The Game of War

Faldor is a world at war. Some say it’s the most diverse world ever for the intelligent species on the world vary greatly. In the Golden Age of Life, you couldn't throw a stone without hitting an intelligent lifeform that wasn't a human.

But then...

It all Changed.

The species of Faldor split apart. They formed their own empires. At first, every empire of the same race was connected. Eventually, every country became independent. Species started to treat their own kind like enemies. Only their own empires, and perhaps their allies, were trusted.

But like everyone, everywhere,

They wanted more.

Each species wanted their kind to be dominant on Faldor. To do that... they would have to go to war.

Technology

The people of Faldor generally are still in the medieval age, but they have developed muskets and cannons. They still use swords and bows and the like. They don't have vehicles, and their communication generally varies based on the empire.

The Many Races of Faldor Color Coded!

Humans: The human species is the largest throughout Faldor but the most diverse in itself. All Humans generally live to 150, give or take a few decades. Humans are well rounded when it comes to weapons and technology. It has several subspecies, even though they all look alike:

The Naiad: Humans who excel in or near the water and most likely their civilization revolves around water.

The Dryad: Humans who, is contrast to the Naiad, excel on land and their civilization make use of the land in very creative ways.

The Oread: Humans who live in mountainous areas and make use of the mountains.

The Icade: Humans who excel on the ice and make use of the ice.

No matter what sub-species of human there is, they generally have an alliance with the Centaurs. The centaurs are half man, half horse, and live with humans. In battle and even sometimes out of it, Centaurs act as the human’s transportation. Centaurs can also wield bows and arrows.

Elf (LINK): Elves live basically everywhere on Faldor. Typical elves have either pale white or yellow skin and pointy ears, along with large eyes. Elves live to 500, give or take a few decades. They are not genetically diverse, however, but there is a different type of elves than the normal. Elves generally are found with swords and medieval weapons, although it varies on the empire of elves.

The Drakor Elves (LINK): These elves have made a home for themselves… underground. They live in huge underground caverns all throughout the world, but the Drakor are generally the most hated species on Faldor, even by other Elves. This is because Drakor live underground and do not allow other species to take their space aboveground without it being an act of war, so valuable living area is wasted. Almost no one can directly take on a Drakor Cavern because of their defenses. Drakor Elves are extremely pale and have light purple eyes. Many of their veins are visible from their skin.

Dwarf: Dwarves are your typical little people who usually make fine melee warriors. Dwarves can live to around 200. They are strong despite their strength, so any size weapon can be wielded by them. They are hardy and disciplined people and their empires are always strong. Dwarves are generally very religious as well. If they meet a Dwarf, or another empire of Dwarves, that are unreligious, they believe them to be traitors to the Dwarven race.

Tritons: Also known as Mermaids and Mermen by outside races. The Tritons of Faldor live, of course, underwater. They are described as having beutifal upper bodies and faces and a large tail of a fish. Tritons use spears and lances as their primary weapons. They can command underwater creatures to do what they say fairly easily. Tritons live to around 300. As Tritons cannot walk on land, they made suits that are something like reverse diving suits, with artificial legs and a reverse-rebreather as they cannot breathe air. The suits are large to provide room for the Triton’s tail. These suits allow Tritons to fight on land but they would die soon after their rebreathers broke in a fight. They are masters at fighting underwater and have huge submarine-type vessels that they battle land creatures with.

Goblin: Some believe that the green-skinned, pointy eared, small Goblins are mutated elves but of course both species deny this. Goblins live around 100 years. Goblins generally live in small, compacted empires. If an outsider saw one of these empires they would likely compare it to a beehive. Goblins, despite what many people think, are of human intelligence or perhaps a little lower. Due to their interest in technology Goblins have excellent firearms.

Fauns: Fauns, like Tritons, are half-humans. To be specific, they are half human and half goat. Their goat legs allow them to travel fast so they generally make good archers, firing bows and arrows and retreating if the enemy gets to close, then firing again. Fauns live in forests generally and sometimes even live in trees. Their empires are generally widespread and sparsely populated because every Faun needs his or her space. The Faun is the longest lived species living up to 800.

