Lv1

Yes the armor is a little stronger 15+, but having the sword from lv1 is a huge bonus, IMO.

Oh so the sword doesn't change after any certain level like the armor?

Depends...
The armor and sword help the most at level 1. Yes, the armor gets stronger at level 15, but only as strong as ebony. Before then it's as strong as Orcish, and Full orcish at level 1 is a very nice thing.

But!
If you wait till you've started Vile's quest, you can return and refuse to him before getting the sword, after hearing about it. Then, you can go and get the sword and have it stay weightless forever, which can be very nice.

The sword isnt leveled, only the armor. I suggest level 1 (see tips for defeating umbra on the wiki)

note. apotheosis (at rindir's staffs) is the easier way

I think I got it at 16 or 20, not sure. I'd say 20. No matter what, she's always hard. I remember for whatever reason the sword went from 26 to 30 for attack. Don't know why. :?

Maybe your blade, strength, or luck increased. Those affect damage done by blades. Luck is super-important, but hard to lvl.

If you ever get into a habit of making potions, make "damage luck". They can change an opponent's attack from say like 30 to 16.

I killed umbra at lvl 1. I stood on one of the ledges in the chamber she lives in, and kept on casting flare on her. it took a while, but I was a lvl 1 with full ebony.
