Re: QuakeCon - New Info

Post by River »

Ok this is with much thanks to Grimdeath from the Bethesda forums. Who was actually at quake com! Here is what he saw: link to source.

Edit: he also adds later on!!! "-Todd made it a point to confirm the Dark Brotherhood are in. He then opened a note (animated unfolding) that displays a black handprint and the text "we know"
So Dark brotherhood confirmed!!

Ok here the main bit:
"Hey guys, I was one of the lucky few to make it into QuakeCon. Better yet I had priority acces and ended up in the front row, center for the presentation. Photos before the show:

https://plus.google....sts/JG7mteJG3uY

Pete before the presentation:
-Part 1: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=8-yt-dv9LkE
-Part 2: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=e6mQGvNZjBo

Enough of that, here's what I saw...(sorry we could not film during the presentation!)

Ok so basically it was the E3 demo but this was played live (no cuts) so we got to see an extended edition and some great new things. Todd started in the same road as the other presentation to many many cheers from the audience. He did stop when the fox ran by as the crowd was demanding blood and for him to kill it. He chased after it for a moment but lost it. He continued down, killed the wolves and kept going. This time it didn't jump to the town but rather he walked a bit further on the path. Folks yelled for him to jump in the water so he did. It ripples similar to morrowind/oblivion. We also got to see fish jumping in the stream next to where he entered. A bit further down the path he was attacked by a bow wielding guy...most likely a Bosmer, he had the swooped back hair. He struck me as more masculin then previous Bosmer in the series! He then continued on to the first town, walked past a dark elf and a (nord?) lady talking and then talked to the smith near the forge same as E3. He then walked around town a bit (this is new) he pointed out a tavern and walked around the left side of town. He came across two nord children talking next to a dog. The kids look great and the voices were appropriate, I missed what they said though (sorry!). Todd then shows us the inventory with a couple cool new details:

-He shows books which zoom in and open (very awesome!) and changing pages has a page flip animation.
-He shows the magic/dragon shout mentu which has circular animated particle effects for each spell. Mages should be thrilled here!
-The Dragon Shouts list three numbers, most likely seconds for cool downs for each word. One of them was something like 80, 150, 200 but each one was different.

Next he left town by jumping on a horse, he showed the throat of the mountain and all of this was the same as E3. He then continued up the path to a new section where he used a detect life and frenzy spell at a small black tower/fort looking building (very cool structure!). He was too far to see the npc he cast frenzy on but that npc ran into the building and was swiftly killed by the NPC inside. Todd briefly paused to shoot his bow as this NPC (an Orc!). Continuing on a bit further on foot he came to Bleakwood Barrows and the dragon there took flight like E3. The dragon didn't follow the same path this time and actually hovered in the air flapping his wings and shooting fire for a bit. He then landed at the same place in the E3 demo as Todd ran inside.

Inside the dungeon was mostly the same, steath killing the two bandits (redguards?). He picked off the female first after they were done talking about the golden claw quest (which starts the questline via a text popup). Going on he dispatched two Skeever (rats) with a ice trap on the ground. He then came to the giant spider fight which was actually kind of scary. You cut webs to enter the room and the music changes for the fight (the music was amazing throughout btw!). The spider dropped in from the ceiling and the fight went on. It took quite a large amount of damage to kill even with Todd's souped up stats. He finally dispactched it and came to the Dunmer caught in the web. The old Dunmer gruff voice is back and sounds great as it did in Morrowind. The Dunmer takes off after being free'd, while saying "You fool, I'll never share the treasure" or something like that. The kill animation doesn't play this time so it's not a guaranteed thing I suppose! He just dies and ragdolls with a swipe from Todd.

Todd continues on and proceeds to kill a few undead draughr(spelling?) the same as E3...there's an iron gate trap that swings back and forth that I never noticed in the E3 trailers. My memory is getting a bit fuzzy here but Todd then proceeds to jump through the traps using the Whirlwind Sprint shout and down a couple caveways killing the draughr in the E3 trailer. Again the kill animations are not trigged in the same place so it's not a scripted thing. Todd finally ends up in the Dragon Priest / Word Wall room and this goes down about the same as E3...he finally makes it to the exit which has a 20-30 second load screen (this is running on Xbox). It was the same load tie to load into the dungeon as well.

