I have mixed feelings about the book. The plot and writing are a bit weak (the plot more so) but it offers some interresting insight on Khajiiti and Argonian culture. It's also quite cheap and I generally found it to be a good read. Make of that what you will.

I think that if you've thought about it, then it's worth getting. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but it is an insight into the Elder Scrolls world.

if you're into TES lore (i.e. must know everything) I'd suggest getting it.
Who knows? maybe the Lord of Souls will be better and fill in plot holes

It's a good enough book although I'm not finished reading it yet. It's not the best book but if your into TES then it's worth getting. There are some really cool parts and gives you insight to what has been happening since the end of Oblivion.

I will say that The Infernal City is good for a hardcore TES fan, since it gives some idea into what happens post-Oblivion, and who wouldn't eat that up?

Of course, I have been trying to read the book for four months now...and I just can't finish. I can't. I don't know what it is about the style, but I find it so out of touch with what I imagine TES to be that it's hard to read. The story isn't really awful - in fact, I think it is interesting. But the writing style...ugh. It bothers me.

If you are curious about what members of the UESP Forums community have to say about this, you could peak through some of the older threads in the Lore subforum; we've discussed this issue quite a few times, and sometimes with quite the passion!

Keyes has an interesting writing style, almost staccato in the way he rotates perspectives. I read his books based on the New Jedi Order series, where his writing style had more success in that gave the read both sides of a war and all the characters had some interaction. Whereas in IC, the characters don't have much of a connection to eachother (aside from the two who start out together). Also he has a habit of writing in cliff-hangers and then going to another character, either testing your patience as you wait for the character 'cycle' to come back to full swing or you completely forget about it as you get back to another character's plot-line.

I have no doubt that Lord of Souls will be better, simply because it will resolve his tendencies for unrelated characterizations and multiple cliff-hangers (Provided this is the end of this particular plot)
