Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
So apperently a select few NPC's will be able to use Dragon Shouts, how is this if the player is the only Dragon Born left?. Now i know alot of people are a little wimzy about the fact that the player is a Dragon Born because it takes away the element of Role Play away from them a little (wow, no big deal to me) but the fact that i am happy with being the only Dragon Born left will be ruined to think that there may be more out there pointing to the fact that other NPC's can use dragon shouts. Anyone have any take on this?

Well, as we've mentioned in other threads, the Player Character isn't the only Dragonborn. In fact, there have been many Dragonborns throughout ES history. Dragonborns are given their gift by the gods, so it depends on the person who is a Dragonborn. for instance, they are usually big heroes in the games.

I don't think I realized that other NPC's would have some of the same abilities as you. I like that. Certainly it's nice to feel like the all powerful hero, but at the same time it can feel lonely. Knowing that there are others with your skills might add new depth to the character and story.

Kind of contradicting to say the least, i was under the assumption that the player was the only dragon born left as said in the games story.

But it also makes your character less special. The shouts are more like general magic in that case, not everyone can use it but some can. Like anyone being able to wear the Moon and star ring. Not to mention that surely plenty of those able to use shouts are stronger than you (at least in the beginning) and would make better candidates for a hero.

Ahh well, atleast i still get that feeling that i'm somewhat more unique then most in Tamriel being the fact that only a handful of dragon born's exist and may use the shouts, but they could of atleast came across in this manner instead of telling us were basicly the last one.

The Greybeards have the voice. They're the ones who will teach us the way of the voice.

Re: Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
I have no problem with this, perhaps others can use the shouts but the Dovakhin is the only one able to absorb them from slain dragons? Who knows
very similar to the Septim line and the amulet of kings, and the question someone raised on these forums about how Mankar Camoran can use it despite not apparently being of the imperial line. I like it when lore seems inconsistent because it suggests a depth which defies it being just a set of rules
cool
presumably the dragons returned through something happening, maybe a 'rogue shouter' brought them back, maybe we will have a non-dragon villain in the main plot - i am sure some people will worship them and not appreciate the hero hacking his way through these noble beasts

I agree with mars on this one, I believe that the Grey Beards are the predominant NPCs that are being referred to here.mars wrote:The Greybeards have the voice. They're the ones who will teach us the way of the voice.
They will teach you a bit due to their expansive knowledge and will guide you through your quest. I'm guessing here, but I'm pretty sure you don't wake up and instantly know your going to save the world from Aludin and the Jills

Depends whether you can refer to the Dragur and Dragons as NPC's. Dragons can talk... so if you don't limit it to humanoids, yes, several of them can use Dragon Shouts.

I'd almost bet that Dragons and Dragur are 'creatures' as opposed to NPCs, but I like the thought process there

It'd definitely make some fun race editing if Dragons were NPC's...

It be pretty good having NPCs using Dragon Shouts. Make combat more interesting then some NPC randomly bashing away at your shield

I just want to say that the Dragonborn have the souls of dragons. I don't think this means they exclusively have the voice. Obviously, the Greybeards have the voice, so I think being Dragonborn just means you can absorb the souls of other dragons. Most of this has already been said, I just wanted to point out that the soul doesn't mean the tongue.

Re: Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
Perhaps in a way it is somewhat like magic in ff13 in which only l'cie have a natural ability to cast magic but others (psicom) have harnessed the ability through certain means. This will add a whole new perspective into the game. Finding who harnessed it and how will be interesting. If not then Yh probably greybeards. Or decendants of them

Re: Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
Thuum (dragon shouts now) is a form of nordic spiritual magic. Its been around as long as the nords, just limited to skyrim. The player character and a few others may be the only ones to use the dragon shout variant, but we were never the only ones to use the voice.

The last Dragonborn I believe was Tiber Septim. (I could be wrong). He had to withstand the voice from the graybeards. Maybe a sort of fight with them may happen to see if you are worthy.

Based on the interviews I have read, it's my understanding that there are only three types of NPCs who can use dragon shouts:-Dovahkiin- wrote:So apperently a select few NPC's will be able to use Dragon Shouts, how is this if the player is the only Dragon Born left?. 2. Dragon Priests
3. Dragons (obviously)

Re: Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
Well I think it would be nice.
The history already confirms it, so it wouldn't be changed, but its okay by me.
It would be nice to go on a lil' rage around shouting guards and stuffz when someone comes by and AAAAH (or RAWR!, I really don't know) and you get blown away.
Gf, nice PvP, hahaha.

Can I mod finally make me a confirmed user? I'm pretty sure I done everything for a while now and still can't do things.

Re: Certain NPC's also able to use Dragon Shouts
I'd be upset if NPCs using dragon shouts were random, but so long as there is a plausible, lore-based explanation for specific types possessing that ability I don't think it's a big deal. I now wonder if our characters will have the option to become Dragon Priests.

I think you would have to die first.
(Dragon Priests are undead I believe)
