Installed this version of daggerfall:
"DaggerfallSetup is a ready to play Daggerfall install compatible with modern Windows Systems. The game already includes patch 2.13 and the official CompUSA Special Edition questpack, and will work with an already configured DosBox. You can install all unofficial fixes at this time via options, as well as new quests and translations."
Created a spellsword character and entered the first dungeon ...
I can cast personal spells Chameleon and Slow falling without any problems but cannot cast Shock and recieve the message "Press a button to fire spell" I've tried all mouse buttons and keyboard presses without luck ... tried with view mode on and off. The mana is used up yet the spell does not fire.
Changed settings in dosbox to :
core=normal
cputype=pentium_slow
cycles=30000
no success
Anyone experience this and solved it?

Re: Cannot cast offensive spells in Daggerfall
The prompt you get means the action button. I think the standard one is enter. I have changed it to "E". You can change your controls in the menu. Go there and check "Activate center object". That is the button that fires the spell.
Question: Is it an "On Target" or an "On Touch" spell? The latter fires pretty fast and may not be visible in some cases.

Re: Cannot cast offensive spells in Daggerfall
I remapped my "Activate center object" to to my middle mouse button. In view mode it worked fine when I had a rat centered on the screen. It won't cast if there isn't any enemies in front of you ... which was part of my problem testing heh!
My daggerfall manual had stated to use the left mouse button to fire off the spell ... which doesn't work in view mode ... only in cursor mode.
Glad I got this sorted out ..
Thanks for your help mars
