Have any of you given a lot of thought to how you may incorporate that into your Skyrim roleplay?

All PCs Will Be Part Human?
Emphasis on the question mark, since I don't feel like my understanding of lore is solid enough to state that as a fact. It seems only logical to me though, that if all of your characters are dragonborn (descendents of St. Alessia) then no matter what race you choose for your characters they will be part human.

You can easily ignore that fact that your character is "dragonborn."
That's what i'm going to do.
That's what i'm going to do.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
Of course you can ignore your character being dragonborn, and because it's a single-player game you can also ignore the lore and play a full-blooded whatever-you-picked and still be dragonborn. However I'm wondering if some players are going to make the revelation of being part human a part of character development, or if their characters will have one human parent and one non-human parent.Jake-uh wrote:You can easily ignore that fact that your character is "dragonborn."

I'm planning to do both with multiple characters, but since this only dawned on me recently I haven't planned anything too extensive. I think it's pretty exciting though.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
I have no clue why.
But I have absolutly NO motivation to RP as dragonborn.
I can't wait to continue with my family that I have at the moment though!

Hopefully by the point where the tutorial is over and you officially are set free to do whatever the hell you want, it hasn't been revealed to you that you're Dragonborn yet. That would make it extremely easy to avoid roleplaying as one.Jake-uh wrote:I have no clue why.

The human element could have been at least a couple hundred years back in your ancestry as well, couldn't it?

All children take after their mothers in TES lore.
If an Imperial male got jiggy with an Orc, the child would be an Orc.

Maybe you just ate a Dragonborn and became one as a result? Could be from an unknown Dragonborn blood-line, as dragons have existed before after all.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
I have never read that a Dragonborn has to be a descendant of St. Alessia. Tiber Septim would make more sense as he is of Nordic descent. Hence the canon character will be a Nord. But I don't think that there is a line of Dragonborn. They simply are Dragonborn for reason that we will learn in the game.

Maybe your character gets picked up by a Dragon at the start of the game, and thereby becomes Dragonborne…

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
Dragonborn are individuals who have been granted their powers from the gods (or something). The PC character might not be of Septim blood or human. Evidence: Mankar Cameron ( either through mistake or purposefully) wears the Amulet of Kings when he has it, suggesting that he may (Like Ureil and Martin Septim) be descendant of another entirely different line of Dragonborn.

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
Well, like another post above me, Mankar Camoran could wear the Amulet of Kings, thus he would have to be a Dragonborn, however, maybe they all stemmed from St. Alessia's bloodline.
For example, St. Alessia could have had a son who had a child with a Bosmer, but then she died and he remarried a Nord or Imperial and then from there spawns all of these different families. Far-fetched but possible.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
Does everything ever state that there is only one line of dragonborns? Whats is with the greybeards are the all relatives to Tiber Septim then? Sounds not very plausible.

I don't know why people don't get it. Being Dragonborn has nothing to do with lineage.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
This is correct, the Dragonborn is specifically someone born (or granted by the grace of the gods) with the soul of a dragon, whether it's from heredity or simply a mortal chosen by the gods. In the case of Skyrim's hero, he's been given his powers from the gods, not from lineageToTheMadhouse wrote:Dragonborn are individuals who have been granted their powers from the gods (or something). Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
@Tralares: Yes, stupid mistake on my part. The Greybeards existed before Tiber Septim therefore there must have been many other bloodlines of Dragonborn.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
I don't think that Dragonborn means you have to be a descendent of Alessia. Todd Howard has only said that it means you are 'imbued with the soul of a dragon.' Maybe the line is drawn there.
Because I don't know about an Argonian getting freaky with an Imperial. Not only does it seem morally wrong, but genetically wrong. A reptile and a mammal? Really? It's Biology 101, man.

Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
The MQ in Oblivion left me with the impression that the descendents of St. Alessia were the only Dragonborn folks in all of Tamriel, but I can see now that's not the case. Most of the replies here have been very informative, and I thank you all for making me a little wiser when it comes to TES lore.
Bethesda swept "Biology 101" under the rug when it gave Argonian women boobies. Then again, the male gaze isn't being catered to in this particular instance, so I can see why science and plausibility are suddenly a concern.Doctor Meaticus wrote:Because I don't know about an Argonian getting freaky with an Imperial. Re: All PCs Will Be Part Human?
One thing, if biology applies then any mix race will be unable to breed. Therefore if what you purpose is true, there will be no children for the PC (unless they're human).
Then again, I don't think that being human is a requirement for being a dragonborn. I remember having this discussion in another thread, I'll try and find it for you.

Hybrids can't breed. An Altmer and a Bosmer would be okay.
As for Bretons, the Nedic and Altmeri genus must be fairly similar, or we could leave science out of the entire fantasy affair couldn't we
