As Winston Churchill once said, "It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations".
I myself read said books, and consider myself a wealth of knowledge on appropriate quotes.
It struck me that although there is a thread for favourite Oblivion Quotes, I think it'd be good for you guys to share your own favourite quotes and the ways in which they affect you. Discuss!
I have so many, that I probably couldn't find just one quote that I like best, however my latest favourite I believe shall suffice, an exert from "The Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss:
"There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man."
The books themselves of the "King Killer Chronicles" explain such apparently strange fears, but that is why the wise would fear them.
"Go to hell, Carolina!"
"If a tree falls in the forest, but I'm not there, and I don't hear it, but someone records it and plays it back to me at a dinner party, am I still in the forest?"

"The point of war isn't to die for your country, it's to make the other [@#$%] die for his.
I'll try and abide by that one
"Go to hell, Carolina!"
"If a tree falls in the forest, but I'm not there, and I don't hear it, but someone records it and plays it back to me at a dinner party, am I still in the forest?"
"Never doubt the power of a small group of committed people to change the world, for truly, it is the only thing that ever has."
I don't really know who said it, i heard ages ago. I might have forgotten, but how likely is that to happen?
Ah, I am a bit of a quote fanatic - I collect them by the dozens! However, one of my favorites of all time has been this:
Kurt Vonnegut wrote:Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God.
I think it's a very nice thing to keep in mind, that life is an adventure, and what happens...happens. It's how I live!
I'm also a fan of something I said to someone once in a conversation: I may not burn bridges, but I sure as hell don't drive in reverse. I think it says a lot about my personality, in that I extend a lot of patience and tolerance to people, but when I've had enough, I've had enough. Let that cross your mind next time you want to be a sassy pants on the forum, eh?
Huzzah!

I have so many that I memorized, but here's some of my favorites.
"It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it" ~George Carlin
"A child-like man is not a man whose development has been arrested; on the contrary, he is a man who has given himself a chance of continuing to develop long after most adults have muffled themselves in the cocoon of middle-aged habit and convention." ~Aldous Huxley
"I don't know if I'm cool or not, but I'm incredibly resilient to any attempt to make me think I'm uncool." ~Terrence McKenna
And then, you know, there's this.
"The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey -- don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride..."
And we... kill those people.
"Shut him up."
"We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real."
Just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one.
Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defences each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace."
~Bill Hicks
"One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic" -attributed to Joseph Stalin.
"I do not see why man should not be as cruel as nature," and "If you tell a big enough lie tell it frequently enough, it will be believed."- Adolf Hitler.
"A pint of sweat saves a gallon of blood."- General George S. Patton.
"It is well war is terrible, lest we should grow too fond of it."- General Robert E. Lee.
"Don't fight a battle, if you don't gain anything by winning."- Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
"Terror is only justice: prompt, severe and inflexible; it is then an emanation of virtue."- Maximilian Robespierre.
I like good old military and political quotes.
Innocence proves nothing.- The Inquisition, Warhammer 40k
"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird"
~Atticus Finch
If not, then:
"Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the new world, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."
I thought it would be fun to see what everyone's favourite quote is This quote can be anything from a film, book, game or a real person etc. But don't just tell us what... tell us why!
My favourite quote is probably
"When prayers turn to promises, not even fate can stand in their way. We held the light of hope in our hearts, and achieved the impossible" Final fantasy XIII
I guess its just something i believe in really. You can't just pray for something to happen. When you promise, and i mean a real promise not one you make to your parents to get them off your back, you'll do anything to make it come true...and if you have hope then you really can achieve the impossible