The Serpents: The last and most unusual half-human species. Serpents are half man and half snake with a human upper body and a huge snake tail that serve as their legs. The Serpents thrive in hot areas therefore live mostly in the desert. They can travel easy in the desert due to their tails. The Serpents generally use spears, javelins and pikes as weapons but are known to use firearms. Serpents are armored above the waste, so their large snake lower bodies are left vulnerable. Serpents have large yellow eyes and a forked tongue. Contrary to popular belief, their bites do not contain any poison. Serpents live to around 150.

Whatever happened that split the races apart anyway?

I'm sure you've asked yourself this exact question. Well, the answer is quite complicated.

Over one thousand years ago, all of the races lived together in harmony. They mostly lived under one religion, they were Armitians. They celebrated the god Armite until one day they received a divine message from Armite himself:

Because of the mortal's faith, he was sending his daughter Armenina down to Faldor. If they listened to her guidance, they would prosper and live in paradise.

Of course, it all went to hell once Armenina arrived on Faldor.

For a few months, everyone did listen to her guidance and they lived in a brief golden age. But then, it happened. The Serpents tried to claim Armenina as her own so she could help only them. The Goblins immediately refuted this and went to war with the Serpents. This event, known as the Serpent-Goblin war, ended with tens of thousands of people from both species dead.

This left both species weak and what happened next? The Tritons try to take Armenina themselves. At the same time, many human groups tried to take her and they had a war of their own.

During the war in an event known as The Battle for River Greatlan, Humans captured Armenina. The Tritons developed a water-based bomb that would destroy the humans guarding Armenina... but they did not predict that Armenina was a mortal just like them.

She was killed in the bombing. Armite, enraged over his daughter's death and the mortal's corruptness, cursed the world to live in a dark and dangerous place... a place of everlasting war.

Your Goals

Of course you'll make an Empire. You'll chose a species to play as. You'll look at the map of Faldor and choose where your county is to be on the map. Remember, wherever you put it, you'll have to pay attention to your environment. Remember: Only Drakor Elves live underground and only Tritons live underwater.

After everyone is set, the war games will begin. I'll get you started, because I'll have a country myself, but generally it's you who will forge alliances and wage wars.

Because remember. The goal is to win. In order to win, you must survive. In order to survive, you must be smart. I will moderate the wars. If you lose THREE WARS, your Empire will crumble and you'll be out of the game. Of course, you can avoid this by surrendering to another country... if they accept your surrender, you can become their client kingdom. The possibilities are endless!

Remember: You can play as anyone, you can switch views from general, assassin, thief, leader, etc. etc.

Application

Empire Name:
Home Species:
Capital City:
Leader(s) of the Empire:
Background information (Optional but recommended, Includes how the empire formed when Faldor split apart):
Additional Information:

Unspoken Rules that every Faldorian should know

1. If you travel through the water, you better be on good terms with the Tritons you are above.
2. If you travel through the desert, you better have money to pay Serpent Mercenaries that prowl the place.
3. If Tritons travel on land, it is generally seen as a suspicious act.
4. Human sub-species, even though they look the same, never have gotten along well.
5. Centaurs never survive on their own for long. They are dependent on Humans and Humans rely on Centaurs.
6. In order for a Goblin or Dwarven army to have strength, it must be a large army since they are so small (Three feet or four).
7. Never. Never. Travel through a Faun-owned forest without their permission.
8. Fauns in mountainous areas don’t do very well.
9. Never anger a Dwarf.
10. Never try to outrun a Serpent. They are the fastest species alive, even compared to Fauns.
11. Fauns can shoot you down at five hundred feet away. Don’t think they can’t.
12. If you wander above a Drakor Cavern, they will send men to get you off their land. Or kill you. It depends on the Drakor living under it.
13. There is diversity in every empire (Except the Tritons). With one chosen empire, I.E. a Goblin Empire or Elven Empire, the said species is largest in number of course.

Most Importantly... ME!

Empire Name: Pascia
Home Species: Fauns
Capital City: Jade City
Leader(s) of the Empire: Ishral Tedius
Background information (Optional but recommended, Includes how the empire formed when Faldor split apart): Even the current Faun Elders cannot claim to have seen Armenina with their own eyes, but their grandfathers have. Even 1000 years ago, Pascia was mostly populated by Fauns, who remained neutral during the Armite Crisis. The fauns loved Pascia because every few miles was a huge tree. Almost one mile tall and several thousand feet wide, these trees serve as cities for the Fauns. They hollow out large parts of the tree and live in them. Their houses and furniture are made of wood from the tree. Jade City is a group of three of these trees together.
The trees have huge elevator type pulleys that take fauns up and down the trees. The trees are well defended by Faun archers.

