I've been keeping up with these previews and, well... is anybody else starting to get the sneaking suspicion that Skyrim will be pushed back from the original 11/11/11 release date? A few of the previews said that Skyrim still felt "rough around the edges, literally", and with the release (which includes manufacturing the discs, shipping them to stores all over North America, and a great number of other things) date being less than three months away, it seems like anything in the game should be almost completely polished by now. I say this because the same thing happened with Oblivion; the original release date was November 16, right in line with the Xbox 360 launch. As it turned out, however, Oblivion was pushed back until March 20, 2006. If I had to call it right now, I'd say that Skyrim will be pushed back until early next year at least.

Unless, of course, Bethesda is unwilling to sacrifice their "cool" release date and chooses to release an inferior product that they will subsequently patch after the complaint floodgate opens...

Oblivion was pushed back because they hadn't received the specs for the 360 until there was only 4 months left in production time. It was a major slow-down.

I suppose the only reason they didn't just go ahead and release the PC version on time and then release the 360 version in the Spring is because Oblivion was really the first ES game that tried to capture the full range of the gaming market, PC and consoles alike. And there's no way Bethesda is giving up that 11/11/11 date. It's too damn catchy.

Plus, they can continue working until 11/11/11 and past, while shipping the game a few weeks early. All they have to do is require a patch on install of the game. More and more games seem to be doing this...

Yeah, that's what I've been saying. They would rather patch it than give up that nifty release date. But all I'm saying is that this isn't just isolated to Oblivion. They said the same thing about Morrowind, promising a Fall 2001 release date, and then pushed it back until March 2002.
