Agreed, though I didn't have nearly the same amount of sadness. Nothing much happened, the story jumped from being small to being epic in about three seconds. You skip what makes a story epic by making that leap.

I would live in Chorrol, its my favourite town. I would have said Skingrad, but i just don't like the idea of having a paranoid fellow walking around in the streets plotting my death and having an anonymous "Pale Lady" which extracts the blood out of prisoners hanging around...Count Hassildor is fine, since he's a "good vampire". (Although i suspect the "Pale Lady" is extracting the blood for him.) I like Chorrol because of many things. Firstly, the people there seem kind and lively. The dog-lover makes things interesting. Secondly, the Fighter's Guild presence is strong, being sort of its headquarters in Cyrodiil. Thirdly, the Great Oak, where people gather and share news of the day, shows that people there communicate with each other and are quite friendly towards each other. Lastly, having Stendarr protect you is a nice thing, since Stendarr helps the needy, so you can always pray for His mercy in the local Chapel if you're experiencing bad times.
My opinion for the reason behind the less-than-awesome plot for Oblivion is that you're not the hero, like you were in Morrowind. Martin's the hero and you just spend the whole game performing tasks he's delegated to you.

About this, i think that you actually are the hero in Oblivion. You may not be some powerful incarnate of a saint, but you helped Martin in every single aspect to stop Mehrunes Dagon. You did your part as a citizen, you saved Cyrodiil. Without you, news of the last heir would not even have reached Martin, Kvatch would be utterly destroyed, and so would Cyrodiil in the days to come. It is you who helped him to "ascend" into Akatosh's Avatar. In Morrowind, aren't you bossed around by Caius Cosades at the beginning? Actually, the only thing that makes you not seem like the hero is the lore of The Elder Scrolls. If it was you who wore the Amulet of Kings in the end and became Akatosh's fiery avatar and defeated Mehrunes Dagon, you would feel you're a hero wouldn't you? But Bethesda can't turn you into one of the Septims. Imagine having a "Septim" forced into your name. People would criticize Bethesda's aim of freeform roleplay, from your name to your race to your class, even your birthsign. After all, you are hailed by the people of Cyrodiil as the Champion, and Martin isn't there to steal all the fame from you, so its glory and fame to you and fond memories of Martin.

but you're not emporer; heck, you're not even the emporer's friend, I mean, if Martin had survived and you got in trouble he'd just be like: hey buddy! hang on a sec while I sign your imperial pardon for slaughtering half of Skingrad in a drunken rage!

Um, i don't think Martin would make a better Emperor than Jagar Tharn the imposter if he let his friend massacre half of towns without getting even a 1 Septim fine...

i always really liked chorrol, it reminds me of where i live, and the climate surrounding it. Plus the people there are so nice. Probably because its the one city i don't massacre on a regular basis

Of what? What intoxicating substance had you taken that did nothing more than cause you to write a gramatically perfect and only-slightly-wrong post?

Since I haven't actually answered the question in this thread yet, I think I'd go with Chorrol. Lovely place, the only town to have a proper town centre (The Great Oak) and I find the view south across the Imperial Reserve strangely endearing.

I believe his character was drunk during the massacre, not the actual person writing the post.

I'd live in Cheydinhal because I think it's the prettiest town. I'm not into murdering people, or running drugs, but I like the flowers and trees, and also the bridges and architecture...

After rescuing Rythe Lythandas, I noticed that his house has the same floor plan as mine, except he has a room to the right when you enter. Why do I only have a wall there? I feel cheated! The space is definitely there, as you can tell from the outside, and it's directly under where your bedroom is.

Maybe the previous owner was into murder and mayhem, and that's where all the skeletons are.....

kind of a late response, but yes, I was refering to my character at the time of the massacre rather than myself at the time of the reporting thereof.

I think it was because I wandered in there drunk one time and tried to hit on them, but whatever.

Well, put me down for Bravil, dammit.

Yes, you heard me. Bravil. So it smells, big whoop, I'll get used to it. So it's run by a washed-up jock and his skooma-head son, that just means I'll have room to operate. So the sign for the Fighters Guild looks like it was drawn with a decidedly non-magical magic marker, suits me fine.

I love Bravil. I love the seediness & swampiness. I love the houses packed on top of one another. I love jumping from terrace to terrace... it's like a city of fire escapes. Most of all, the people! Where else will you find the poetic eloquence of City-Swimmer? The streetcorner philosophy of Daenelin at The Archer's Paradox? Bravil is a bohemian paradise; I knew I was home the moment I walked through the gates.

Whoever likened Skingrad to Busch Gardens was right on. I don't truck with that jive.

Anvil for sure, nice weather, nice view from the dock, the Dumbarrow Cove. I don't know what I would be. Maybe a Bosmer or a Breton. I'd have a ship and crew! Exploring the unknown secrets of Nirn's oceans, plunding, smuggling, dealing skooma (I wish you could actualy get ''addict'' in TES). The Good life! :D

I'm a beach person, Anvil reminds me of the beasches of Europe

Which makes sense, if Imperials are based on Romans, it makes sense that Cyrodil is reminiscent of Italy.

It's difficult not to be a beach person. I could do with being on one right now! 8)
