Oblivion in HD, need suggestions. [360, Monitor related]

Post by Mastodon Magik »

Sorry, not sure if there is where I should post this but it's my best guess.

I recently just got a 360, first game was the obvious choice Oblivion and I could not imagine how fun the game is, right so lets cut to the chase. I do not own an HDTV. I cannot afford an HDTV living in a 2 bedroom with my gf and going to school so what I need to know is.

How good/bad are a really nice 22" high end monitors for 360 play. It's a much cheaper option and I believe it can run the games in 1080P? Also new monitors have DVI ports so it works out just fine.

Could anyone shed some light on this, as well as suggestions for monitors that won't strech/skew my image?

Thanks a lot!

Send the gf out to work so she can buy you an HDTV! You know if she really loved you she'd do that for you!!

I think that mostly HD outputs are designed only to accept screens with approved HD inputs - this means that you are going to have to cough up the money for an expensive new TV, or maybe an expensive approved monitor, if you want decent resolution.

It might have changed since then, and I know there are ways around the restrictions if you know where to look, but this forum doesn't seem too friendly to that kind of discussion.

My suggestion: If you have a decent computer, return Oblivion and your 360 and buy the PC version :D

I constantly use a computer flat-panel monitor to play my 360 (at a friend's house). While the monitor isn't technically HD I can notice a significant increase in picture quality than my own 32" flatscreen (purchased prior to the HD movement). The only issues you'll run into if you go the PC monitor route is that your audio will have to be routed through separate speakers (since most flat panels don't come equipped with speakers) which means hunting down the proper converters/adapters.

All in all I don't think that you'd suffer performance/picture deterioration if you tried out a monitor instead of a TV.

hmm yeah was sorta reading into it as well as the above poster sounds right, with monitors these days the picture quality is pretty impressive. The speaker thing seems to be easily remedied these days with PC speakers that have all the inputs needed.

Thanks! I think i'll be going that route.

The picture quality of a monitor is going to be better than a TV even if you don't have HD.
