did that in the OP, but that he still continued to have problems. Perhaps you didn’t execute the command correctly addicted?

I haven't waited 30 days since the incident, so maybe that'll clear my bad name.

I'm pretty sure I executed the command correctly, because the character menu says I'm the Arch-Mage of the Mages Guild.

I resurrected Trebonius but the dialogue says "Meet me in the arena" in red, so that's what I'll have to do. I then resurrected him lots of times to get his Necromancer's Amulet and Trebonius's Staff. I'll be rich, I think.

Perhaps waiting 30 days will fix things. I hope so.

Just on resurrecting Trebonius, you can probably use the console to remove the topic you're talking about, and gain access to his full dialogue options, but I'm not sure how exactly to do that at this point.

I'll just wait 30 days. I'm too lazy to find out how to gain access to his dialogue options. What happens when you get expelled and try to make amends? Does he ever refuse you or anything?

I guess so, just wait 30 days or 10 in the Mages Guild (I didn't mention that earlier because it adds another level of complexity to the issue - particularly because I doubt you had spent all your time after expulsion in the Mages Guild, in this instance).

Anyway, best of luck!

Oh noez! Alright, so I waited 15 days in the Mages Guild (Balmora), and I still couldn't complete the quests. It still says "You have been expelled" when I try to complete some quests. Any thoughts on this?

I was reading some other forums as background research on your question, and it was said that killing Trebonius and becoming Ach-Mage clears your expelled status. Perhaps the console command you tried to execute did not work because you were supposed to be cleared of your expulsion anyway? :? Have you tried the command again? What does your stats page say in relation to the guild and how are the members interacting with you at present?

Killing Trebonius clears your expelled status? I don't know about that. I have tried the command many times. my status page says I am Arch-Mage of the guild, and members give me the services of a member, but I just can't complete any quests.

Then something has gone pretty wrong, as you normally don't get offered services when you're expelled. Perhaps you could try adding the first journal entry for the next quest you need, and seeing if that brings you back into the loop? Save first, because you never know how the console may screw up your game, and you may even want to check the CS, under journal enetries in the dialogue section. What was the next quest? Or the last you completed? I might be able to help you find the correct console command.

Also, on becoming Arch-Mage, that's the advice others were given on the same problem on other forums, to kill Trebonius and become Arch-Mage to clear the expelled status, but I myself have never tested that out.

Well, it's not like it's a big problem, since I'm about to kill Dagoth Ur and the Mages Guild still offers me services. I'm about finished with all the Mages Guild quests anyway (I also have about 131209 gold, it's not like I need an extra 500 drakes or an amulet). I guess if I want to fix this problem, I should probably just kill Estirdalin again (then resurrect her) and wait 10 days in the Mages Guild.

I guess you could try that, I'm sort of stumped on this one at the moment (hard to tell what to do without actually being there :|). I guess if you're not too worried about it, but still, it'd be nice to find a resolution.

All the best with it anyway , I guess the lesson is, 'save, save, save!'
