Can you give gold to an NPC through the console?
I'd really like to be able to give Creeper or Mudcrab Merchant a ton of gold and just sell my loot to them without trading back and forth for smaller things.
Is this at all possible? I've looked through the console commands, but I'm hoping somebody knows about something I missed, maybe.

Alternatively to the Console, there may be some other options for you to choose.
Here are some general tips from the UESP for selling expensive items that you might like to try.
I'd probably recommend trying to sell expensive items whilst buying back other items in the same transaction, or possibly the 'sell gold' method.
You might also try the 300 Mercantile Exploit if you so desire (although it's very game immersion-breaking and I can't tell you first hand if it will work)
This mod may also help. Although I don't know if it increases the limits of Creeper or the Mudcrab Merchant.

Selling Expensive Items
- If the merchant has a lot of stock, buy all of it to increase his or her gold supply, then sell the expensive item, sleep for a while and sell the other stock back. Although you will lose a bit of the actual worth it is still better than just selling them.
- If there aren't enough items to buy, sell cheaper items first then wait a day, come back, buy the cheaper items back and use the increased gold stash to sell the more expensive things. You can then sell back the cheaper items the next day.
- Sell gold. This will increase a merchants' gold supply for a longer period of time, during which you can sell your more expensive items.
Doing this with Creeper will result in 0 loss. You can also buy stuff from Creeper while getting 1% off and then sell back getting 1% extra.

If you can cast Fortify Skill, make a spell that raises your mercantile enough to hit 300 Mercantile. You may need a Fortify Restoration skill to cast this spell. At 300 mercantile, you can buy items for 0 gold and sell 1 gold items for all of the merchant's gold. Alternatively, you can increase your personality to 2000+ and your luck to 1000 using the infinite attributes cheat to get the exact same result.
This mod may also help. Although I don't know if it increases the limits of Creeper or the Mudcrab Merchant.

Re: Can you give gold to an NPC through the console?
Thanks for the helpful reply, but the buying/selling of smaller items to get my worth out of larger items is what I'm trying to avoid (It's just so time consuming!)OblivionDuruza wrote:-Lots of info-
I'm confused about the selling gold thing, though. I tried to sell my gold to the Mudcrab Merchant and was told he "doesn't buy that item." I've heard that Creeper is more lenient with what products he buys, maybe it'll work with him, I should try it. Still, wouldn't you be losing money by doing that? (For example, if I want to sell an item worth 20,000 Gold, and I give Creeper 15,000 Gold, wouldn't I be selling an item worth 20,000 for only 5,000, since I'm buying back my own money?)
I'll give that a shot. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "clicking on the NPC," though. (I tried this previously when Mr. Mudcrab accidentally got killed, with the Resurrect command, but with the console open you can't click, and if you right-click to take control of the game again, left-clicking will attack the NPC.) Would you mind elaborating on how I would go about clicking on an NPC for use in the console?Scozzar wrote:Try this when you click on the npc
Additem "gold_001" #ofgoldhere

Ah, okay, yeah I see what you mean, for really expensive items it can take ages.
I tend to horde things and do it all at once, so I do it less frequently.
As for the console, are you familiar with Oblivion's Console? Morrowind's is similar to use, you should be able to just click on the NPC you wish to modify. UESP article if you feel like reading about it.

If you have the Construction Set, you could mod the merchants you want to give more gold. It might be easier than using the console (if a little more time consuming), and it will allow you to keep the plugin for multiple saves.
Alternativley, you could use the console command: SetBarterGold #

Re: Can you give gold to an NPC through the console?
I see. That's strange. It doesn't respond if I try to click through the console window, however, if I move my mouse to the top of the screen (slightly above the console window) it will "highlight" the NPC and allow me to click on it. It just took me some time to figure it out.Scozzar wrote:When you open up the console you'll see a bar of text at the top. It'll either say "console" or "whatyouclickedon". Click on the NPC through the console and you should see there name come up on the console. It's usually something like "NPCname0000000001" or something like that. That's there Construction ID
Then with the name still there, use the
additem "gold_001" (amount here without parenthesis)
Unfortunately the additem command isn't working. Well, it technically is since the command turns blue, but Mudcrab's bartering gold is still 10,000 when I talk to him.
That command is exactly what I want to do, unfortunately it seems to be an Oblivion-exclusive command. I tried it in Morrowind, but to no avail.OblivionDuruza wrote:If you have the Construction Set, you could mod the merchants you want to give more gold. I might try out the Construction Set. I've never used it, in fact I don't really know what you can do with it, but if it'll save me the excruciating amount of time it takes to sell/buy/resell with these merchants, I'm all for it.

Of course, it you're willing to cheat to get yourself more money, make it less complicated and just give yourself money...

Ring-a-ding, baby.

Hmm, I assumed it would work for both games
.
As for the Construction Set, this thread may help.

Here is a walkthrough on how to give Creeper more money. It was originally posted a long time ago by HETT and will work for Mudcrab as wellTheSlyder wrote:Scozzar wrote:

Creeper This is a walkthrough on how to edit the amount money he has to barter with
• Launch The Elder Scrolls Construction Set.
• Click on the open folder icon called Load Master/Plugin Files.
• Double-click the check box next to Morrowind.esm.
• Click on the OK button.
• The Construction Set (CS) will now load Morrowind.esm.
• Click on the Creature tab in the Object window.
• Scroll down to find the listing called scamp_creeper.
• Double-click on the name scamp_creeper.
• Click on the AI button.
• Click on the Services tab.
• Edit the Barter Gold value to suit your needs (200000 should be plenty). Do NOT use commas in your numerical entry.
• Click on the Save button under AI Data - scamp_creeper.
• Click on the other Save button under Creature.
• Click on the diskette icon button to open the Select Target Plugin window.
• Enter a unique file name, such as RichCreeper.
• Click on the Save button next to this new file name.
• Click on the main menu's File heading.
• Click on Exit.
• Launch Morrowind, but stop at the main menu (don't select Play yet).
• Click on Data Files in the main menu.
• Double-click the check box next to your new plugin.
• Click on OK.
• Click on Play in the main menu, and enjoy your wellspring of riches.
(need to wait 24 hours for his money to reset)

The construction set worked out just fine. I feel a little bit dirty doing it, but ultimately it's not giving me anything I wouldn't have earned otherwise, except in more time wasted with monotonous repetition.
Thanks a lot, guys.

Re: Can you give gold to an NPC through the console?
No problem. Just think of it this way, you're not cheating to gain extra money, you have to find the items yourself first. You're just taking away an annoying aspect of the game, making it more enjoyable for you to play
