Just across the street from the apartment building, ten ICA soldiers force ten mortals (two of them being small children) to line up against the wall of another building. The soldiers then each point their rifles at them and simultaneously fire, killing all of them instantly (including the children). Afterwards, the soldiers turn and march down the street in an organized fashion, leaving the dead bodies of the ten innocent mortals to rot.

Raul headed back into his bedroom awaiting to be harassed by the ICA yet again. For he has accepted it by now.
He sighed and sat on his mattress, hunched forward, in deep thought as he heard the gunfire being released upon the innocent.

Peter was rudely awakened from his troubled slumber by the crude commands of ICA personnel just outside of the dilapidated apartment building, followed by the sounds of gunfire. It was obvious some sort of execution had just commenced; the rounds were fired in an orderly manner, and no return fire could be heard.

Peter had slept in his shirt and pants, as he had felt rather cold that last evening; he slipped out of bed, donned his footwear, and stood near the door to his apartment as to be clearly present when the interlopers entered. Peter rubbed his chin as he stood in waiting, attempting to dissuade the feelings of tiredness that had followed him from his uncomfortable bed.

"So tell me. What were Sally and Levine doing here?" Ashriel said quietly.

Barvel answered, but his voice was drowned out by gunfire. A thoughtful look appeared on his face, and he said "Well, that's why. Simple, really." And walked away.

"I know when someone is being secretive with me." Ashriel said. "This is a game you can't win, daddy dear."

Gladro had already dressed and had been awake for half an hour. He was reading his only book using his father's lighter for light, a pocket guide to the arcane arts with half the pages torn out. It remined him of times long gone. He placed the book under his mattress and his lighter in his pocket. Gladro peaked out his window after hearing the sound of gunfire. He knew the shots were from an execution close to the apartment. "Better them than me." he muttered under his breath. He knew it was going to be a hard day ahead.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Aarys watched the shooting from her window, feeling the bile rising in her throat. She turned away, taking a steadying breath. She raked the knots out of her hair as well as she could, pulled on her jacket, and sat on her cot, waiting.

Valentin immediately arose from his mattress at the hearing of the gunfire. It sent chills down his spine. At first, he thought it was rebels attacking the Shards. He's heard so many rumors about a revolution being planned. For a moment, he thought it had begun. But when he heard the marching boots that followed with no return fire, he knew it was just another ruthless execution.

He stood and rubbed his face, slowly buttoning his shirt and slipping on his boots. He was so tired.
"Uhh...Shut up, Beavis!"

"You need to tell me, what are you doing with Sally and Levine?" Ashriel asked again.

"I cannot say! For god's sake, Ashriel! Do not ask these questions! All I will say is that it is better if, against god's will, we are caught, I don't want you getting n trouble with us."

"So you are doing something illegal. Haha! I knew it!" Ashriel exclaimed.

"Don't those collars on your wrists work? What would you behave like if they didn't drain your energy?"

Ashriel shrugged. "I'd probably be bouncing off the walls, or Shard's heads." He then lost his serious composure and laughed. "Tell me, already! Illegal secrets are the best kind of secrets!"

Barvel sighed. "All I will tell you is this: Despite what it may seem, myself, Mr. Xedare and Ms. Pennyway are talented individuals. We just want the world to be a better place."

Ashriel sighed. "That's all I'm getting out of you? Fine, then." Ashriel then dropped a small, homemade firecracker down a vent and it fell to the first floor, making a large crack and bang. As Ashriel went to do something else, he quickly turned to Barvel.

"A revolutionist, huh? Never thought you had it in you, old man."

Spoiler:
It's screwed up life time. :Twisted Evil:
Suddenly, the sound of many marching boots echoed through the halls. Sixteen ICA soldiers marched down the hallway in two oragnized lines. They then each split up into teams of two.

Two of the soldiers apprached Laeriel Caethernani's door. One of them slammed his fist on the door. "Laeriel Caethernani!" he shouted in his deep, demonic, and snake-like voice. "Open this door!"

Another two approached Aarys Breá's door. One of them violently knocked. "Aarys Breá!" he shouted. "You are ordered to open this door immediately!"