Additional Information: None, except Pascia mainly focuses on defense. The bulk of their military are archers and few own cannons or muskets.

Empire Name: Segundus Prime
Home Species: Goblins
Capital City: Kirdor
Leader(s) of the Empire: Emperor Saeed
Background information (Optional but recommended, Includes how the empire formed when Faldor split apart): The Goblin empire of Segundus Prime formed around 600 years ago. Emperor Saeed's grandfather founded the nation and initially went to war with Machek. He knew more than many mortals did at the time about The Elderbone.

Additional Information: There are 25 large Goblin cities in Prime, all very close to each other and very populated. Prime has very modern technology and usually muskets are their main weapon.

Note!: My Empire is the large island in the middle of the map. This is because I'm the overseer of you people and it will be easier for all of us.

Empires of Faldor

LtGt:
Empire Name: Irascia
Home Species: For the most part, Elves. There is also a significant Faun population, and a less significant Human minority, which is mostly Naiad traders.
Capital City: Vaelenna
Leader(s) of the Empire: A council of military and civilian leaders, headed by a ruling Tribunal, which is made up of the young, brash Marshal Jor Delena, who speaks for the military, Jesan Toerhen, an ancient Elven leader, who is much more cautious (to the point of cowardice), and the rest of the council's elected spokesperson, Mika Iaelen. She is new to the council, and a mystery.
Background information (Optional but recommended, Includes how the empire formed when Faldor split apart): Ignoring cries for war,the government decided to wait... And watch. Seeing the division ripping the continent apart, Irascia declared it's independence, and began to fortify it's defences and military.
Additional Information: The 'Capital' of Vaelenna is a very small, walled city, unusual compared to other Irascian cities, which are open and sprawling. The largest city is Roscea, which is also a bustling port. The capital itself is enveloped in deep woods. The country is located in the far north-west of the south-western continent.
EDIT: The border runs along the V shaped river, and maintains outposts along the rivers in the taiga north.

JVElEven:
Empire Name: Oyiderionea (The Empire of Oyderion)
Home Species: Serpents.
Capital City: Ciiz-Noxced Oyderion
Leader(s) of the Empire: Empress Vathaud IV. 'Foxheart', Aged 124
Background information: The Oyderionic Empire was founded when a disgruntled governor, being ignored and left to his own defences by the original Serpent Empire, finally snapped and procalimed himself emperor, naming his land after the capital city, whose name mean 'Downstream City of Oyderion'. After a series of battles, the people of Oyderion has established themselves as a defensive, heavy-weight emphasized land power, upolding a fairly large navy for a land power, the ships being mostly heavy transports. Everything involves heavy armor in Oyiderionea.
Additional Information: Vathaud 'Foxheart', nicknamed so because of her great cunning, is beginning to experience bad health, and her four children are squabbling over who should inherit. Oyderion's populace have the final say in that, as the next emperor/empress will always be chosen by the people, choosing between the kids of the previous leader. Their military staff is, with almost no exceptions defense specailists and naval commanders, and the borders of Oyderion is riddled with small fortifications and fortified towns. The standing army is purely for defensive use, as the empire has never been on attackng ground, preferring to make monetary benefits from conflicts rather than territory.

Savilius:
Empire Name: Dracian
Home Species: Dryiad
Capital City: Telnos
Leader(s) of the Empire: General Ormis Anyhoor
Background information : General Ormis survived on the little amount of food he could find. He traded with others, and eventually set up a small house. After he ran into a group of warriors seeking refuge, others came, and soon more and more, until he had a large city.
Additional Information: Ormis is a kind, smart man. He makes decisions that only he sees the benefit from. He cares for his people, and will wage war for them, but he also wants to expand to other areas, and maybe eventually conquer the whole left continent.

