To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the question.
As the title suggests, will you be fast travelling? I pesonaly will not be using it.
Im also wondering are you going to visit evey town instantly o visit them as you pass?

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I'll be fast traveling because it would be a real pain having to trek everywhere especialy if all you want to do is put some loot in your house but for most of the main story itself i will not be fast traveling. I'll visit each town once i pass them or are near the area.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I normally try not to use fast travel on my first few playthroughs, well at least over long distances, i do sometimes fast travel through different sections off the imperial city so i dont get bogged down by all the loading screens -_-

I sometimes fast travel between major cities, and then trek to my destination from there. I rarely/never fast travel directly to a location.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
sadly...when it's there, I can not help it, when it's not I want it,When it is, I do not want it, now i doubt that made any sense but... baseicly when I play Obilvion I use it but don't like it because you don't really explore unless you make yourself do it, and when I play Morrowind I want because it's annoying when you have to back track to a cave you already found or you have to go back for a quest, and you forget how to get there

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
When playing Oblivion and FNV, I enjoyed just walking around everywhere, unlocking new locations and during the journey between each city, I often had new adventures and encounters along the way and did not use fast travel at all.
As for FO3, I used fast travel quite a bit because the metro tunnels were a PITA.
In Skyrim, considering the extra attention to designing many picturesque panoramas throughout the land, I'm 99% certain I won't be using fast travel at all during any of my playthroughs.

This. Not only will I want to see absolutely everything there is to see in Skyrim, but it's perfectly in tune with my "Dragon Killer" roleplay - the goal of which is to simply fulfill my role as Dovakiin by killing any and all Dragons I can find.BootySweat wrote: In Skyrim, considering the extra attention to designing many picturesque panoramas throughout the land, I'm 99% certain I won't be using fast travel at all during any of my playthroughs.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
When I first got Oblivion I didn't know you could fast-travel so naturally I travelled everywhere either by horse or on foot. I found this alot more exciting than fast travelling everywhere, But the endless bandits on every corner annoyed me so much. With the new graphic upgrades and such that are going to be in Skyrim I definitely will walk or ride everywhere on my horse (preferably without armour) for a while. But eventually at some point, will have to fast travel.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
There's been some mention of using coaches to get to new locations, presumably large ones like towns and cities. So I'm hoping that the map won't be as unlocked as in Oblivion where you could go to any city the moment you left the sewer. So you'll have to travel to locations "properly" before you can fast travel between them.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
So I thought about it for about three seconds and came up with a great idea for the people that don't want to fast travel, but feel that the enemies on the roads in Oblivion were annoying, you can travel with a caravan of traders and it would be faster, with no loading screens, and at the end you could choose to fight a level based enemy(because this is JUST travel no other time should this EVER be implemented) and you get a small reward like 25 gold, or run and let them get ambushed. Maybe your reward is being able to see the scenery, or if bethesda lets people do stuff without you knowing, like the caravan leaves and you don't go with them, they get ambushed and lose their stuff so the items in the stores go up a bit more in price. Maybe this should go under a new topic, idk it's just a solution to those people that don't like fast travelling but hate the slow treks across the world.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I'm going to be realistic about it. If I am not needed urgently (e.g. the city is not burning down) then I shall walk.
If a quest requires I get somewhere quickly I will take a coach (if they are in the game) or just run like hell, leaving fast travel as a last resort if I am bored (which wont happen).

Is this meant to be witty, informative or deep? I doubt I can manage all three.
Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I'll use it sparingly the first go-around
but once I have most of the locations in the world uncovered I'll amp up the usage a bit
Well, I guess it also depends on how the alternate traveling system works too - but I can't judge that yet obviously

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
Am I getting a deja-vu or was the exact same thread with the exact same title made back in March or April?
Anyway, I will not fast travel. I will be using the transportation system that has been (Thank the Nine!) confirmed.

If I feel like it. One thing's for certain: I'm not going to travel to everywhere by foot but I'm also not going to use Fast Travel all the time. If horses are quick enough then I might not use it all.

