Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
Me personally I think the Dark Brotherhood has better armour and has better sneak tactics because they cannot be seen the Morag Tong can because they're legal

Assassin, you need to stop double posting, it's getting excessive (you shouldn't be doing it to begin with), if you need to add something to your post just hit the edit button in the lower-right-hand and add to your post

It's okay, just warning you before the mods get ahold of you
On topic: I'm inclined to say Morag Tong because they seem more professional and well trained versus the DB which seems more like a gathering of like-minded people who just plain enjoy killing and worshiping Sithis, like a proper cult

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
No problem, this is the point of the "day" that not a lot member are on...at least for until our Aussie and NZ buddies come on...
Back to topic, I see the Morag Tong as a more beefy assassin, relying more on technique and strength instead of stealth to kill their targets, I'd imagine that prior to Morrowind's tragedy, the MT were better armed being publicly funded and able to do business normally, instead of shady dealings...

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
I think when it comes down to hand to hand combat we got you though because Morag Tong is majority Dunmer and let's face it a 250 pound orc against a 130 pound Dunmer Orc is gonna win so i'd give upperhand to DB close up hand to hand
I'd have to disagree though the Dark Brotherhood kill with a passion and at the same time for money and remember for them to get in they have to kill someone in cold blood so they are completely desensetized to killing but then again i'll have to look up lore for Morag Tong cause I don't know a whole lot about them

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
There are Orcs in the MT and other races as well...and the DB is an offshoot of the MT to begin with...
And orcs are hardly the 'default' demographic for either faction

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
True True but im just saying DB more diversity they have almost every race at their disposle where the MT is 95 percent Dunmer i'd say.
Being diverse you have alot of advantages because of course each race is best at something so when you bring all thos diffrent fighting styles together it's unstoppable
I also think that from looking at lore like you said your more of a beefy assassin used to just walking up and executing somebody I think that the DB's stealth tactics would definetly catch the MT of guard and you have to remember you recruit honorable men who most likely are from good homes and all that to where DB recruit's some of the poorest people who have lived in the slums and have grown up around violence so it's nothing to them to my knowledge anyway.

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
Yes, but this isn't an open war, this is assassination. The power of the individual is more important than gathered might.
MT agents are used to dealing with targets from all walks of life (Hlaalu, Redoran, Telvanni, etc.) unlike the DB, who may or may not be killing difficult targets...I'd say there have been some powerful individuals in the DB, but they aren't what the average brother is like. The DB are open to any contract, so most will be minor ones (remember your character in Oblivion got a rank few achieve, given the honor of assassinating major targets). Also we know the two factions have been fighting wherever they meet, but the DB try to recruit (or if not, kill) MT agents...in Morrowind, you are sent to kill the Night Mother on Vvardenfel and wipe out most traces of the DB on the island...

Fire and Darkness seems to suggest that the MT sold out, which is why i say the DB could take em:

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
"Selling out" is exactly what makes them different from their child faction, they no longer steep their training in the occult and bloodlust (as much).
They still worship Mephala (and to a lesser extent Sithis), but they are a guild first and a faith second.
Regardless, it seems like I am alone in my defense of the Tong

Yes I think DB has more motivation to kill because most of the time the DB is literally their only family so that motivates them they also have sithis and gold to motivate them MT only has gold they have no passion it's just a job to them

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
I would have to disagree with how you said they just leave their members to dry I mean if you really look at the DB they are a brotherhood alot of them don't have real families so to them the DB is their family and MT actually does not have the Empire on their side but they do have Morrowind on their side

Re: Dark brotherhood vs Morag Tong
Actually the Morag Tong are only legal in Morrowind, and are a Dunmer-based organization.
This does not mean, however, that they can not go outside of Morrowind (specifically Vvardenfell without Tamriel Rebuilt mod). The only thing that keeps them from doing so is not much legal then as they are strictly legal due to the Armistice.
Without that, they become illegal with Ancestor worship, Great Houses, and so forth.
But the Morag Tong's "international scale" has proved that they are basically the best-of the best. The Morag Tong single-handedly defeated the Reman Empire by killing off every single member of the Reman dynasty. This saved Morrowind for the time being, and proved the capability of the Morag Tong in general.
But for the Dark Brotherhood, it is not so much a 'family' as it is a group of individuals whom kill for various reasons. It's not like the Morag Tong where there is one true faith (faith in the Daedra Lord Mephala whom birthed them, taught them, cared for them); as Sithis is vague. Not every member worships him, knows what he is, or even cares.
Some just care about killing and for the money.
(This is going with both Daggerfall's DB and Oblivion's DB) While the Morag Tong actually has a code of honor, set of rules to keep them both an assassin guild but one that is respectable.
The DB rules are only relating to not having a civil-war within itself. That and the Black Hand is extremely paranoid and not efficient. (Purification of an entire guild-hall, killing a die-hard Speaker, and basically being killed by a guy whom is more so a insane mama's boy isn't the best..you know organization)
Sure I still loved the quest-line but the Morag Tong doesn't leave you to die if you fail or dis-obey. DB it's a "if you fail, we don't know you, you don't know us, you die or live". Morag Tong protects you with the writs, in case you do cause trouble or fail.
EDIT: That and as Chaos said, The Morag Tong really transformed from a Daedric-cult of Assassins to a respectable guild of Assassins. They accept only legal contracts, and are mostly used in forms of vengeance or House-Wars. But to them; its really about keeping stability in Morrowind if it comes to House-War contracts and maintaining ones honor for other contracts.
You don't see the Morag Tong killing Nord girls.

And also c'mon they where family like the mafia but when it came down to it the organization was more important so they had to have a whole sanctuary whacked off because someone was a traitor sound familiar c'mon this is all mafia characteristics im not saying the MT is weak or anything we fight a very diffrent battle and have a very diffrent organization ours is juts more Mafia like it's cold hard facts you can't argue.Assassin540 wrote:Not really because they're legal and most of the DB have rough backrounds and the DB is their (family) I mean c'mon you couldn't see a connection (The Black Hand) they welcome you into their (family) they're an underground organization that rules through intimadation bribery and murder c'mon now the MT yes is very cool and I repect what your saying but when it comes to mafia the DB's got you they are very similar to italian american mafia they are to very diffrent organizations one is illegal and underground DB and one is legal but very secretive.Velothi wrote:The Dark Brotherhood is just an assassins cult, nothing more and nothing less.

Not really. Neither of them are like the Mafia. The Mafia is an organization of criminals who seek to make money themselves. They don't fullfill contracts, nor are they a sect.
