Achieving higher fps?
Alright, so how do you "unlock" Oblivion to get maximum fps? I'm locked at 30 fps, which isn't much to complain about but I want to get higher to see what its like. For instance, the new minecraft update let you set your fps to maximum. Before I did this, I would get 60 fps on the dot all the time, like I was locked there. But since I set it to maximum, I get 150-250 most of the time, and at some moments I can get up to 700 fps! Can you do this with Oblivion? Because I've seen people talk about themselves getting 40-70 fps, so I know going over 30 is possible.

Do you have any mods on like Oblivion Stutter Remover? Because I think that it limits your FPS. Apart from that the only thing I can think of is making sure Vsync is off?zzfallens wrote:Alright, so how do you "unlock" Oblivion to get maximum fps? Is this meant to be witty, informative or deep? I doubt I can manage all three.

Yeah I do have stutter remover... should I try to delete that? And yes vsync is disabled (it crashes oblivion if its enabled

You don't have to delete it. Just open up sr_Oblivion_Stutter_Remover.ini and find the section called FPS_Management, then find the variable MaximumFPS and change it to something that you think is suitable.zzfallens wrote:Yeah I do have stutter remover... should I try to delete that? 30 FPS!!! What are complaining about?!
Running on full specs, and about 50 mods, I can only manage around 10-15 FPS.
But I suppose you could try closing some background processors, under the Task Manager. That tends to help FPS, also tuning down the graphics in game, like turning shadows off, water ripples, sliding the grass distance bar to naught... pretty much removing things that don't need to be there.

Re: Achieving higher fps?
I deleted it anyway. I don't want to be locked at a specific frame rate, and I don't really stutter that much so I don't really need the plugin.
Thanks for the help though. I get around 70 fps during game play now. Much appreciated

What is the point of 700 frames per second? If that's not a typo, that's simply ridiculous. The human eye can't even detect that many. Generally 50-70 is the highest you need, but even that's pushing it. Heck, Halo 3 is locked at 30 FPS and doesn't chop.

But you're right, the human eye can see smooth motion at 50-60 FPS and most monitors are 60Hz, meaning they can only display 60FPS anyway. If it weren't the case all older games would have to be capped to stop them going at really high FPS's and making them look like they're in slow motion.
I hope I'm right about that, because I just recycled a physics lesson from 6 months ago, and I'm not sure if it's correct or not.

Lol I said 70. You okay?SquareRobot wrote:What is the point of 700 frames per second? If that's not a typo, that's simply ridiculous. The human eye can't even detect that many. Generally 50-70 is the highest you need, but even that's pushing it. Heck, Halo 3 is locked at 30 FPS and doesn't chop.
Still though, look at Call of Duty side by side with Halo, 30 fps is a lot different than 60.