I wish fast travel was a toggleable option when you start a game.
It would be easy to implement and would, at a stroke, solve the problem of being tempted to use Fast travel if you'd rather not bother.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I never understood the hate for it. Its an incredibly useful tool, I don't think I can stress that enough. I mean yes it ruins the adventurous journey you do in the game but for me I only use it when I want something now. In Oblivion sometimes I would go from Dungeon to City on foot and when I wanted to get to a city, just use fast travel.
It doesn't have to ruin the journey aspect of the game. In a game like New Vegas I could easily just go on foot from place to place because it was fun to look at/ snipe people from higher points and explore the areas.
In Oblivion it was hard to do so. All the fun was in the dungeons and cities and most of the outside was boring, so sometimes I would travel from a fort to another dungeon or town/ruin/etc, but never to a city. It was too large and too boring. I actually tired going from the I.C. to Skingrad one-time. Took up way to much time with absolutely nothing happening on the way over there.
Its only fun when the world is dynamic and has things in between to make it more useful to travel.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
But with dragons, with dynamic behaviour, around every turn, travelling on foot/horse will never be boring again. If they implement combat whilst riding in a carriage I'll love escaping dragons. Imagine a half-drunk, crazy Nord swerving round corners while you try and shoot a dragon with an arrow!

I'm not going to. Fast travel in Oblivion pretty much ruined the game afterwards, I've never had a playthrough without it and it's tempting to use it.
I dunno, though.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I don't mind fast travel since it saves lots of time, I use it in Oblivion but I also travel by foot rather often; even if that's quite boring since the wilderness is pretty much eventless.... But in Skyrim I guess I will probably not use it frequently, at least not in the beginning, since Skyrim has awesome dragons, nature, and random encounters(I think this is confirmed...?).

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I will fast travel. I'd like to point out that 1. it's optional and 2. you need to discover locations first, so I will not be missing out on any of the amazing Skrim vistas.
In addition, I can explore whenever I want, but when I'm doing a quest, I want to do it, and I want to do it in a timely fashion.
I love to explore, but I don't want to be forced to, further, over exploration takes away from the experience. It's the law of diminishing returns

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
Personally what I think they should have done is added fewer fast travel locations, like checkpoints. So instead of going cross-map for a quest, you can fast travel to the checkpoint closest to your destination, and walk from there. I personally love walking but in such a big world like this I'm sure it will get boring doing it everywhere.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I wont be fast travelling on my first playthrough, you find more quest's and locations when you travel on foot or by horse, plus it will give me a rough idea of the landscape.
Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
This.OblivionDuruza wrote:1. it's optional
I only use fast travel in very specific occasions, like i left a city 1 minute ago and i forgot to do something. Other than that, i like to explore, hunt and gather in my travels. Most of my roleplaying comes from this, and not from inventing a background for my characters.
And since i'm almost always playing a sneaky character, i like to travel off roads, unseen.
As for my opinion on Fast Travel itself, i say leave it in, always. It's a very useful system for people who:
-Don't care about exploration
-Are lazy
-Just wanna go through the main quest and move on to the next game
-Don't have a lot of time in the day to play games, and don't want to take two years to finish it.

Re: To fast travel or not to fast travel that is the questio
I would say laziness isn't a large factor in to it, I mean have you guys honestly used travel on foot in the game. For those of you who don't use it, you must either have
-Free time to kill
-a true interest in exploration
not to say I dont like to explore just Oblivion's was not that varied or diverse, but I still explored it and the only time fast travel was used was to get from city to city if the distance was extreme (Anvil to Leyawin/Bruma) The most amount of inter city distance I did was the I.C. to Anvil and although it was fun to explore once you reached the gold coast, there's still no incentive.
Fallout had the incentive, there were random occurences on the road, people/places to see that we're not just dungeons and honestly I only fast traveled to the towns to buy ammo/guns when ever I needed something or travel to a location a good distance from the place I wanna go (Vegas to NCRCF) I.E. travel to 188 and continue on foot.