The third team of two approached Hremai Xtershqond-Xtraktxdaun's door. "Hremai Xtershqond-Xtraktxdaun!" he boomed. "Open the door now!"

Two approached Gladro Telind's room. "Gladro Telind!" one of them shouted as he slammed his fist on the door. "Open the door, or face punishment!"

Two more approached Ashriel Vega's door. One of them violently knocked. "Ashriel and Barvel Vega!" he roared. "Open the door now!"

Another team approached Lithnilillin Eruveth's room. "Lithnilillin Eruveth!" one of them shouted as he knocked. "We order you to open this door, or face consequences!"

Two others approached Valentin Fairfax's room. The first knocked. "Valentin Fairfax!" he hissed. "Open this door!"

Two more headed towards Raulfonari Omneri's room. One of them slammed his fist on the door. "Raulfonari Omneri!" he roared. "Open this door now!"

The last two approached Peter Barnes's room. "Peter Barnes!" the first shouted as he violently knocked on the door. "You are ordered to open the door!"

Barvel flinched when the Shards came at their door. "This isn't usual. Son, get in the corner." Barvel ordered.

"Like hell I am, dad. I'm right behind you." Ashriel said confidently.

"Son," Barvel said, more strict, "Get in the corner."

Something in Barvel's voice persuaded Ashriel to do so. "Ugh, fine." He sat on the mattress in the corner and tried to look uninterested and bored as Barvel swung the door open and faced the Shards without moving.

"May I help you." Barvel said dryly.

The second soldier immediately rushed inside the room and forced Aarys against the wall. He searched her high and low for any types of weapons or tools. He even searched her mouth for anything suspicious. The search was very rough, and it would surely leave a few bruises. "She's clean." the soldier finally said.

"Good." the first soldier replied.

The two Shards then threw Aarys into the hallway. Afterwards, they began searching her room for weapons.

"Are you Ashriel or Barvel Vega?" one of the Shards asked Barvel

- - -

"Are you Raulfonari Omneri?" one of the Shards asked Raul.

"That depends." Barvel crossed his arms. "Who are you looking for?"

Ashriel was amazed at his father's calmness and confidence when it came this sort of situation. Maybe "Barvel Vega, revolutionist" wasn't so out of the question. The thought made his head spin.

"We're looking for both." the Shard told Barvel.

The second soldier violently forced Raul against the wall and began searching him for weapons or tools. He searched Raul's pockets, shirt, pants, shoes, and even his mouth. "He's clean." the Shard finally said.

Aarys grimly readjusted her clothes, and spat inconspicuously. A bitter taste had clung to the Shard's leather glove.

Barvel sighed. "I am Barvel Vega. My son is in the corner."

Ashriel giggled at the sight of the Shard's face. "I love how you guys are always so serious." He said. "You can't say something silly, can you? Try repeating after me: How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

Spoiler:
Alright guys. I'm leaving my cousin's soon. I'll be around for about 45 more minutes. :)
The second Shard forced Valentin against the wall and searched him in every possible area for weapons of tools. They even searched his mouth. "He's clean." the soldier finally said.

"Alright." the first replied. "Into the hallway, then."

The two Shards threw Valentin into the hallway and started searching his room for weapons.

- - -

Without even glancing at Ashriel, the first soldier drew his MP 40 submachine gun and mercilessly emptied a magazine into Barvel's chest. The second soldier rushed into the room and forced Ashriel against the wall as his father was blasted across the room. Blood was everywhere. As the soldier searched Ashriel for weapons, he leaned forward towards Ashriel's ear. "How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?" he whispered.

Raul got up and wiped the dirt from his clothes and glaring at the guards whom were tearing apart his room.
Breaking apart from his angry stare, he then realized how exhausted he was from working yesterday.
He sat on the floor and began to look around the hallway.

Peter opened the door promptly, smiling in a sarcastic and disrespectful manner towards the pair of ICA soldiers. The grin accented his short, ragged beard strangely, giving the 35 year old a cheerful and falsely optimistic appearance; he let one hand remain on the doorknob so that the door was not opened fully.

"Can I help you?" Peter prompted.
