Market Survey!

Post by Milder Despues »

In the "contents of Skyrim collector's edition" thread i saw some some wishes that reminded me of something...

I've been tinkering with the idea of producing replicas of the books found in the games. I'm visualizing them with a heavey, authentic feel, parchment-like paper and a cool font (like say, the Morrowind one).

My initial thought for actual material would be "The Real Barenziah" for two reasons. It's very good and, compressed into one volume with some art worksy pics, could actually be long enough to fill a decent amount of pages. There might be something else that would fit the bill, like a compilation of a couple of books. Personally, I'd prefer not to extend them with fan work since that might be too subjective.

While I'm not actually seriously contemplating doing this (hmm...), I was wondering how such a stunt would be received by the faithful community. Genious, blasphemy, interesting but not worth paying for? Any other suggestions for books or something entirely different (authentic Daedric Longswords etc 8) )

P.S. Mods: Pretty sure that this doesn't qualify as marketing, shoot me down if you differ.

The Argonian Account
A Dance in Fire
The Exodus
Feyfolken
Purloined Shadows
The Wolf Queen

Make it a complete compilation of the works of Waughin Jarth, that might work, too.
And, I would totally buy an authentic The Real Barenziah.

If someone did this I would first hug or kiss them and then buy the entire collection.
Ideas:
A compilation of all the works on magic.
Palla as a novela/novellette.
Boss makes a dollar
I make a dime
That's why I'm forum posting
On company time

Thank you for your feedback and well thought-out lists, dear muthseras. :)

So compilations could be cool, just like I thought. Merging everything on dunmer culture in particular could make for a pretty hefty tome.

For testing I've simply tried copying and pasting a particular series of books into Word and used the biggest acceptable size and space to roughly measure the amount of pages. Barring the ideas of a compilation or novela (hadn't considered that, mars) only the Bravados of Barenziah seem to fill out a an actual book (with the possible exception of the 2920 series). But like I've said, it's more of an interesting thought than actual project.

@OblivionDuruza, My vague plan for the legal stuff, should this become reality, is having only two copies made and sending one to Bethesda asking them for permission of a small scale distribution. I actually think that might work (unless you can't even make a copy of their work for personal use, i.e. the two books. Then I'd get a Interpool warrant instead of a permission slip.)

That sounds like a great plan Milder! I think Bethesda would be at least interested in the prospect of building TES Lore. If you need any help with that side of things, I'm no expert and I'm not accredited (yet), but I could maybe help look into intellectual property for you.

As for a compilation, I'd actually really love a compilation solely on the Great Houses of Morrowind .

Perhaps a book on Morrowind, as Duruza suggested, would catch their attention seeing how its 10 year anniversary is less than a year away...

Cheers Duruza. I wouldn't dare intrude on your time mate, but if it ever got beyond the state of dreaming we could become business-partners. :)

And Chaos, that's another great point in favour of a dunmer compilation that I hadn't considered.