POMC:
Empire Name: The Equalist States of Eusiac
Home Species: They believe in equality, and thus, they are mixed.
Capital City: Crusada
Leader(s) of the Empire: Prime Minister Aidan Martin
Background information: When the planet of Faldor split apart, with racial rifts cracking through the usually firm societal walls, the Government of Eusiac sprouted up. Being located in a now-extinct, multi-cultural domain, the Government advertised Eusiac as the place were numerous races could live together. Due to their stance on race equality, many nations have declared war on them, however, there knowledge in battle, provided by all of the races that thrive there, is more than enough to hold their ground.
Additional Information: Most of their empire is located on the mainland, however, due to the protection provided by the sea, the bulk of their civilisation and their capital city resides on islands.

King Acunasti:
Empire Name: Kingdom of Hessiana (otherwise known as the Hessianan Empire)
Home Species: Triton
Capital City: Delnaria (known to land dwellers as the “Great Water City”)
Leader(s) of the Empire: King Titan Koro-Nar
Background information: The Hessianan Empire is located at the very depths of Hessianan Ocean (at the center of Faldor). The waters of the Hessiana Ocean remain very warm - usually at about 90 degrees. The Hessianan Empire is dominated by a powerful sect of the mighty Triton race. The majority of the Triton race remained loyal to the Hessianan Empire after all order in Faldor fell apart. Their reigning king, Titan Koro-Nar, now rules with a just, fair, and powerful hand.
Additional Information: Delnaria is a massive city located at the very depths of the ocean. It spans across hundreds of miles. The Tritons of the Kingdom of Hessiana are very well-connected. They commonly use water chariots drawn by specially bred sea horses for transportation. Their vast military forces make good use of the many dangerous beings that dwell within the sea. The Kingdom of Hessiana dominates the vast majority of Faldor's bodies of water. They control all but the fresh water lakes to the north and south. Hessianan military uses very unique weapons (including firearms) that are formed for both surface and underwater combat.

Leyyuce:
Empire Name: Icadia (The Icade Empire)
Home Species: The Icade. A substantial number of goblins, in addition to a respectable amount of other non-human individuals, reside in Icadia.
Capital City: Icadia
Leader(s) of the Empire: King Alamar Drinhorin III
Background information: As the divisions of humanity began a distant and bitter separation from one another, Icades seeking those who shared their views of their race as the superior breed of human relocated to their favored environment- the cold, unforgiving north. The name of the dominant race was made the name of the land, and of the capital- excessive nationalism became commonplace. Within a short period of time, a large number of Goblins immigrated into the nation, seeking isolation from the cold-blooded Serpents, a race rare in frigid Icadia; they were immediately welcomed as a working class race, along with many other non-humans.
Additional Information: King Alamar Drinhorin III is an Icade who rules with absolute power- a large number of military and political advisors influence his decisions, and he is generally respected and well-liked by the people of Icadia.

OblivionDuruza
Empire Name: Iaurlúth (oft referred to as the empire)
Home Species: Elves, with note-worthy human and dwarf populations (let's say 10-20% each as a rough estimate, to the elves 50-60% majority) and a secluded and relatively unrecognised Faun and Drakor Elf populaces (5-10% although the Darkor are not counted in any census of the Empire)
Capital City: Glaurmalthen - The former capital is Ardhthurin
Leader(s) of the Empire: The High Council lead by High Chancellor Arathór Aleanraheal and his mentor Einiortirn. Commander Brannonthalion Dryearlylth leads he armies of Iaurlúth. Aearomben Húben leads the small navy.
Other notable characters: Arveldir Haeron - Diplomat and chief of foreign affairs, Brannor - Commander of the Hastlang Battalion, Erthor Rirosson - member of House Rirosson and diplomat, Belardar Rivornor - member of House Rivornor and diplomat, Amdiron - a sage and elder (educates childern at the Glaurmalthen University), Húlon - Commander of the Authand Battalion, Aglaron – Commander of the Maethalon Battalion, Arthon – a Nobleman, Hinnoron - an archer, Hador - a soldier, Maethorgal - a warrior, Thannor – a warrior, Hádhon - a warrior, Faronhír - a ranger
Background information (Optional but recommended, Includes how the empire formed when Faldor split apart): As the other races crumbled around them as they squabbled over Armenina, the elves remained resolute. Under the guidance of Lord Viripoten Validius, they forged an empire for themselves, subduing the other races and assimilating the human and dwarven communities into their social order. The empire itself is ruled by the High Council, an Oligarchy of the influential and powerful. Beneath the Council, several families have risen above the others, each holding claim to their own lands and followers. House Rivalton is a prosperous House, they are the most dominant and are therefore heavily involved in Council. House Rirosson is a peaceful House, eager to make peace with other nations and keen to conduct trade. They are forward thinking and accepting, but slow to commit to action. House Rivornor is a more traditional House. They are unwilling to forget the past and uphold the traditions of the elves, but are xenophobic and untrusting. While the Houses are known to put aside their differences during times of great need, when times are good in the empire, they have been known to fight amongst themselves, requiring the mediation of the High Council, in the resolution of their disputes. The empire is sworn enemies of the Goblins and Serpents, a hatred stemming many generations.
Additional Information: The Elven armies of the empire are famed for their integration of infantry and ranged divisions. Many elven children receive training with both the blade and bow, as all families (as in actual families not the Houses) are expected to offer one of their own for service in times of war. The army of Iaurlúth consists of several Battalions, including the Elvedui, Caranor, Authand, Maethalon, Hastlang Battalions.
Alliances:
Iaurlúth - Irascia - Hessiana
Iaurlúth - Eusiac - Oyiderionea

