I usually use pistols, shotguns, and the Hunting Rifle in New Vegas. In Fallout 3, I used Autumn's Laser Pistol, a Chinese Assault Rifle, and the Kneecapper.

Anybody who doesn't at least try and use the Anti-Materiel Rifle is crazy. Fact.

Sound. I think regular Super Mutants respawn outside of the GNR Plaza as well.

I'm also wondering where I can find those lads that are always asking for Purified Water. I've found 2,one outside Megaton and one outside Tenpenny Tower. The one outside Megaton probably vaporized and I accidently killed the one outside Tenpenny with the Fat Man while trying to kill some Ghoul who had a Chinese Assault Rifle that I badly wanted at the time. Are there any more of them? I need the Good Karma to get Fawkes.

Also, are there any plans on releasing DLC that makes FO:NV continue on after the main storyline?

1) There's a water beggar on the bridge before Rivet City, but he seems to spontaneously die quite a lot, so don't hold out on him.

2) Nope, Obsidian have made it clear that they won't be extending the main storyline of New Vegas or continuing from the final cutscene.

You could keep giving scrap metal to the guy in Megaton, if you didn't blow it up, that is.

You can give caps to the church in Rivet City for good karma.

There's more than one way. It's already been said that you can donate (that's the important part, don't ask for money) scrap metal to Walter in Megaton, and you can give caps to both the church in Megaton and the one in Rivet City. Plus there's plenty of good sidequests and unmarked quests that can net you tons of the good stuff.

I just got New Vegas three days ago. I'm only level 13 and I've enjoyed it more than my 20 levels of Fallout 3(I loved Fallout 3 and intend on getting the GOTY edition). Better storyline, iron sights,Ranger Sexuoia,Lucky,Mysterious Magnum,Maria and a more balanced levelling system won it for me. And I haven't even got the M95 yet. The only thing New Vegas is missing is Three Dog.

Beat New Vegas for the second time yesterday. I always try to side with the NCR, but never can. I will at some point. I might get Old World Blues, but right now the only DLC I want is Lonesome Road.

azuarc wrote:I got into playing Fallout 3 recently as a result of a Steam sale. I haven't really found any good sites for info on the game that have the information is an easily-searched environment. (A massive walkthrough FAQ on gamefaqs doesn't count.) Really, the only thing I've found of value was the interactive flash map, which shows all map locations and where all the bobbleheads are.

So I figured, I bet the good people of UESP have already discussed this topic. I attempt to do a forum search for "Fallout 3" and the site rejects my search, saying the search terms are too common. I think, "that's odd," but I take away the 3 and try again with just "Fallout." Still too common. But if fallout is such a common term, why can't I find a fallout thread in the first four pages of the Multimedia forum?

So anyway, the reason I was searching: what good Fallout sites are there out there? Web searches just seem to turn up all-purpose gaming sites and a lot of junk info.

Funny thing is that at some point I did stumble upon the Vault, and at the time it didn't seem too useful to me. I guess it's just not laid out quite the same as my dear UESP. *sniff*

Sadly, I see this somewhat-active Fallout thread and think "hey maybe people will still be talking about stuff," but all the activity for the last year has been on New Vegas. If I've been too cheap to buy regular FO3 before now, than clearly I won't have NV for a while...

That said, I finished the MQ last night. I had been warned the ending was abrupt and all, but I didn't realize just how abrupt. In retrospect, the storyline had all the warning signs...after talking to the big computer, and the "epic" approach to the final area, I suppose I should have seen it coming. I felt like they needed to develop more of the antagonism of the Enclave first, though.

I had done the content from Anchorage and Point Lookout prior. I haven't touched Pitt or Zeta yet. I finished at level 25. I can firmly say that the "upgraded" enemies added with Broken Steel REALLY tick me off, though. Feral Ghoul Reavers, especially, but the Super Mutant Overlords aren't much fun either. At least I'm able to mess with them effectively, and I can make them cower if I blow up their weaponry. The reavers...they're worse than the yokels in Point Lookout by far for tenacity, and they hurt!

I do find it odd that I've completed the main quest plus a lot of unrelated stuff, and I have yet to go to the northern half of the wasteland (besides the time you get moved there.) Like, the only human settlements I've found have been Megaton and Rivet City....and Tenpenny Tower, which I inadvertently killed off while playing with a security console I found right after I entered. My curiosity killed all those cats~

...could write more, but I'll refrain from writing a novel

Wait, I lost you on the Reavers bit. Nothing is worse than the hillbillies, ever. Anyway, you should explore the North bit, especially the Northeast, because it's arguably the more interesting part of the Wasteland. The South's got most of the story locations and characters, but the North's got all the random cool shizzle.

Working on it. I do get to keep playing after the end. I finally have a few quests sending me northward to the butt-end of nowhere. Broken Steel is sending me to Olney and I have the violin quest now.

And no, the reavers are way worse than the hillbillies. At least the hillbillies come at you with weapons that you can destroy, can be reasonably slowed down by crippling a leg, and are easy to mess with by chucking grenades at them in stealth and leading them across mines. Reavers just sense you and come at you once you make contact, even if you're wearing the stealth suit, and they take way too much of a beating before they stop.

I wish I could decide on a payload of weapons to carry. When I started off, it was a process of rotating through what I actually had ammo for. My preference then was for the Combat Shotgun, which I still love. I'd use the Hunting Rifle for long distance, and carry some third gun for mid-range -- Chinese Assault Rifle by preference. I didn't use grenades or mines much since they seemed hard to come by relative to their use. Then again, it wasn't until I read this thread that I realized you could use grenades in VATS, which is pretty awesome. But now that I've done so much stuff, I have a ton of other weapons sitting in my locker, and plenty of ammo for mostly everything. I originally envisioned picking Explosives as my main weapon for something different, but I had assumed there would be actual weapons flagged as such, rather than (for example) the missile launcher being a "Big Gun." So I've been more of a Small Guns specialist since. At level 27 now, I've almost got small, explosive and energy all up to high levels, but I don't want to carry a ton of stuff since I tend to be a hoarder and want to bring plenty home with me. (And I like to stealth, so I don't bring a follower.)

Protip: Pick one weapon skill and exclusively use it. It lets you focus your skill points better, plus it gives you more money to work with.

I've got the skills I care about to the point where a bobblehead and a couple skill books will max out. So at this point, I don't mind "throwing away" my skill points at a weapon skill that I might periodically pick up. Better than a skill I really won't use, like Barter. I do intermittently use an energy weapon...I carry a Gauss Rifle sometimes, and I like using the Tri-beam Laser Rifles I loot off mutants (if I haven't destroyed them preemptively.) When I first started, I did mostly stick to putting points into Small Guns, even though Explosives was tagged.

combat shotgun, VATs, headshot boom

ghouls aren't a problem for me either

i loved the atmosphere of the dunwich building at relatively low level.. scary place without the ghoul mask. In fact one of my favourite moments in FO3 ever was killing a glowing one in vats (when things were getting quite touch and go with ammo and health) and having one of his eyes flying through the air towards me in slomo with "I dont want to set the world on fire" playing lol
