born2beagator wrote:and the others? do we bring people back to life who have been dead for a day and are already being put in their graves?
Yes we have, thosuands of pepole where "gone" and then the touch of a human (grnated it may be pounding) brings them back
if not that then shoots can restart hearts
pills can get your blood pumping
we can do it
even to someone who has been dead for 3 days? and what about creating a planet?
oye, I am not even going to get started arguing here, because no one will win.

I'm not arguing with you man!
I'm a Christian to
but give science credit it has done amazing stuff and will continuer to do crazy stuff, as for after three days, i belive the lonest some one has beem dead is a week and brought back by adreanly to the heart
no need to be mad
Also as for creating planets we cant do that yet
but there is no reason why we cant
it dose not mean we are as powerful as god, just that god aloowed it so we can do those stuff

Oh, okay, i thought you were saying that we don't need God becuase can do everything he can. IMO science and religion should go hand in hand. Wasn't getting mad, just wasn't going to start a heated debate. We saw the effects of religion without science and learning (dark ages)

Haha, I can't wait to see what Campings says went wrong this time. What is sad is there were actually people spending their life savings to help this looney.

I'm spiritual, I do the important poojas and Believe in Gods, but at the same time, I don't believe I'll get any sort of influence or Direct Intervention in my life because i do. Everything in my life is still governed by what i do, And i still believe more in Science in that regard.
I'm not strict in my Life either and put limitations on myself because of religion.
I just believe that no god can bind me if there is no proof of his existence. If there was, maybe I would be more inclined to join a religion and start believing, but until then, I'm athiest.
I'm Atheist through and through. Obviously it's impossible to disprove the existence of God. Disproving the existence of a specific god however, such as a Christian or Muslim god, that is a different and much more doable matter.

You may want to be careful about the way you say these things... If you replace the words "much easier" with "easy", then you end up with a post that is very insulting as it implies that Christians are stupid because they fail to realise something that you see as "easy". So yeah, please just be a little more careful. I don't want to see people feeling like they've been insulted in this thread - It's just not helpful.
Copy-pasted from a similar thread on another forum, so if it looks familiar, it is.
I was raised Catholic, and for a time I had faith. In my youth, I didn't pay attention to the problems that I have since recognized; all I heard was the story, and what a fantastic story it was for a young mind! A great man once sacrificed everything for me, and in return for nothing more than faith, I would be granted paradise. But things changed in highschool: frequent bouts of soul crushing depression and thoughts of suicide hit during those three years, and the faith that I thouht would carry me through did nothing. When I would bring these feelings up with family and fellow church goers, I was met with little more than "Pray, and God will watch over you," and it made me furious. These people were supposed to support me in times of strife, and they just wiped their hands clean of me, using Him as an excuse. Thankfully, most of my family saw this lack of support and quickly changed (and turned away from the congregation that had failed us); in the end, they helped me through what I hope were the darkest days of my life, but my faith was shattered.
I went through a brief athiestic stage. I felt that because God had failed me, He didn't exist. Some time later though, I realised that this brought me no comfort. I couldn't bring myself to truly believe that you're gone when you die, and there's nothing beyond and no purpose to what you have now, but neither could I ever trust the teachings of a manmade religion. And so I declared my self agnostic, and have found a surprising level of comfort in the ambiguity it offers.
I'm open to PMs about this by the way, and I don't really mind if you're PC or not, so don't hold your tongue if you want to say something.
Dark Lord wrote:Like I said before, I'm agnostic. I should clarify though...
I hate it when people say Agnostics are closet Atheists. We are not. We neither reject or accept the idea of divine beings. If they do exist, well great for them. Let us live our lives. If they don't exist... well, so what? Let us live our lives. That's really what it's all about.
I'm kinda like this. I'm an agnostic in the way that... I don't know. Really, I don't know if there's a god or if there isn't a god. I can't just say "there is no god" and live by that because I feel like there's more to this world, but I also dislike the idea that there is a being with unlimited power.
So, yeah, I'm an agnostic.
Doin my own, thang, and if you got a problem with that
Then the nina go bang, bang, and I'll be everywhere on the map - but
I rep that West
Even if I was raised in a catholic family, went to a catholic school and did all these rituals, I never could get into religion. I remember feeling bad in not being able to believe as a kid as I never could connect, and the older I grew the more I thought it was all ridiculous. I don't need religion to give me reasons to exist, nor do I find that religion really gives a reason to exist. What reason do they give us? Eternal afterlife? Why? There was never one. That, and I don't see how God answers anything at all, to me, it's just throwing the ball to someone else. "Why does the universe exists, why do we exist?" "God", but I don't view it as an answer, but a cop-out. Why does the universe needs an explanation when God doesn't need one? To me, we're left at the same place. God is the answer for life, but that is only that. It's like all those pseudo-scientists who want to explain how the Earth is flat, but all their theories and such are independent and not connected in any way, answering to only one question. What does God do besides having created us and the Earth? He's the one making the universe's expansion accelerating when everything else can be explained so far? I mean sure, we can't disprove anything, but I could come up with some crazy story that can't be disproved either, so why should I believe this thousands of years old stories? Which were made when humanity had little grasp of the world around. But then, some people believe in scientology and it's not exactly easier to disprove. The only thing religion really brings is a moral compass, and I'd rather make my own.

and may I ask how it is easy to disprove the existence of the Christian or Muslim God? People have been trying to do this for centuries and failed.
you are atheist and that is your choice, but to say it is easy to disprove and entire belief system is rather arrogant, not to mention very insulting to those who believe in it.
and for the atheists who got together to celebrate Camping being wrong, you might want to read some of the things he caused with his false prophecy and have a little more sympathy.

I appoligise, i didn't mean to offend anybody, really! I may have chosen my words poorly, what i meant to say is that there are problems such as contradictions in holy texts, advnaces in scientific theory, etc.. with religions such as christianity and islam. This makes it alot easier to argue against them than against the simple idea of a god non-specific to any religion.
i apologise greatly to anyone i may have insulted, it honestly wasn't my intent.

born2begator's reaction to your previous post serves as a good example of why it's important to "choose your words carefully". And now your most recent post serves as an excellent example of how to handle yourself when you have "chosen the wrong words". As a result of you handling yourself well, we have no argument and this thread will stay open (for now). Good job to you

There are no contradictions in holy texts, time and time again it has been human error (the bible never says heaven is in the clouds)
I'm not Even saying this as a Muslim or a Christian, if your saying they have them you might one to show them to someone (pm)
as many of your "contradictions" are pepole "interpreting" E.X how old the earth is, what angles look like, even what Jesus looks like
and many more
If you feel the need to tell me any of these contradictions in holy texts show me in pm as i Garnette you 100% you have been misinformed
Well obviously Thomas and all of those are not "real", dragons where a big deal back when the infamous book was made
and the "God will let us kill" mind set was big so that explains them all, as they needed a way to get pepole to join
of ocuse we knew these where not true and got rid of them
Just cause i write that Jesus did this dose not mean its true and they where not part of the bible
so i really don't see your point?
Hitller could of rewrote the book to say Jesus hated Jews
wont make it true
@Wolfie, there are contradictions in holy texts. The Koran and the Bible offer opposing views on a few things.
Example: Jesus Christ.
Cristian view: He is the Messiah and Son of God, He is the Redeemer and humanity's savior
Muslim view: He was a prophet and just a man, He is an important prophet, but not as much as Mohammed.
