Fable 3=Horrible?
I watched a video of the gameplay for this game, and I facepalmed when I saw how horribly done the AI, character design, User Interface, and combat system is. Yet I have friends who completely turn down the Elder Scrolls for the Fable series. Is the game as suckish as it looks, and how is it possible for someone to like Fable more than ES?
Also, for you die hard Fable fans, I have played it, for just a little while, and I thought it sucked.

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
I agree with this.
Fable one, was honestly a pretty decent game in my opinion.
And then...it just....AHHHHHH!
Basically, it just got smaller and smaller of a game, it took me less than a day for me to beat everything on Fable 3
And like two or three on Fable 2.
What I think that happened, is that Lionhead started to care more about, how cool your character looked, while he was doing everything in the game. Then everything in the game your character looked cool in. The content just shrunk, and shrunk, yet your character had MORE and MORE custimization options each time around.
It's rather sad..

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
Then again, when I ask people why they like Fable so much, they do argue pretty much only with the "My character looks so awesome with a set of armor made of human skulls!!! Oblivion characters look stupid. They look so plain and boring!" Ugh... They don't know what substance is, clearly. They would look at a Skyrim trailer and say, "What's so great about it? You can't have guns or have sex, it's not even worth it." I just... Gah!

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
Fable is the most horrible RPG series ever created. I didn't even like the first one. It was downright boring.
@Weasel: Don't get into arguments over video games with people like that. It's going to drive you nuts, believe me.

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
I am going to make a list on things that are wrong with Fable. IMO
1. Sex, why so much sex? Aren't you a hero? Not a [&@%!]..
2. I hate RPG's that literally FORCE moral levels on you, one reason why I like TES is that you can personalize your own morals, like you would do realistically.
3. Unlike in TES you can't look at everything in a detailed manner as you actually should be able to in every RPG. Do you know what i'm getting at?
4. Why in the heck, would I want a game, where I get nagged at all day, by my spouse?
5. Every weapon type feels the same.
6. No immersion, what so ever.
7. No companions.
8. Too easy.
9. Too short.
10. Playing a role playing game isn't about how nice your hair looks, or how many nice dresses you have. It's about ROLE PLAYING.

Mm.. agreed.
One was, "Hey, this is actually pretty good! Can't wait for the second one."
Second, "Well, that was horribly disappointing..."
Three, "I can't believe I even thought about buying this game..."
Yahtzee sums it up perfectly!

You watched a gameplay video and judge it? I have no idea what you're talking about with the AI, because it is done pretty well, the characters are deep and interesting and funny. The Sanctuary is a stroke of genius on Lionhead's part.
The Combat system kept me in the game and interested.
You only played it 'for just a little while' and you think it 'sucked'. I'd suggest playing through the whole game.

I really like the fable games a lot, I've played all of them, though I think that the first one was the best

I think it lacked Replayability more than anything else. Granted the storyline was predictable and rather tiresome. I've played it a few times through so i can claim on that. But Replayability (for me) justifies whether i keep the game at all.Arch-Mage Matt wrote:The things wrong with this post...VirtualWeasel wrote:I watched a video of the gameplay for this game, and I facepalmed when I saw how horribly done the AI, character design, User Interface, and combat system is. I wouldn't have so much of a problem with the series if it didn't have guns and being good on the third game wasn't so expensive.

