I like doing things like that, making circles in a square world, I think I just got an idea for another creation for my videos!
How does this sound, a massive circular pit in the ground, with rooms off the side and walkways connecting it all. It would need some sort of central pillar (another circle) and at the bottom could be a massive lava pool.
Weasel, I'm sure we shall, when I can get on the server properly, last night it was unplayable for me but it was probably Scottish failnet doing what it does best!

Diamonds are from level 19 downwards, lava pools start at level 12 or 11. My mining technique is a straight line at level 12, its safe because when you come across lava you are always one block above it. These pools are always surrounded by natural caves, natural cave > lots of exposed rock > more ore for less mining. Just remember to take a bucket of water to make a "bridge" of obsidian across the lava pools.

Oh, and if you want to mine the Obsidian, you need a Diamond pick. Obsidian can be used to make portals to the Nether. The Nether kind of looks like Oblivion.

It would have to have zero lag, PvP just isn't fun when your standing hacking at a frozen person for 30 seconds only for them to materialize behind you and kill you with one hit.
