I hate axes because they are just treated like maces. Although, I guess swords are kind of the same problem. They're sharp! They should cut things!
Actually, maybe it's just my graphics but most of the swords look really blunt to me, like toys, especially compared to the swords in Morrowind. All the edges are kind of rounded.
That's why I use magic now

Not in oblivion, I threw some calipers at an NPC and it did nothing.Daedra Prince wrote:Most medievil swords and axes were just chunks of metal hammered into a flat kind of pointy shape. Think about it if you're swinging a slab of metal at some guy its going to do some damage no matter how sharp it is.
Custom enchanted weapons are the most powerful, but as far as 'in game' weapons, here are 2 I like.
Shadowrend: Although I normally don't use claymores, this claymore is satisfying to use, looks great, and can be tricky to obtain during the SI main quest.
Hatreds Soul: This bow is special. It's the most powerful bow in the game (not including custom enchanted bows), and is somewhat difficult to obtain. I didn't read the walkthrough and only knew it was in random Oblivion world 2 -and it took a while to find the entrance to the Embers of Hatred, but after passing through tunnels with fire and lava, I found the bow.
Hatreds Soul looks like a Deadric bow, but is much lighter, and glows red sometimes. It has the highest base damage of any bow in the game -even custom ones -which helps because shots from sneak mode only triple the base damage (don't triple enchanted damge). Its only flaw is that it does not have a soul trap -you figure a bow named Hatreds Soul would take the souls! This bow is best obtained after level 19.

I agree with you lowbart. Retrieving that bow is a worthwhile quest/objective and good fun. I usually play 'good guys' but my latest character is a thief/ranger and half the reason I went through the main quest again was to open the Oblivion Planes so that I could retrieve that bow at level 19. Somehow the lava, fire, Embers of Hatred, etc, creates a good theme and backdrop to that bow.
As far as the dozen or so soul trapping arrows
. Soul trapping has to be sustainable for it to be any good, and Hatreds Soul doesn't have it -but otherwise it's a great bow.
