Talk about your favorite character that you roleplay with, post any concepts that might help other roleplayers get a better experience out of the game. Have fun and discuss your roleplaying adventures with others who share the same interests. Anything that has to do with roleplaying is welcome here.

My favorite character that I roleplay(ed) with was a male Breton hunter/ ranger. I literally left the sewers, went to Vilverin, got a bow, the alchemy ingredients/ apparat(i?) and went out into the woods :) I got all the way to level 40 making my only money and exp from selling potions and poisons, bandit loot and animal hides. What a life it was

Is that actually fun? Just playing a normal person? To me that would seem old or get boring. No diss intended I just hear about how people get into role playing & would love to learn or be able to get into it.

It's less about mimicking your character's projected actions than getting into your characters mindset. Would they do this? Would they accept this deal? What would they think of this? Would they trust this person?

I can't even count how many hours I've spent doing exactly that. There're two characters I created (vamp/knight) to do just that, and spending all my time dungeon diving and selling loot is the most fun I've had with any character. It's one of the main reasons I keep going back to Oblivion after all this time.

It's actually really refreshing sometimes. See below : ]

Exactly. When I play a ranger, it's out into the woods to explore and hunt, and then back to town to sell my spoils. As a ranger, I make friends with Rufus at The best Defense, because I wear Light Armor which he sells, and with Ogier at The Main Ingredient for my alchemical needs. Rather than being a chore, it's actually nice to have two specialized vendors that will greet me warmly when I walk into their shops.

Playing to a style can be refreshing too. It's not hard to break the game, especially as a warrior, or a mage, nor is it hard to find a place to sleep. But, playing to a role and having to think about what you're doing and how you'll go about it is a nice way to get a deeper enjoyment out of the game rather than find claymore, smash face, or skyrocketing through a 10-quest guild story to instant god-dom.

Today, for instance, I walked to Aleswell with my new level 2 ranger (I made a new ranger today 'cause this thread got me all nostalgic. Then leveled up in Vilverin). The walk was scenic, I did some hunting, and subsequent potion making. I explored every dialogue option, completed the quest. Now I have a free bed, and an entire town that likes me in a nice quiet place, right on the outskirts of my favorite forest in the game, and already 2000 legitimately earned Septims in my coinpurse. :D

I feel that the key to a good roleplay in Oblivion is to go around imagining that your game is being recorded and posted on Youtube for everyone else to see, complete with a "Director's Commentary" (your own thoughts) on what your character is all about.

Now, if you play the game 'conventionally', exactly as how Bethesda Softworks expects a first-timer to plod through all of the questlines, then no one's going to watch. They've seen that sort of a game, that sort of a character, through a hundred other accounts and channels.

Your character, in order to stay interesting, is going to have to make a story.

Now, what is a 'story'? It's a set of challenges that sets your character apart from everyone else in the world.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I made a travelling merchant character once, he was great. I also had a character based Zoro from one piece who wanted to be the best swordsman ever (Would have been better with a tri wield mod)

I'm certainly a roleplayer at heart, though the character that's decided she wants to be played this time around requires a little creative thinking. As I tend to play upright, law-abiding characters most of the time, I really wanted to go through the thieves' guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines for a change, and yet still leave myself the option of changing things around should life on the dark side pale for me. I've been going through the aforementioned quests first, with a smattering of quests for the mages' and fighters' guilds along the way whenever my character took up the whim for it. I decided that I'd try to play with the thought that the work for the Dark Brotherhood, particularly (though also the thieves, to an extent), took place before my character ended up in the Imperial Prison, and that her chance meeting with the Emperor there had quite an impact. A bit of twisted rationale, yes, and it does require that I conveniently never 'hear' people talking about the Emperor's murder while I'm running around robbing them blind, but it makes an amusing twist for me.

For me, at least, roleplaying is the most fun when I have an idea for a character settled, and then react in-game according to what that persona would do in any given situation. Pull a prank on Jeanne Frasoric in Bruma's Mage Guild? Sure, sounds fun! Figure out what happened to an old seer's amulet when she promises me rewarding (and intriguing!) words? Meh, maybe if I'm in the area and feeling generous. Track down a rogue mage that's harassing merchants? Nah, more amusing to maybe help myself to the pockets of a few travelers in the area and blame the aforementioned mage.

Simple, perhaps, but it works for me both in gaming and writing. Finding a character and putting yourself in their shoes for a while can bring highly interesting--if sometimes somewhat unexpected!--results.

I roleplay with my newest character.
Middle Aged, Male Imperial.
Uses Blunt, Heavy Armour, Destruction and Restoration.
(Custom Class: Demon Hunter)
Difficulty about 75%
The roleplay is:

He's a low level Middle Class working man who, after the Oblivion Crisis started to get serious (I.E, Gates start opening all over), ventured out into the wilderness, his goal being to do as much damage to the deadra as possible.
I brought with me my current armour set, Iron with fur greaves, my Silver Warhammer and Steel war axe. I make a camp in the wilderness, and stay there for 4 in game days. During this time, I head around the area, main targets being Daedra or Undead. At least 1 day is spent entirely at the camp, defending, repairing and resting.
I shoot arrows into trees when I leave camp, which gives me a trail to follow back.
Generally avoiding civilisation, I spend all my tim ein the wilderness, only stopping at inns to sell whatever goods I come across. Money is only spent on items which increase battle performance.
Pretty fun:}

I would say all my characters are fun. I have a mage, an assassin/theif, a Nord Warrior, and a Redguard fist-fighter.

