Luciana Galena's key and the chest

I pickpocketed the key from Luciana Galena (Bravil fence), but it won't open her chest. Did this get patched and is not possible anymore, or just something else?

It's probably just a key to her house.

She's supposed to have a key to the chest too. Ahwell.

Quite likely it's a "merchant's inventory" chest. Just like the cupboard in the corner in Gondolas' shop in Leyawin. Normally if you sold lots and lots of items to the shopkeeper, they would get overencumbered and you'd easily exploit it. The game deals with it through "merchant's chests", containers where all the items bought and most for sale is stored. These are traditionally locked with non-pickable lock and no key exists, or (more commonly) are located just under the floor of the shop, out of reach and view, simply "under ground". Quite likely if you manage to open it (say, through 'unlock' console command) you'll find the shop inventory contents there.

aha. well, I won't use console commands as that would be cheating for me. if there was some key to steal on the other hand I just like to steal stuff really.

If there is a key. The "merchant containers" are meant to be developer tools, never accessible by the player. The very fact that they are in clear view and not in some area beyond the map is an exception. I'd be really surprised if any of them was unlockable without cheats.