He's then on the large open tundra with the mammoths and giants. People yell for him to fight them which he does like the trailer. The dragon then swoops in and picks up the giant. We get to see him fall a bit longer though and it seems like he is less "floaty" falling this time. The dragon battle goes on for a LONG while...there were several cuts in the E3 trailer. The dragon does not fallow the same paths flying and lands in different places then he did in E3. The dragon does not eat the guard but rather knocks him down with a bite...kinda cool :) Todd finished him off and moves on to the Frost Dragon...this all goes along very similar to the E3 trailer. I will say the dragon kill animation rocks to see in person. It's long but very brutal and was meet with huge cheers from the crowd.

Finally Todd announced the Collectors Edition, it includes the game, making of DVD, big map, a huge book of concept art, and a 1 foot tall statue of Alduin (Todd name checks him!). Pictured here:

Pictures of before and after coming soon via edit, more details as possible. We could not film during the presentation unfortunatly but there were camera crews there. Hopefully bootleg footage comes soon!

Feel free to ask me anything guys!

*edit*
Todd when through all skills. Pickpocketing is confirmed as a skill! It was shown on the Constellation skill menu.

You have made me very VERY happy. Thank you kind sir. I am rather dissappointed about pickpocketing being a skill however, I feel this slot required something else... bigger. But who am I to judge :P

I guess if you know its a poisoned apple you know what effect it has! And if you don't then, yeah you should have to eat it! Because thats the point of a poisoned apple! Your not supposed to know its poisoned!

From the German GamePro article:
So, approaching the city gate, he sees three men standing around a dead giant they obviously killed, and coming closer a huntress called Alea tells the player he had come too late to prove his braveness. I can guess that the conversation system has been way improved in Skyrim compared to Oblivion. From what I can tell coversations seem a lot more real and offer a lot more possiblities. Because the gamers had a limited amount of time to play the game they decided not to talk too much to the woman, and instead of that they leave the small conversation and reach the city gates, where some guards make clear that it's difficult to enter cities at night in Skyrim. You apparently have to prove that you have serious business going on to be allowed to enter the city gates; Which you can achieve by chosing a reasonable option in the dialog window, trying to lie by saying you had a special task to fulfill. However, you could also try to bribe the guards or just kill them.

I just read at G4.com that Nords are 50% resistant to fire? Dont know if this had been brought up yet. Sorry if it's old news.

Dennis Mejillones, one of the devs, confirmed that that is a typo. They are resistant to frost, not fire.

I suspect it might be a 'viral' leak. Its clearly filmed on a proper camera on a tripod.

yes, but its obnoxious. as the first speaker said, they'll post that video themselves in hd, so...wait till then.
it'll be better that way anyway.
Not changing this until Skyrim comes out, and even then, I'll probably be too busy... playing Skyrim...

Re: QuakeCon - New Info

yet another QuakeCon hands on preview - this one by French website JeuxVideo.fr

Source: http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/jeux/the-elder- ... kyrim.html

Some highlights

Dual Casting Perk: it seems that you are only able to dual cast spells after you get a dual casting perk:
"mais on peut aussi thésauriser afin que notre magie destructive soit suffisamment haute pour nous permettre de prendre le dual casting qui permet de lancer des sorts avec les deux mains"
This seems quite odd, as I cannot fathom which magic skill it would be associated with dual casting.

Jarl of Whiterun: Also, the name of the Jarl of Whiterun has been revealed: JARL BALGRUUF
"Une carte qui permet de rapidement se retrouver et de prendre le chemin de Whiterun afin d'informer le Jarl Balgruuf que des dragons ont été observés dans les environs."

Quests from Hilde and Sven: There are numerous quests you can pick up in the Riverwood tavern, or when speaking with Hilde and Sven (the mother and son arguing about dragons in the E3 demo when you enter Riverwood)
La vieille Hilde prétend avoir aperçu un dragon, mais son fils (Sven) la croit folle. Ce même Sven rencontre des difficultés dans sa relation avec la belle Camilla alors qu'un prétendant aux oreilles pointues veut tout gâcher.
Hilde claims to have seen a dragon, but Sven thinks his mother is nuts. Meanwhile Sven is too shy to deliver a letter to his sweetheart and asks for the PC's help. However there is a third party involved in this matter, an elf who wants to ruin everything (this seems to be the same letter that the Italian journalist delivered)

Riverwood Tavern Quests:

About these quests:
  • there are some warriors looking for volunteers to join their clan
  • other quests involving small jobs we can do for the quest giver
  • even the small quests involve a few steps
  • in the case of Sven's quest, it's possible to go directly to Camilla to deliver the letter or talk with the elf first
  • within three minutes he had collected a lot of quests

Not everyone can read in French you realise.

I'll post my own translations, but it may take a while because I'll have to double check a few words.

I'm excited about this 'Clan' though.

Also, the French guy on the trailer video sounds a billion times cooler than the English