I wanted to do a cave explorer, but what I really wanted was to explore a gigantic cave that took over a day exploring... Any ideas? Does it exist? Mod included?

I took a level 10 or so ranger or fighter with no healing options (neither Restoration nor Alchemy proficiency) and basically lived bt hiding in the dark corners of the Sundercliff caves in the Mehrune's Razor DLC. That took like three game weeks or something  At least an entire, if not a couple RL days.

Morrowind gave the player a very easy ability to Roleplay, with various factions and so on. I tend to try and transpose this from Morrowind into Oblivion, so I create a different backstory for my characters (who are usually Dunmeri anyway), with some being from Morrowind.

The different Houses, for instance, lend themselves rather nicely to different styles of roleplaying. For example, House Redoran lends itself perfectly to Noble Characters, while House Telvanni lends itself well to the unconventional.

I have a Breton mage who worships Sanguine.

She wanders all over Cyrodil visiting various taverns and getting drunk, streaking through the woods at night while high on skooma, bribing politicians to overlook her crazy antics and educating herself with such literary masterpieces as The Lusty Argonian Maid and A Less Rude Song.

She's a master Conjurer with a great interest in Daedric Artifacts/Creatures, so I collect and display these things in Rosethorn hall. In my mind she's not really evil, she just could give a sod less about anyone besides herself and uses her powers for frivolous ends. The only reason she gets caught up in closing the Oblivion gates is because she's Cyrodil's expert on daedra, and she covets the Sigil Stones and other treasures to be found inside Oblivion.

I had her get kicked out of the Arcane University for misconduct because I thought it provided a suitable backstory. She also loves practical jokes, so I come up with things to do like steal people's money/valuables and replace it with useless crap like yarn or cabbage, or sneak into churches and replace the children's annuads with the Book of Daedra or the Five Tenets.

Fun stuff.
Yesterday upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today. Oh how I wish he'd go away!

I made an invincible wood elf marksman without any 100% chameleon or any such cheats..... just a bow with soultrap+weakness to magic 100 for 2sec+shock damage 30pts for 1sec and if close range then my dagger with soultrap+paralysis in 5ft for 1 sec.... nothing can touch me.... never used armor and if i am in a hurry, i will just charge in and hack stuff with my dagger. If enemy is resistant to paralysis, I have a custom made weakness to paralysis in 5ft for 20 sec spell

I had many hours roleplaying as a kid that was a normal kid, then he grew up and was like 'I'm gonna be free now, get my own house, wife, a new life'. He was good with a short sword, he trained in his parent's backyard for years, he and his childhood friend he loved. One day that child died ( or he thought she died ) by going into a nearby cave full of vampires. So he grew up, went in his journey and wanted to avenge his friend. So one day he was travelling and some bandit attacked him, he fought back and that was his first kill, and he enjoyed. So he started killing more bandit, outlaws, and one day, he killed a innocent farmer that was... farming outside of a farm. After that, Dark Brotherhood contacted him to become a assassin and he accepted.

And the story goes on for hours and hours and hours of gameplay , till I got bored ;3
Can I mod finally make me a confirmed user? I'm pretty sure I done everything for a while now and still can't do things.

I recently had this idea of role playing.... long before the dragonfires were made, when there was no protection to tamriel from other worlds, a group of warriors formed together as Gaurdians. Even to this day, they exist in secret and even the king of Tamriel doesnot know about them. The gaurdians are masters of bow and blade. Centuries of fighting monsters and magical beings has made them able to cast some basic level spells. Though they are the best warriors in Tamriel, they prefer to hide in shadows and take out their enemies without direct confrontation. When the gates of Oblivion was opened and the sons of Uriel Septim were killed, the Gaurdians learned of the emperor's plan to escape through the secret entrance in the prison. So they send the best of their warriors in disguise of a prisoner to that cell in order to retrieve the amulet of kings and secure the Dragonfires.... well, you know the rest

I've made an imperial merchant, who doesn't mind killing a bandit or two.
I was thrown in jail because some rival merchant tricked me, resulting in jailtime. After I got out of the jail I went to the imperial market district, to get some money. I pick up ingredients to make poisons which I'll then sell, and I kill bandits and sell everything they have on their bodies.
Me: "So, how did you get this rich?"
Random Jarl: "I'm the Jarl and so were my father, grandfather, and his father. How about you?"
Me: "I've just spent some days chopping wood."

For Roleplayers, eat three times a day, or less if you are a beggar. Don't carry hundreds of clothes. Go to the market on selected days. Also, make your surname the surname of another character so that you can be related to them.
