Don't really like most of those, but Bjork is amazing.DorostheConqueror wrote:I used to be a bleeding-arse metal fan, so had you caught me a few years ago, I probably would have given you a list twenty pages long full of \m/ \m/ emoticons and Metallica bashing. But ever since my "garage band" opened for Nightwish (in New York City, with Special Guest Jens Johansonn, playing a cover of "Symphony of Destruction" by Megadeth!!!) it's all gone down hill. I first noticed it with Opeth- after I got into Opeth, I lost interest in a lot of my old favorite bands, since I knew everything they did, Opeth did better (seriously, I've noticed a lot of metal fans on this board, DON'T LISTEN TO OPETH. They're too good for their own good, literally) And, after a slow, steady decline, I've found that I no longer have any diehard band loyalties, and it's just a whole mess of various kinds of music which I'm inclined towards with various amounts of indifference.
If you had to press me, lately I've been listening to a lot of Niyaz, Lords of Acid, Armin van Buuren, Rev Horton Heat, Alizee (yeah, the WoW chick), Lady Sov, Bjork, In Extremo (better than Rammstein, btw), Snoop, and various stuffy classical [&@%!] music (Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Satie mainly). My "old school" faves revolved mainly around Mike Patton's dozen or so bands, Hevy Devy, Metallica, Megadeth, White Zombie, various goth, psychobilly, and/or punk bollocks (I still have to admit, Henry Rollins is the coolest man on earth), and *insert Scandinavian and/or pretentious guitar snob metal band here*. My all-time fave, the band I've got the absolute fondest memories of, is probably GWAR (if you have to ask, you'll never know) but again, I haven't been listening to them much in a long time.

What is in a label?
If someone put a piece of paper on your back with tape that said "Fool", does that make it so?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlyleafChristian Faith
All five members of the band are of the Christian faith. This faith influences their music, but lead singer Lacey Mosley doesn't necessarily believe that makes Flyleaf a strictly Christian band. "We all share the same faith. And so when we deal with the whole 'Christian band thing,' we kind of think about something P.O.D. says, like, 'If you're a Christian, it affects everything in your life. So if you're a plumber, does that make you a Christian plumber?' " Mosley said. "I don't know the answer. We're a band, it's part of who we are, so it comes out in our music, and it's the fuel for what we do. And finding faith saved my life. So I'm not ashamed of it at all. And most of our album reflects that."

That is what they are selling as, not Christain Metal, same thing with P.O.D.Flyleaf is an alternative metal band from the Belton, Texas area.
How does it not work out? Seems to me it is working quite well for them, as they are signed to a major lable.Currently on the A&M/Octone Records label,

Why would christianity make the music more melodic than normal death metal? All the faith in the world won't improve a tin ear.r wrote:Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron to me, a bit like melodic death metal...Quiglesigles wrote:Flyleaf is a christian band trying to play Heavy Metal. I don't know but it does not really work out.
Go on YouTube and listen to some of the christian singers that post their stuff. I'd rather dangle my nuts in a burlap sack full of angry tomcats and vinegar than subject my eardrums to that again.
Besides, the only valid metal argument is whether or not Megadeth could beat up Metallica in a fight. Everything else is foolish.
Except that Christan Metal, or Christian Heavy Metal is not an Oxymoron. The Heavy & Metal part is refering to the Music, not the lyrics. Now Christain Death Metal might not make much sense, unless you are a 17th Century Crusader... "Believe or Die".
You can't tell me that Melodic Death Metal is not possible either. Opeth, Children of Bodom, Nevermore, are pretty close to being Melodic Death Metal. Just becasue you have chuga-chuga rythmes, and cookie monster vocals, doesn't mean that you can not also show some musical skills/tallent.
It is really sad when people put labels on things. In doing so, you miss out on alot of good stuff. If you don't like something, do so because it doesn't appeal to you, not because of it's "Label".
Here is some Opeth, Ghost of Perdition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAMN5pyq ... re=related

Well, given that religion has been the cause of (or at least the excuse for) pretty much every war that's ever happened, I think Christian death metal makes perfect sense.jeff wrote:Except that Christan Metal, or Christian Heavy Metal is not an Oxymoron. That's not a "valid argument". Dave Mustaine already beat the crap out of the whole band, while he was drunk and high. There's no argument there- it's a foregone conclusion that Megadeth would win in a fight, and that's final. The Old Alchemist wrote:Besides, the only valid metal argument is whether or not Megadeth could beat up Metallica in a fight. To be fair, Opeth isn't so much "melodic death" as "a bunch of quasi-hippies who sometimes get mad", and Nevermore isn't so much "metal" as "really, really awful".Opeth, Children of Bodom, Nevermore, are pretty close to being Melodic Death Metal.
I don't know whether r was saying it can't exist- after all, oxymorons DO exist, which is why they're oxymorons. "Jumbo shrimp" might sound silly, but there really is such a thing as jumbo shrimp, just as there is such a thing as "melodic death". And he does have a point: after all, death metal got it's start with cantankerous old fuds with severe melody allergies, and the Gothenburg approach of combining songs that actually sound good (false metal!) with songs that make you want to kill your mother and rape your dog (cookie if you get the allusion) was virtually unheard of outside Scandowegia until the late 90s. So it makes sense to call melodic death metal oxymoronic, just as it would be to call country rap, pop punk, progressive folk, and music made by Metallica oxymorons.
Youtube up "Mortification" and "Horde".Now Christain Death Metal might not make much sense,

Oh, you failed the test. The real answer is "Black Sabbath!" We also would have accepted "Sabbath!"DorostheConqueror wrote:That's not a "valid argument". That's what happens when you listen to loud music... the bands put subliminal messages in their songs, make you learn necromancy and conjuration.ArotosMarkos wrote:It appears we have quite the adept necromancer among us.
As for you, Trodgor, Dragonforce's guitarists are way too sloppy; I've never seen such callous disregard for basic accuracy in sweep arpeggios in my life. I'm shocked you didn't say Limozeen instead!
