I've got one for you. If you had to play the game with only 1 school of Elder Scrolls magic, Or to make it more interesting, if you were given one school of magic to use in the real world, which one would it be?
You can have all of the playable schools but also things like necromancy etc...
Maybe this should be in the new TES General section?
But nonetheless, I would chose Alteration because it would make my life much easier. Or maybe Mysticism if it was a combination of the mysticism of Morrowind and Oblivion.
Restoration. Think of the ability to cure diseases and poisons in seconds, being able to heal almost any wound, fortifying your strength or speed, never get tired, make yourself more skilled, and sucking the very life from your enemies.
Actually good point Chaos. I completely forgot restoration. I guess it's still only my second preference though because Alteration would still be more useful in my opinion.
But seriously, I hate unlocking my locker with those annoying combination locks, so a lock, unlock combo would be really handy. And water breathing would enable me to do many many cool things.
I think illusion would be my second choice. Mainly because of Charm/Frenzy/Rally/Command, invisibility and being able to see in the dark would be cool.
I forgot to answer my own question in the title post.
I guess I'd probably have enchanting, i suppose it's kind of cheating because it uses all of the different schools, but I'd be able to Imbue objects with all sorts of magical effects. Problem is I'd have to persuade one of you mysticism guys to kill and soul trap stuff for me Also I'd need to find some soul stones.. AND possibly find an enchanting altar if we're playing by Oblivion rules.. OK i take it back, I agree with Chaos, I'd have restoration, then I'd basically be a super hero.
Okay it's getting hard to decide so I'm going to rank them:
1 & 2: Alteration and Mysticism - they'd both be really handy, lock/open, levitation, water walking and water breathing; telekinesis and mark and recall,
3: Illusion - also very handy, charm and chameleon/invisibility in particular
4: Restoration - I personally don't really need it, but it would be nice to have and fortifying myself wouldn't be a bad idea
5: Destruction - can you imagine how cool it would be, sadly not as useful as some of the others i.e. I could live without it
6 & 7: Enchant and Alchemy
8: Conjuration - this would be really cool too, but then again so would all magic so, as it is the least useful outside of pranks, it finds last place
Once I read The Four Suitors of Benitah I decided Restoration was my favourite. It probably has the widest number of useful real world applications. I like the idea of being able to fortify my intelligence at will, or fortify my strength so I could play basketball with boulders.
Illusion for sure, the ability to pretty much manipulate the personality of those around you, have the ability to perfectly control what they percieve about you, paralyze enemies no matter how strong. If there are any Bleach fans, think Sosuke Aizen

Alteration all the way here. I believe it would have very many uses, also it would be fun to use, fancy floating about mid air. Also jump and slowfall combination would be wonderful! I believe that breathing underwater would be very useful for things. Illusion would probably be a close second.

Conjuration for me. Assuming you can learn to summon things permanently later on. I'd have a pet clannfear to chill in my backyard with during nice summer days, Dremora Dark Seducers (I love those crazy Daedric Broads ) - Which I would arm with modern day weapons and equipment along with their usual assortment of spells - to guard my house while I'm away, and Flesh Atronachs as personal bodyguards. Hell, if I could have Conjuration IRL I would be known far and wide for the various flesh atronachs I'd have at my command. I just love those huge [&@%!] that much. lol
No undead, though. I could just imagine the smell now. Yuck!

To be honest I bet if any of us tried conjuration magic in real life (that is if it existed in real life) we'd end up like that Breton in one of the mages guild quests in Morrowind that tried to summon a scamp, but it proceeded to attack him and trash his house.