Chapters

Chapter One: Elderbone and the Dwarves of Machek
Spoiler:
Chapters are designed to test your country's resolve and strain your alliances. The first Chapter in Faldor revolves around a large swamp called Machek and the Dwarven people who live inside, and what treasure they are guarding.

______________________

Night fell of Faldor as it did every other time in history. But when day came, a dramatic war had started.

A mysterious robed person visited every major empire on Faldor, a similarly robed Triton went underwater, and delivered the rulers a strange message. The message read,
Greetings, Noble Masters of Faldor.

I am Sir Julius Visor, humble Goblin. You may have heard of me because I am widely considered to be the richest man on this planet. I have contacted every major King, Queen, Lord, Duchess and Duke on this warring world because I need a task done, and I can pay.

Deep in the marshes of Machek, located on Aggrius, lies a Dwarven Empire. These Dwarven savages, lead by the barbarian Chief Ilo Rockvede, are truly living a pathetic existence. Tsk tsk tsk. I almost feel sorry for them.

But these little Barbarians hold a treasure beyond imagination: The Elderbone. The Elderbone is a small object of immense power and I want it. If you can get it for me, I will reward your empire with exactly One Trillion Gold Pieces.

Before you get any big ideas, will all due respect dear lords and ladies, Elderbone is useless to you. You cannot sell it to anyone. You cannot use it. It would only rot in your posh museum. It is worthless... unless you want it. Which I do.

My sources gather that Duke Ilo Rockvede holds Elderbone in his personal treasury at the heart of Machek. How you get it is up to you, but I'm sure you could use one trillion gold... hmm? Ha ha ha.

Warning: Beware, for there is a coastal empire to the east of Machek. My fellow Goblins of Segundus Prime have been warring with Machek for generations. They may be a challenge but I'm sure your magnificent minds will find a way around it.

If we were speaking in person, I would bow before you. Since I am not present,

Yours Truly,

Julius Visor.

There are only two large islands left that are worthy of dominance, so I'd say only take one. You could still have a small area on one of the three mainlands but I suggest it be close to your island.

Just so you know, I'm going to update the map as we go along with borders. I've drawn your borders in POMC. It may not be exactly what everyone wants but I'll keep it even and fair.

My capital is south of JV's, near the light blue river, right in between the desert and the grasslands.

Good, your Serpents will flourish in the desert. And I welcome you to the true faith, my child. But giving credit where credit is due, this is actually a redesigned Art of Warfare by Iamgoofball.

Question to JV: Do you want the large freshwater lake in that area or not? (Will your borders go under or over the lake?)
Question to Sav: Where is your empire now?

@Savilius: Terribly sorry to be a grammar nazi here, but I do blieve it's called 'mistook'.

Okay I'll give you the desert region.

Of course, generally, the larger a nation is, the harder it is to defend it. This of course if common sense...

Matt, can I have the protrusion of land beside the sea on the west continent? Also, can I own the sea around it? My islands are going to be there.

Sure. That's why Oyderion is a defensive nation.

There are only two islands that you can populate, sorry. One is the grassland strip and the other is the small forest island. And of course the chunk of land on the northern west continent if you count it.

I mean small islands. Like the ones in Japan. Not Honshu, Hokkaido and the other two, but the tiny ones that are only 1km^2
