Best house to buy
Best house to buy
What's your opinion on the best house available for sale? I already have the Anvil manor. Which one do you recomend be my next purchase?
Hmm
My personal favorite is Skingrad, but it is also quite expensive. If gold is not a factor I would recommend it. If you would like a bargain however, I would suggest Leyawiin. A nice house in a nice city. It is 7000 for the house and a combined 7000 for all of the upgrades. The shack in the Imperial City Waterfront is the cheapest house in the game at 2000 gold, although its one room. It's still nice just to have a little place in the Imperial City though.
The one in Skingrad is nice until you install all the display cases. I mean, the obnoxious vanity of the looks is just too much. I love my small, cozy Cheydinhal house, I just wish it had a cellar. Anvil isn't too bad but I don't want to cut myself off this whole ectoplasm supply
Bravil is a dump, don't touch it.
There once was a Prince named Mehrunes
Whose buttocks sounded sonorous tunes
‘Twas an odiferous song
People sang before long
They had enough of his full crescent moons.

My first char loves Anvil and is very comfortable in that house. She's stinking rich, so she has bought most of the other house too but for the IC shack and Skingrad. After Anvil, she prefers the Bruma house, as she's a Nord, or the Chorrol one. She pays frequent visits to her Frostcrag Spire to enchant stuff, make spells and such. She's a bit tight-fisted with money which is why she got the Anvil manor in the first place. Now she has s
ettled there and is too comfortable to move to Bruma.
My second char is an altogether different person. She's reckless, has no sense at all when it comes to financial planning and she cares about looking good and living in style more than saving gold for a rainy day. As I'm on PC and have access to all sorts of mods I could treat her to the late Agormir's house in Talos District. She wouldn't feel comfortable in the Waterfront shack and a rural home is just not her. Maybe she'll buy the Skingrad house later on when she has more money. Unless she decides to spend is all at Palonyria's shop in IC.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. The Anvil house, so far, is my favorite. I like the town and I like the house. I also bought the Imperial City place, which I use extensively when I'm in that area. There aren't a lot of containers there, but I use one for weapons and armor that I want to keep and another for storing stuff that I want to sell when I'm there at night and getting ready to head off on another adventure. You're basically paying for location, since it's certainly not attractive.
The Choroll house is about as nice as the Anvil one, but without a cool basement and balcony. It also makes a good home base for exploring the mountains to the north and west, and there's some cool stuff to do up there.
Skingrad isn't my kind of town. I never liked it and I really only ever go there because it's in between the Imperial City and Anvil.
Cheydinhal and Leyawiin are both nice towns and I'm thinking of picking up houses in one or both places.
I found that by around level 15, the loot that gets dropped by weapon-using monsters is so good that a house pays for itself pretty quickly, since I can clear out a ruin or two and use the house as a staging area. When I am carrying too much stuff and it's nighttime, I drop all the things I'm not going to use on the next expedition in my house and sell it all when the stores are open.
If you're going to live out in the boonies, I'd work on my merchantile skill whenever I could. Once you hit a certain level of merchantile, stores will buy just about any kind of crap you want to sell them.

Hmm
The Anvil merchants are great too. A smith with 1200 gold, a general trader who is a novice (or close), in mercantile, and a higher ranking fence if your in the thieves guild.