This is why I asked in the post if the game is as bad as it seems and looks. I clearly can't judge if the entire game was terrible, and I guess it was bad on my part if it came off that way.Arch-Mage Matt wrote:The things wrong with this post...VirtualWeasel wrote:I watched a video of the gameplay for this game, and I facepalmed when I saw how horribly done the AI, character design, User Interface, and combat system is. Well, a video can give a good idea. I played 1 and 2, I liked them both, though I saw in 2 it (The series) was going a direction that wasn't what I played 1 soo many dang times for. From what I saw in a video for 3, the combat was kinda dumbed, I saw this guy attack a horde of bad guys, they only attacked once, and they never dodged...The player used flourish once, maybe twice. And I also watched the Angry Joe video, and I don't have to play the game to realize how they set up inventories was kinda complicated versus pressing a button and having all in front of you.
And I liked the weapon morphing idea, I was pretty disappointed that you have to unlock achievements, and i think make progress here and there, to get some. One even requires you to pay money for an ad-on pack (Could be wrong, going from memory) to unlock one. Now that's wrong in my opinion. I thought the weapons would morph with your alignments, which would have been a better system, cause it would feel like the weapons are more attached to you.
I don't mind what areas they put in the game, so long as they have a purpose besides storing your accumulated junk. Don't get me wrong ,the sanctuary looks nice, but it's purpose and what it adds to loading screens and menus isn't needed at all.
This is all just me though, if I can press a button to access my stuff and get right back to it, that is how I want it done. The more loading screens I see, the more I get bored and irritated.
And I've also become kinda cynical to Lionhead for some choices on how much Day/Week 1 DLC and add-ons they put in. I don't like being nickle-and-dime'd for content they clearly could have put in the game from the start. And how they have been slipping from roots on what drew me to Fable. I do want armor back in the game, real thought on magic spells, combat difficulty, difficulties in general, A.I intelligence, and the goodies that were in 1 and 2.
If Lionhead could essentially do a game on par with Fable 1, and implement what I detailed, I'd be happy. They have done a great job with customization, in 2 I loved how they made the economy more dynamic then just buying a house and shop, the combat in Fable 1 was more satisfying, since I felt like weapons have weight and some diversity. Hammers were slow, swords were fast, axes were balanced, and two handers looked were pretty cool (I know I'm forgetting a weapon or two). Now they did have this in Fable 2, but guns kinda took focus off other weapons. You could always have essentially used one form of attack through all the games, but the guns got really overpowered at the end, especially the legendary guns...I remember some of the bows at the end of 1 were pretty ridiculous with damage output, but the harder enemies still stood after a couple shots. Some guns though I think I was 1-shotting the harder enemies, which I didn't like. I know it's simply progression of technology, and I can understand that, while it was the medieval period that drew me in. I understood guns would be implemented through the story arch I read about, but the power should have been lowered a tad, or make the enemies more durable and resistant.
Speaking of story archs, I haven't seen no hide nor hair of the arch I remember. Wasn't it gonna be the fall of the original Heroes Guild, and the eventual resurgence of it as the protectors of the world once more? What happened? It's a 5-part series, or did this change? The original idea was good, heroes are always needed, and the guild being rebuilt and a new batch of heroes (While kinda cliche) would have been fitting since the original guilds downfall left Albion with little heroes. I could see the progression as 2 and 3 could have set this up and the progression through future games showing the need of a guild , and the guild grow from a couple heroes, to a fortress that would stand as a landmark and a warning to evil, and some big bad evil being defeated.
Which makes me think of how no truly proper final boss battle has been in the latest 2 games. Jack was easy, but he was a good boss and fun, what is an RPG with no good finale battle? I know it's not what an RPG is about, but think about it, the TES games, Borderlands, Mass Effect, and KoTOR, these have traditional final bosses, and you usually have a reason to kill them, and it's at the end...No big battle at the middle, then the rest is managing this and that. Two has you, or an NPC kill the big guy off with one shot, not fun.
I dunno, I'm traditional, so I can't get behind a letdown when I feel a big build up...This is all my views, I know it's not everyone's.
Tl;DR: I feel like the series needs to look at what it does and seek it's roots with some mechanics and ask what the fans wants. As it's going right now, it's kinda downhill from what I see. I love the series, so I don't want it to die cause of poor choices.

There is a final boss, but you probably won't realize it until after you've killed it, since there's still about another 30 minutes of playing until the ending. It's the giant spire shard.FireAcolyte wrote:Two has you, or an NPC kill the big guy off with one shot, not fun.

I actually loved Fable 3... until I became the regent. I loved Fable 2, also. I understand the flaws, and it will never compare to TES... but they're still pretty good.

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
I know, I try and block that fight out...It wasn't satisfying, and I had no interest in fighting some floating relic. I wanted to fight Lucien at the top of the spire to free the others, that would have been pretty grand...What's sad is that it may seem like I had high-expectations for Fable 2, but I always keep mine to a minimum so I don't over-hype it for myself, and these did let me down.videogmer314 wrote:There is a final boss, but you probably won't realize it until after you've killed it, since there's still about another 30 minutes of playing until the ending. Spire though was a VERY nice setting ,I liked it, it was a neat place, and the demeanor it had was fitting for a place that would be the graves of thousands for a lunatic wanting a different world no matter how it happened. So putting an end to that man in a more grand fashion would have been nice...However, I can take respect in this letdown in that it showed that you didn't have to be a powerful hero to accomplish your goals, just had to have influence and a position of power. Which was pretty neat in it's own right.
I was invested in killing Jack though, he was a legendary hero, and he had done horrible things to you and your family. When I fought him, I felt engrossed in the battle. No matter how many times I fought him, I enjoyed it every time. I loved him as a villain, and showing who was stronger with a big fight was nice. Lucien could still die as he did, if they had a character that was among the lines of Jack, in that you like him/her as a villain and can't wait to fight them, cause you think it'll be a fun fight. I'd have felt a better sense of accomplishment, but nope pop Lucien in the head, get wish, and kiss the spire goodbye cause you'll never go to it again.

Re: Fable 3=Horrible?
I'm also not that big of a fan of the setting. It just doesn't sound that interesting to explore Victorian England with someone who can use magic and is being guided by a blind seeress who may or may not be over 500 years old* who tries to take over the world country so that he can do basically the same thing the former king was doing (although your methods may vary).
