"Please, cheer up. I've stopped being snarky, but that isn't helping." Ashriel said earnestly.

"I suggest we all stay quiet until we've reached the base." Lithnilillin said. "That way everyone can calm down."

Gladro nodded at Lithnilillin and stayed quiet as he suggested.

After a somewhat long journey, the armored car stopped at a small building at the side of the road that looked like a Shard outpost. Two ICA soldiers were guarding the building's door. Logan rolled down his window. "How's it goin', mate?" he said to one of the Shards.

The Shard approached the car. "Logan!" he shouted happily. He did not speak with the voice of a Shard. He seemed to speak with the voice of a Human. It was an amazing disguise. The two "Shards" were each wearing ICA uniforms and even had black eyes.

"We've got the eight mortals the General sent for." Logan told the mortal in disguise. "But they're dirty as hell and they're wearing little more than rags."

The mortal in disguise pointed to the building. "The showers are available." he said. "And we've still got some nice clothing. Bring them out!"

"Alright." Logan said as he hopped out of the driver's seat.

Dragovan turned around and looked at the eight mortals in the car. "These guys are friendly." he said to them. "In case you haven't noticed, they're not actually Shards. They're rebels. And if you're wondering how they got the black eyes, they used special eye drops to make their eyes appear totally black. But if you look closely, you can still see their pupils. The one Logan was talking to is named Jeffrey. The other one is named William. They're both Humans."

Logan opened the back doors. "Come on out." he said to the eight mortals. "Time to clean you guys up and get you some decent clothes."

Hremai climbed out of the car, and looked around, taking in the unfamiliar scenery.

"You know, it's actually quite nice to be out here. Even though I'll probably wind up dead."

Laeriel slowly lowered herself out of the vehicle, maintaining a polite distance from everyone. Her eyes cautiously flicked about the surroundings, jumping at any sudden movement.

Dragovan stood near the building with a clipboard as the eight got out of the armored car. "Frost Elf, Laeriel Caethernani?" he said to himself. "Check. Woodland Elf, Aarys Breá? Check. Drow, Hremai...oh hell, I can't pronounce that name. Check. Moon Elf, Gladro Telind? Check. Frost Elf, Ashriel Vega? Check. Moon Elf, Lithnilillin Eruveth? Check. Human, Valentin Fairfax? Check. Sun Elf, Raulfonari Omneri? Check. Human, Peter Barnes? Check." He smiled. "Fantastic! We've got everyone on the list."

"Please don't bother with the name. If I ever get a cool nickname, I'm going to use that as my real surname," Hremai said, shaking her head a bit. "But how did you know about this transport. And our names on top of that?"

"We have nine informants inside Empire City." Dragovan told Hremai, still looking over the clipboard. "We communicate using messenger birds. The ICA was relocating you to a remote facility up north. When the word 'relocation' is spoken by the Shards, it usually means death. So we were sent to rescue you and bring you back to the base. We've still got a long way to go. We'll be staying here for the night."

William gathered Logan, Dragovan, Lyra, and each of the eight mortals inside the building. Jeffrey stayed outside. The inside of the building was completely empty. The only unique aspect of the small room as a lever near the door. William pulled the lever, and the floor itself began to move downward. It was like an elevator.

When the floor stopped moving, another door slid open, revealing a large and luxurious room with many other doors on each of the walls. The room contained a fireplace, three couches, and many large chairs. It was an entire underground facility. "This used to actually be an ICA outpost." William said. "But then we took it over and adopted these disguises."

Logan, Dragovan and Lyra each stepped out of the elevator. Dragovan pointed to the third door on the right wall. "The showers are through that door." he said. "And don't worry. Each of the showers themselves are divided by walls. You won't be able to see each other in the nude. Towels are located in small compartments next to each shower. When you're all finished, we'll bring each of you bath robes and take you to the dressing rooms and get you some decent clothing."

"Oh, look at this!" Hremai said, walking into the room. "It's ridiculous that we had to live in a trashcan. Bloody demons!"

She walked over to the door to the showers, and peered inside. "Oh my god! Now, if You'd excuse me!" She slipped inside the door and disappeared.

"This is so beautiful." Raul could not believe his eyes.
He then ran to the door where the showers were contained in he looked back for a moment at Dragovan."I can't thank you enough sir! You have made my life worth living!"He then opened the door, and dashed inside.
Regards.

"This is a really nice place." Gladro said. He then walked quickly towards the showers. He striped down and stood under the flow of water, as he smiled.

After a moment of examining her surroundings, the female Frost Elf stepped cautiously toward the showers. She let out a sigh of relief after slipping out of her clothes and under the water, fiddling with the controls to make the water's temperature ice cold.

Valentin approached the fireplace. He stared at the flames for a good while. It was one of the first times he'd seen wood being burned instead of people or buildings. He thought for a moment and then turned for the showers. He entered and turned on the hot water. It felt amazing.
